What is she? Lucas thought as he watched in the shadows as the girl somehow convinced the paramedics that she was the dead man's guardian. He was tempted to run and join the scene as well but if his father found out that he was involved with the death of a man with bite marks, he would be in big trouble.
Lucas was about to walk away when he he was hit with another smell.
Death.
Lucas turned back to see that the girl and dead man were gone, the ambulance driving away. In their place was another man, where the smell of death was coming from.
"What the-"
"Don't."
Lucas felt someone join his side and realized who it was. "Kun-ge."
"Hi Lucas." Kun said, grabbing onto Lucas's arm and giving it a tug. "You should get going. Your father would be worried if you weren't home when he woke up."
"But the people." Lucas said, motioning to the crash site but to his surprise, the road that had been previously been blocked was now empty, cars and trucks passing by as if it were a regular day.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Kun said, but Lucas knew he was lying.
Did he spell it?
"Lucas, if you don't hurry up, I'm going to have to tell him myself." Kun said sternly.
Lucas ripped his arm out of Kun's grip, angered at the tricks that were clearly being played on him.
"There's no need. I'll go." Lucas said, walking away from the warlock and towards his own home.
After a few steps, Lucas decided to look back but as expected, Kun was gone and not a trace of his smell was in the air either. He couldn't help but shake his head, unable to wrap his thoughts around the events of that morning.
Who and what was that girl?
...
"Congratulations." Ten snickered, a smirk on his face as him and Evie stared at the man sprawled on the floor of their apartment.
It had been a huge ordeal just to compel all the humans that the man was just fine even though he had no pulse and Evie did not enjoy it one bit. Thankfully, Ten must have realized what had happened and quickly arrived, and for once, Evie was glad that the older vampire was there for her.
"This isn't funny, Ten." Evie spat back, feeling frustrated. "He had my blood."
"I know." Ten chuckled, sitting on the couch. "This is going to be so much fun."
"For you." Evie rolled her eyes as she stood up, fiddling with her ring. "When he wakes up in a few minutes, it'll be anything but fun for me."
"Oh come on, Evie. Relax a little." Ten said, his body sinking into the cushions. "It's the first time you're turning someone, enjoy it."
"Turning a human into a vampire isn't a good thing." Evie argued, glaring at her mentor. "I just stripped him from whatever life he had before."
Ten sighed, standing up from the couch. Evie watched as he gave the man on the floor a light kick, shaking the man's leg.
"Look at the clothes he's wearing, Evie. He's not a man of wealth. The jacket he's wearing is cheap. He probably lived alone in an apartment or something." Ten said before kneeling down. He slipped a hand into the pocket of the man's pants, pulling out his wallet. "Here, take a look for yourself."
Ten tossed the wallet and Evie caught it, carefully feeling the fabric before opening it. She gulped as she realized how thin it was, only a few cash bills and cards inside it.
"Dong Sicheng." Evie said, just as the man in front of them begin to shift.
"I haven't been called that in a while." The man, or Sicheng, mumbled, rubbing his eyes. "Where am I?"
Evie didn't want to say anything but Ten gave her a nudge so she had no choice. "Guess."
"All I remember is getting hit by a car after I ran away from..." Sicheng's voice trailed off before they suddenly widened as he realized who was standing in over him. "You!"
Evie sighed as Sicheng got up and immediately moved back but ended up in the sunlight. The smell of flesh burning filled the room and Sicheng returned back to the shadows, staring at Evie.
"You bit me! And then I passed out. When I woke up, you were there and I ran but got hit by a truck..."
Sicheng looked down at his hand which was already beginning to heal on it's own before turning back at Evie.
"What am I?"
Evie glanced over at Ten. "Do I have to?"
"No but I'm not going to do it." Ten replied from the couch.
"At least one of us is having fun." Evie mumbled before stepping towards Sicheng. "You're a vampire."
"A what?" Sicheng exclaimed in disbelief.
"A vampire." Evie reiterated, hoping to never have to explain all this again. "At least in the transition of being one."
"That doesn't make sense!" Sicheng exclaimed, already on the brink of giving a headache. "Vampires don't exist."
"Oh, I assure you they do." Evie said, giving Sicheng a poke before turning towards Ten. "Shouldn't he be hungry by now?"
As if on cue, the three vampires froze as they heard footsteps from outside in the halls, all thinking the same thing. A human.
Sicheng's face changed as his fangs appeared and eyes turned red, his desire for blood great enough for him to dash to the door.
As an older vampire, Evie was faster, standing in front of him and holding his shoulders. "No, you need to control yourself."
"I'm starving." Sicheng growled, trying to get out of Evie's grip but her strength gave her a huge advantage.
Evie notice Ten get up from his seat, casually walking towards them. "It's fine, just let him."
"Let him? He's going to kill whoever's on the other side of the door!" Evie argued, hoping the poor human was already long gone.
Ten ignored her, heading towards the door and opening it.
"Yah Ten!" Evie yelled out but to her surprise, behind it stood two people.
One of them was male who was definitely younger than Evie, around the age when she had turned. He wore casual clothes like a typical college student, but her eyes went to the thing he was grabbing.
Evie didn't notice at first, thinking it was just a luggage bag but the image began to fade into the figure of a person.
The person he was holding was clearly a convict, still dressed in his prison clothes. The convict was shivering but was unable to move, getting dragged in by the younger male.
"Right on time. Good job, Yangyang." Ten said, a smile on his face.
"Getting pass security was a pain, I hope you know that." Yangyang replied, entering as Ten closed the door behind him. He shoved the male towards Evie and Sicheng. "Let him have at it. This person's on life sentence anyways, he won't be missed."
Evie was hesistant but let go of Sicheng regardless. The second he was free, Sicheng ran towards the convict, not a moment of hesitation as he dug his fangs into the neck.
"Relax Evie." Ten said, patting her shoulder. Evie immediately pushed his hand off, heading to her room without another word.
