"Damn it!"
The sudden shout and sound of objects being broken silenced the entire room as Taehyung glanced towards Jungkook's office. He could see the other pacing around and throwing various objects all over the place, quickly creating a mess. Shit. Was Taehyung's first thought as he turned his attention back to his phone call.
"Hey, let me call you back, I have a bit of a situation here. Yeah, yeah. Call me if anything changes okay?" Taehyung said, waiting before he hung up his phone and stood.
Turning, he glanced around at the curious eyes of the other officers and detectives and gave a nervous smile.
"Now, now. Let's not make it worse by staring. Get back to work, we have a lot of ground to cover." Taehyung said, clapping his hands together and luckily getting everyone back into the workflow.
Letting out a sigh, he glanced back towards Jungkook's office before making his way over. Giving a quick knock and not waiting for an answer, he opened the door. His eyes widened as he saw the number Jungkook did on his office, and he swallowed. Stepping in and quickly closing the door before anyone else could see as he settled his gaze on a clearly stressed out Jungkook.
"Hey big guy, what the hell happened?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook was sitting in his chair, head in his hands as he let out soft mutters and growls that almost sounded like to Taehyung to be curses on someone's existence. When Jungkook heard his best friend, he slightly lifted his head as his gaze fell on Taehyung. Taehyung wouldn't deny the cold, sharpness of the other Alpha's gaze did rattle him somewhat.
"Jungkook?" Taehyung called.
"What?" Jungkook shot back, his voice full of venom as he buried his head back into his hands.
"What? What the hell is going on? Why are you going Hulk on your office furniture?" Taehyung asked, kneeling down to start picking up some of the most likely important documents.
There was a moment of silence before Jungkook let out the heaviest sigh that Taehyung had ever heard in his life before he decided to speak.
"It is that damned lawyer." Jungkook said, lifting his head again as he glared at the wall in front of him.
"Lawyer?" Taehyung asked, glancing up at the other.
"Kim Namjoon." Jungkook said.
"Oh." Taehyung said, letting out a sigh himself this time.
Well, that explained a lot. Taehyung stood up, hugging the gathered stack of papers against his chest as he frowned.
"Let me guess, the feds are trying to take over?" Taehyung asked.
"He didn't say it directly, but I can read in between the lines. Everyone is desperate to catch this fucker Valentine, but the problem is, instead of fucking working together, we just want to get in each other's way!" Jungkook said, standing up as he punched the wall and ignoring the spike of pain that shot up his arm from his knuckles.
Taehyung stared at him for a moment before he lowered his eyes.
"He wants to use Jimin to lure out Valentine, doesn't he?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook stood in place, keeping his back to Taehyung but the growl and spicy spike in Jungkook's scent told him that he was right on target. Taehyung set the papers down, pushing a hand against his head as he shook it.
"Doesn't surprise me, they do this sort of thing all the time. I am sure if we fight it, we will lose, the greater good and sacrifice of one versus the many and all that." Taehyung said, turning as he leaned against Jungkook's desk.
"I know." Jungkook said.
"So, what is our plan then?" Taehyung asked, crossing his arms as he stared forward through the windows of Jungkook's office.
Jungkook stood up straight, shaking his hand as he turned and sat back down in his chair with a bit of a thud as he leaned back and stared up at the ceiling.
"I don't fucking know. I want to catch Valentine as much as the next guy, but not this way. Not at the risk of Jimin and our pup's life." Jungkook said.
Taehyung glanced down, his face taking on a serious expression as he thought. It was then that a thought popped into his head and his eyes widened.
"Why don't we beat them to the punch then?" Taehyung said, turning to look back at Jungkook.
Jungkook's brows furrowed, glancing at Taehyung with a questioning expression.
"What do you mean?" Jungkook asked.
Taehyung stood up, turning on his heel as he spread out his arms and grinned like a mad scientist who had finally had a breakthrough.
"Think about it Kook! Valentine has been gone for a long time and with his biggest lackeys tucked away in a federal prison, the streets have been free game for the most part. I mean, we have done a great job of cleaning up, but we both know it isn't that easy or simple." Taehyung said, but the still confused look from Jungkook urged him to continue. "What if we get a bigger fish than Jimin to lure out Valentine."
"A bigger fish...?" Jungkook asked as Taehyung nodded.
"Someone who hates the idea of Valentine being back even more than we do." Taehyung said as he waved his finger in the air to emphasize this point.
