Rose's P.O.V
I looked at the three dresses lying on my bed carefully. I don't know why but I want to look my best. It's stupid, me trying to impress him.
I informed them about this party in yesterday's report. I had to but I didn't wanted to. I don't know what I want anymore.
All three dresses were beautiful definitely expensive too. I finally decided on the second one. It was a grey tulle gown. The sequins on the bodice were shining brightly. It also had a slit on the right leg.
Placing the other two gowns in their bags neatly, I started getting ready. I am no expert in doing my make up or hair, so I asked for a phone to access YouTube. Alex gave me one without thinking twice which made me feel guilty again. Why does he trust me so much? He shouldn't.
Following the detailed video step by step, I was done in about two hours. I had to redo it several times because I always ended up putting something extra or less.
I put on my dress with great difficulty. It's no joke, trying to wear a dress without any help. I looked at the time and quickly put on my heels.
I don't even want to know how much he spent on everything. Everything seemed to be from one luxury brand or another.
I sat down on the bed waiting for him. He told me he will come get me from my room and I shouldn't leave it. I watched some random videos on the phone while waiting.
After about fifteen minutes, there was a knock on the door. He entered and I swear I lost my breath for a second there.
He was looking gorgeous in a fitted black tux. He smiled once his gaze landed on me and I smiled back.
"You look-" He said as his eyes travelled all the way from my head to toe. "Spectacular."
My face flushed, "You look great too."
"Not more than you but thanks." He held up his hand and I took it. The warmth of his hand seeped into mine.
A car was waiting for us outside and he opened the door for me. He also helped me inside because it was very difficult to get in with a dress. Everything is difficult with a dress, isn't it?
We didn't talk at all in the car. I was too busy thinking. Now that all the evidence is sent, they could be preparing for an attack. I have no knowledge of it whatsoever.
I didn't realise when we reached but he was standing infront of me opening my door. I held his hand and walked with him to the entrance.
There were several bodyguards all over the venue. And many people wearing tuxes and dresses were entering.
We also went inside and I was astonished. The decorations were so beautiful it looked like a castle. Some people were dancing in the middle, waiters were walking around with drinks and snacks.
People were talking, laughing overall having a great time. Alex greeted several people walking in while holding my hand tightly.
He didn't introduce me to anyone and I was grateful for that. I had no idea what I am to him. And I guess he doesn't either. It's a complicated relationship- I am not sure if we even have a relationship.
After mingling around for a bit, we were finally left alone. I was looking around, everyone seemed to be happy. Or they are great at acting.
"May I have this dance?" Alex suddenly asked making me look at him.
"Dance?" I asked not sure whether I heard it correctly or it was my imagination playing tricks on me.
"Dance. Let's dance." He said grabbing my hand and walking towards the middle.
"I don't know how to dance." I whispered as we stood in between all the couples dancing.
"That's okay, just follow my lead." He said placing my hand on his shoulder.
We gently swayed to the music. His gaze was locked on me and I couldn't help but look into his eyes.
I don't want to sound cliche but it seemed like everything around us blurred. Like we were the only ones there.
"Rose I want to tell you something." He said.
"What is it?" I asked suddenly nervous. Did he find out the truth?
"I don't know if this is the right time or place to say this but if I don't say it now I don't think I ever will."
I smiled lightly, "Tell me."
"I hope this doesn't make things awkward between us. When you saved my life that night, I felt grateful to you. I was suprised to see someone, a complete stranger at that, care for me." He cleared his throat.
"When I saw you tied up to that chair I felt angry and sad that it was my fault you were hurt. I wanted to protect you, save you like you did to me."
My heart was beating loudly and my throat felt dry. I gulped trying to calm myself.
"When I told you about my past I felt free for the first time in years. The time I spend with you I feel happy. What I am trying to day I guess is that-"
I bit my lips as he smiled at me.
"I- I love you. I really do. And I understand if you don't feel the same way. I am not pressuring you in any way. I just wanted you to know my feelings." He rambled on.
I opened my mouth to say something but it was as if all the words in the world have disappeared. "Alex I-"
Gunshots were fired and the whole venue turned frenzy. People were running around and voices were heard.
Alex grabbed my hand tightly, "Stay with me." He said looking at me and walking towards the door.
