"I mean, the Vessel just lit up for both of you the moment you touched it," Aisha said astonishingly. She'd been talking about the class nonstop and Selene could sense a hint of jealousy coming off her immediately. The three were in the noisy cafeteria to grab some lunch during their free hour and Selene shrugged in a disinterested manner.
She never really liked talking about her powers after many had judged its invasive characteristics over the years. "Our magic works differently from other physical magic," Selene said and grabbed a tray of food.
"My magic's pretty much always on. Makes crowded spaces a nightmare," Musa said passively and flashed her eyes to show what she meant. "Doris is in physical pain. That kid?" She nodded towards a first-year specialist. "Scared and stressed,
like a bunny when the hawks circle."
Selene frowned at Musa as she continued to list out other's emotions like a fun game. She could relate to how awful people's emotions could feel because it was extremely overwhelming. Aisha might find it 'awesome and cool!', but Selene often found herself confused about what her true emotions actually were. However, her frustrations would never justify outright announcing other's private thoughts and emotions.
Before Musa could question the random spike of anger coming from Selene, she'd felt everything calm down and silence. Her eyes flashed a deep purple and she began to look around for the source of comfort.
Selene had felt Sam's aura, much like Musa and smiled brightly at the serenity he brings her. At the same time, the two mind fairies looked up at the boy who walked down the stairs.
Feeling their gaze, Sam looked over and waved at Selene before walking over to a table with his friends. Meet me at our place after lunch? She blushed at his question and looked at him again, meeting his gaze. Quickly nodding, she rushed away to a table where Bloom and Terra were already sat eating.
"What just happened?" Aisha asked, confused by the two girls' behaviours. The question brings Musa, who continued to stare after Sam, out of her daze.
"I'm not entirely sure." Casually, they followed after Selene to sit with the rest of their group in the crowded cafeteria.
Aisha, seeing Bloom's struggle, wanted to help the girl out and, without a moment of hesitation, went straight into planning out what to do. "So here's what we should do. Maybe we can make a list of emotional triggers..."
Bloom grew nervous hearing how eager her roommate was to jump in and help her. Nervously looking around, still embarrassed about what happened in class, she interrupted Aisha, "um, I appreciate what you're doing, but I can figure this out on my own."
"I'm sure. I just think you might be in your head about the whole changeling stuff and overthinking." She said concerningly.
At how casual she had mentioned the word 'changeling', Bloom immediate sat up straight and frowned. "So, everyone knows?" Bloom sadly mumbled up, hurt by how Aisha had decided to tell everyone her secret. A secret she only just found out herself.
"Is that why you freaked out at the Vessel? That makes more sense." Terra cut into the conversation, "That's gonna be the easiest assignment we'll have." Selene glared at the blunt girl and gave her a look to ask 'why are you saying this?' "And I'm making it worse, aren't I?" she trailed off with her voice lowering.
Before an awkward tension could settle in the atmosphere, Stella walked up to them with Sky in tow and laid a map down onto the table. "So, we have a plan to get my ring back?"
"what's this?" Selene looked at it, confused.
"Oh, it's Alfea!" Terra gushed excitedly and launched into a story of her childhood.
'I can hear Terra from all the way over here,' Sam thought to her.
'Don't be mean,' Selene scolded him teasingly and grinned at how shocked he was that he just heard her. 'Where are you anyways?'
'Did you just speak into my mind?'
'Yep.'
'Holy Shit...'
'Close your mouth, sweetie, or you'll catch flies.'
'You can't even see me. I'm behind the wall!'
Selene giggled at him lightly causing the group around her to glance at her, bewildered, but she paid no mind to the chatter around her.
"I think she's finally lost it," Stella muttered while frowning at her roommate. She then glanced over at Sky, who'd gone to talk to Bloom, and glared at them. "Um, Sky? Where do you think they'll keep it?" She asked to try to catch his attention.
Selene, still in her own little world, quickly ate her food. She was excited to go meet up with Sam and spend some time with him. She knew she couldn't contribute to getting the ring back anyways unless they wanted to carry an unconscious fairy around.
'I'll be sitting at the bench waiting.'
'See you in a bit.'
"Why do you look so happy?" Terra whispered to her while slowly eating her lunch.
"No reason, Ter," Selene smiled at her friend before finishing her last bite. "I'm off to meet a friend, guys. See you in class," she said while standing up.
"Oi, it's not my brother, is it?"
Hearing Terra's question, she simply smiled and blushed. Giving her a teasing wink, Selene stood and left the 5 girls.
