two months later
I have been living at the avengers compound for two months now and everyone seemed to be happy I was around, well almost everyone. Wanda, Pietro and I had become close since they were only a year older then me and insisted of taking me under their wing. Sam and Rhodey weren't here half the time since they have jobs and other commitments but would come back for a few days every week. Thor and Loki warmed up to me almost immediately and both had referred to me by calling me little sister over the last month, they seemed to really like me and were protective if Tony made fun of me. Tony and Bruce would often let me help in the lab and teach me things like first aid and hacking systems. Steve was like the mother hen of the group, he always looked out for everyone and always tried to included me in things. Bucky doesn't really talk to me much, he says hellos and will answer a question but he doesn't talk to everyone much, Steve told me not to take it personally but its not hard to realize that he try's to stay away from me and didn't like me. I had somehow also become the go to person when people had problems and wanted someone to listen to, I'm happy they feel they can talk to me but no one has really allowed me to talk to them so I keep it bottled up and plaster a smile on my face.
I had taken over as the cook for the team, cooking is what I found I was good at and enjoyed when dad had first brought me home. On tonight's menu was a leg of lamb with roast carrots, pumpkin, potatoes, peas, corn and broccoli served with little dinner rolls and gravy.
"Friday, can you please tell everyone dinner is ready?" I asked.
Yes miss Zara.
Within minutes the dining table was full of food and set, the others began pouring into the room and sat down to eat.
"Hey songbird, we are all going on a mission tonight except Bucky, and we wont be back for at least 3 days. Are you gonna be okay?" he asked me from across the table.
"Yeah ill be fine, don't worry." I smiled a reassuring smile. After dinner the team went and packed for the mission, I was left in the kitchen washing the dishes.
"Do you need help" a voice asked, I turned and saw Bucky standing near the kitchen island looking at his feet.
"Oh um sure could you dry and put them away?"
He nodded and picked up a tea towel, we cleaned in awkward silence. The team came and said their goodbyes to us and left on the Quinjet, once the dishes were done I asked Bucky if he wanted to watch a movie or something.
"Sure what should we watch?" he asked.
"Im not sure I have only watched a few movies over the last few years, why don't you pick?" I tell him.
He nods and scans the movie shelf, he finally decides on a movie called the hunger games. I made us some popcorn and we settled on the couch, the first movie was good so Bucky started the second movie. I started to dose off during the second movie and soon I was asleep.
Bucky's pov
Zara had fallen asleep during the movie, she looked so peaceful as she slept. When the movie finished I gently lifted her into my arms and carried her back to her room. On the way there she shifted in my arms and pressed herself into my chest, my stomach fluttered and my heart was beating hard. I have never had this reaction towards anyone before, it was confusing too, when I look down at Zara I feel a sense of happiness around her.
I carefully opened her bedroom door and pulled back her covers, I slipped her on the bed, removed her boots and pulled the covers over her. She sighed in her sleep as I silently shut her door.
Zara's pov
I awoke to screaming through the halls, I threw off my covers and ran into the hall, another scream sounded from Bucky's room and I frantically knocked on the door.
"Bucky! Are you okay?!" I called but was only answered with more screaming. I opened the door and found Bucky thrashing on his bed, he must have been having a nightmare. I quickly made my over to his bed and tried to shake him awake.
"Bucky! Wake up, your having a nightmare, wake up!" I semi yelled to him.
He bolted up into a sitting position and was breathing heavily. I held his hand and rubbed the top of his hand with my thumb, trying to calm him.
"Hey it's okay, your okay" I cooed at him.
"Zara?" he said softly.
"Yes its me, I'm right here Buck."
He pulled me into his lap and held me in a hug with his head on my shoulder, I felt his silent tears and sobs on my back. I rubbed his back as I held him and let him cry, he needed this comfort and I was more then happy to give it. That's when I realized I had feelings for him, I cared about him in a way I had never had for anyone else before. We stayed holding each other for a long time, he eventually pulled away.
"I'm sorry" he whispered. I held his hand again.
"Don't be sorry Bucky, I'm just glad I could help you"
I looked at the time then back to him,
"Try and get some rest okay?" I stood to leave when I felt him reach his hand to mine and held it.
"Can you stay? Please?" he asked hesitantly.
"Of course Bucky"
I laid in his bed and held his head to my chest, I ran my fingers through his hair calming him. He was still slightly shaking so I sang him a song.

When I finished I could softly feel his breaths as he slept, still holding on to me. I smiled knowing I helped him fall asleep and hopefully he wont have another nightmare tonight. I felt myself drift slowly off to sleep, his warmth and heat warming me and pulling me into a dreamless lumber.