Jack came running towards us. He had his gun held tightly in his hand and he handed one to Alex.
"What's happening?" Alex asked.
"The police are here. We are surrounded. I am trying to find another exit. You should hide till then." He said looking around continuosly.
Alex nodded, "Be careful." He dragged me to a room in one corner. "This is the restroom for guests." He said as he locked it from the inside.
We breathed heavily. It's happening. He will find out the truth and hate me. The confession from before will be forgotten and so will his feelings for me.
A part of me wants this to never happen. It wants to run away with him and forgot everything. But the other part, the realistic one knows that it's not possible.
The voices from outside were slowly getting low and then they stopped completely.
"Where are you Mr.Alexander? Come out now." I heard a voice and I immediately recognised it.
"There is no point in hiding. I know you are here and I will get you. So it's better if you come out on your own." He said in a mocking tone.
Alex looked at me, "It's okay. Don't worry." He said and it brought tears to my eyes. Why is he worried about me? He is making this too difficult.
I took a shaky breath and opened the lock. He looked at me suprised. "What are you doing?" He whispered holding my hand over the handle.
"Please." I whispered shakily and opened the door.
"There you are." I could hear the smirk in his voice as he walked towards us.
"Rose my old friend." He said smiling.
Alex looked at me, a lot of emotions on his face. But I couldn't answer any of his questions, I didn't wanted to.
"Mr.Alex don't worry, I will clear all your confusion. Ask away." He said laughing.
"Kyle, that's enough." I said.
"Why? The fun just started." He said pouting and then laughed again.
"What is going on?" Alex said raising his gun.
"It's better for you to put that down." Kyle said holding up his gun too and the officers followed suit.
"Let's just get this over with. Arrest him." I said not wanting to go through any of this.
"Rose." Alex said and I looked at him. "What's happening?"
"I- I can't explain it." I said. I could very easily but I didn't wanted to.
"Ofcourse you can, Rose. It's very simple you see, Alex. Rose here is my partner. A detective. And she betrayed you." He said as if reading a children's fairy tale.
Alex looked at me and I could see the emotions varying in his eyes, "Is this true?"
"It is true." Kyle said clearly enjoying this.
"I want to hear it from you. Is it true?" He was almost shouting by now.
"It is. Everything he said is true." I said.
"So- everything was planned. You saving me that night, was all planned?" He asked.
I nodded. I didn't wanted to look at him anymore. I knew I would cry if I looked into those eyes.
He laughed. "Wow, I- I can't believe I fell for it. Amazing! You are an amazing actress, great job!" He said.
"Was it fun? Seeing me getting all vulnerable infront of you?" He asked.
I shook my head. "It wasn't like that." I choked out.
"Was it fun when I believed everything you said? When I bared my soul infront of you?"
I shook my head.
Kyle clicked his tongue. "Enough of this drama. Get him on his knees."
The officers gathered around him and tried getting him on his knees. He fought and fought but they came prepared.
They soon empowered him and Kyle stood infront of him. But instead of taking out handcuffs, he held up his gun.
"What are you doing?" I asked hurriedly.
"What do you think?" He said.
"The mission was to capture him." I said.
"Don't be so naive Rose. It changed. The mission is to kill him on spot." He looked at me with calculative eyes. "On second thought why don't you do it?"
"What?" I asked.
He raised his eyebrows. "Why? Is there a problem? Did you fall in love?"
I gulped. "I- I don't want to."
"Do it." He said his eyes daring me to say no. I know I can't say no, it would be questioning and I might be considered an accessory for the crimes.
I took the gun from his hands and held it up. Alex raised his head to look at me. His eyes held so much pain I had to look away.
"I am sorry, Alex. I really am. What you said earlier I don't know if you meant it but I- I feel the same way. It's shameless of me to say this now but I love you too." I whispered to him hoping the others can't hear me.
He smiled, I don't know if it was a genuine smile or he was hating me. I looked at him one last time and closed my eyes.
The sound of the gunshot echoed through the venue and I didn't dare to open my eyes. I could hear Kyle laughing somewhere in the background but it was fading.
The beating of my heart was too loud for me to hear anything else properly. I did it. I completed the mission.
I killed him.