Jungkook's eyes slowly narrowed as he frowned.
"You want me to make a deal with another bad guy, just to deal with Valentine?" Jungkook asked.
"Well, I mean, yeah? In this sort of situation, we might not have a better option." Taehyung said, letting out a sigh as he placed his hands on his hips. "I don't like the idea either Kook but think about it."
"I would be just like the leaders that came before me Tae. Making deals with devils just to get what they want." Jungkook said.
"It is different." Taehyung said.
"How is it different?" Jungkook said, glancing down some.
"Because you are different. You won't be corrupted by anyone, but eventually we do need to settle some kind of truce with the bad guys. As much as I would love for them to all poof and disappear, we would be out of work in the long run. I don't see a problem making the right deals with the ones that suit our needs." Taehyung said.
Jungkook slowly glanced back up at Taehyung.
"...you might be right." Jungkook said, his mind wandering to the thought of Jimin and his pup having protection from Valentine mattered more to him than anyone or anything.
"We can do this right Kook." Taehyung said.
"There is nothing right about working with criminals. It is our job to bring justice to the city, to protect the citizens, not make deals with the Devils that suck the life out of it." Jungkook said, but his tone suggested he was on board as he walked around his desk.
"That's why, we make the terms clear. They help us get rid of Valentine and we might look the other way on some of their affairs, something like that." Taehyung said.
"No. The only deal they get, is I don't bust their asses for all the illegal shit they do, until they leave me no choice." Jungkook said.
Taehyung let out a sigh.
"Well, we might have to offer a little more than that Kook." Taehyung said, tilting his head as he eyed the other with a half frown.
"We'll see. Did you have someone in mind?" Jungkook asked.
Taehyung nodded, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his phone as he opened up an application and tapped on a profile as he showed Jungkook his phone. Jungkook glanced at the screen and his eyes slowly widened before he looked at Taehyung like he was crazy.
"No." Jungkook said.
"Oh, come on Kook! He is the best chance we have!" Taehyung said, watching as the other turned around to walk away but he grabbed his wrist to stop him.
"I said fucking no, Anyone but him." Jungkook growled out.
"No one else can go toe to toe with Valentine!" Taehyung said, "Think about Jimin and – "
"Don't." Jungkook snarled, yanking his wrist free as he turned and glared a warning at Taehyung who sighed and pouted back at him.
"Kook, you have to put your personal feelings aside." Taehyung said.
Jungkook was quiet, glancing forward and down before his jaw visible tightened and he closed his eyes as he curled his hands into tight fists.
"Fine, make the fucking call. But if he pisses me off, I will put a bullet between his eyes without a second thought." Jungkook said.
Taehyung sighed in relief before he nodded, quickly leaving Jungkook's office before the other decided to change his mind.
Later that night...
Jungkook stood with Taehyung by their unmarked car in the empty lot of an abandoned factory. Jungkook had his hands buried in the pockets of his coat as he stared forward, getting annoyed already because it was a half hour past the time that they agreed on. Taehyung was about to say something when the sound of a car approaching caught both of their attention. The black SUV pulled up, the lights somewhat blinding for a moment before they cut off. Jungkook stood up straight, his eyes narrowed as the doors opened. Three rather large Alphas got out, clearly the muscle meant to protect their boss. The fourth person that stepped out of the car though was the bane of Jungkook's existence. The pretty dark-haired male walked around the SUV, his black boots crunching gravel under them as he came into view. A slight smirk crossed thin, red glossed lips as sharp eyes fell on Jungkook and Taehyung. The male stopped in front of them, flicking his wrist and opening a hand fan in front of his face, hiding that annoying smirk that Jungkook just wanted to punch off.
"Well, well. I thought someone might be pranking me when they told me, the white knight, Jeon Jungkook, the head of Seoul police wanted to speak with little old me." The male said, his voice silky smooth and most would probably bend over for this guy easily.
Taehyung let out a nervous laugh.
"Nope, not a prank." Taehyung said, rubbing the side of his neck. "Thanks for coming."
The male briefly glanced at Taehyung before he flicked his gaze back to Jungkook and gave the Alpha a once over.
"The pleasure is all mine." The male said.
Jungkook made a disgusted face, but he knew there was no turning back now. If there truly was a devil in the city of Seoul, it was the man before him – Lee Taemin.
