"Here we are" Legoshi tells me than proceeds to disappear.
Legoshi...come back. I don't know how to act with this Louis character.
"...."
"...."
It was quiet. Sheila and I didn't know how to do this. Hmm, how do we do this? I know we should knock first and wait to hear if he's in there. If not, than we look elsewhere. If so, than we can enter. Wait...is Louis a herbivore or carnivore? Crap, I didn't ask. I should have ask! How am I going to approach this? How I always do? Of course! How else would I approach this?
'A predator never bows to prey!'
Yup, there's sweet old mother's teachings. If she found out I was thinking of bowing to a herbivore...oh boy. She would be furious! Probably transfer me out of school and back into homeschooling to teach me of my actions.
I go to knock on the door but I hesitate....maybe I should..no! Never hesitate! And with that final thought....I knock on the door.
Knock knock
"...."
"...."
It was silent for a moment...there was no noise made. Just nothing but silence...until...
"Come in." A deep voice invites us in...please be a carnivore.
We enter the room with Sheila going first...I know I should go in first but I rather not. I don't know who this animal is so I would rather sacrifice someone first...okay...wait! When did you get here!
When you were remembering your mother's lecture.
Oh yeah. I forgot that mother's lecture was bored into you.
More like you but okay.
Can you go away now? I'm facing a Club Officer.
Fine. But only because I'm not needed at the moment!
And then she was gone. I need to work on that but I'll get to it when I get to it. Now where was I? Ah yes! Meeting Louis! It also seems I missed most of the conversation but it's not directed at me. Wait a minute...he's a deer! A herbivore? This is bad....never mind. It doesn't matter!
I'm still going to be the same old Valerie and I'm not going to change who I am, just so I can fit in with a bunch of push overs....not that Legoshi is one. He's a soft soul and I hope he learns to at least toughen up a little so he won't be walked all over...or taken advantage of.
"Sheila, it seems like you were invited to be the part of the dance team considering your skills and experience from your work area."
Work area? Why did that sound like he knew something no one knew...it also looked like Shiela knew what he was talking about since she flinched at the directed words. What is she hiding? Should I find out? I mean she is my roommate...but it's not any of my business and if she wanted me to know, she would tell me. I should not go sniffing in any business unless it includes me.
"The dance team?" She asked.
"Of course. What other team requirements meet your skills and experience?" He asked as he raised a brow.
"Ah...of course." She says as she looks down..to which annoyed him. I don't know why he looks annoyed by that action but it doesn't matter since the conversation is soon over.
"If that's all you wanted to know than you may leave and start as soon as you can." He dismisses her. Looks like she was approved by him.
"Okay." She says as she leaves. Huh, that leaves us alone. A deer and a tiger...a predator and a prey. Ack! No! Stop! These instincts are starting to get harder to control. I need to find something stronger to ground myself. Now to greet myself.
"Hello, I am-"
"Valerie. Yes, I already know who you are." He states as he looks me in the eye. That is one firm stare....it's almost strong enough to make others back down....others but not me. I stare back.
"Ah...I see. So, what team was I invited for?" I ask. I am curious on why I'm here.
"...."
"...."
It was quiet. Really quiet. Why is he silent? I asked a simple question...a reasonable question.
"A Siberian Tiger from the Siberian bloodline that your family has kept pure and clean from any mixed blood. A household that had interesting an lifestyle that made many ask questions. For example, How do they maintain their build and strengths?"
With those words...everything froze. The world stop. My breath hitched and my heart started to beat in my ear...does he know? How can he possible know? I didn't say anything that gave me away. I just asked a question....did he do a background check? Is that how he knows? No....impossible. No information about my family was made known to the public...unless...no. Nobody knows...nobody should know. They were all disposed of....
Flashback:
While I was growing up, I learned that mother and father had many enemies. Shocker! I know. I was quite shocked myself. I knew they had enemies but I never really knew they had so many. Than again, it shouldn't be a surprise. Why? Simple. Those who got in their way were....let's say they were never seen again. I remember finding out the hard way.
I was just a young cub. A little naive cub that still hoped her parents weren't that bad. That maybe they still loved me...how foolish of me.
I wondered, maybe my parents had a bad day. Maybe they just were stressed that day. I should make it up! I should go visit mommy and daddy! Go see them! Maybe, they are happy today!
And with those thoughts in mind, I went to father's office. You know, I was never allowed in father's office. I wasn't even allowed a foot neared it. I haven't thought why I wasn't allowed it.
I never questioned my parents on why but I knew one thing....that today would different.
I was allowed passed the guards and the servants never made a move to stop me.
I didn't question the look in their eyes. I never seen the look in their eyes before but...now I do. The look of caution, the fear and disgust. I now recognize the look in their eyes.
I approached the office with no fear.
No knowledge of what I would be facing.
I knocked on the door with joy. Today, would be different. Father should be happy today...I mean he did sound happy at dinner.
"Yes?" That's father!
"It's me! Valerie!" I answered back.
"Valerie? What's she doing here?" Mother? She's in there too?
"Mom?" I asked.
"...." It was silent...there was a couple of hushed whispers that I couldn't here and sometimes the tone would turn sharper and sounded more...angry? I don't know what they discussed but they didn't sound happy. I wonder why...
I wonder why indeed...
"Enter." Father answered to me. It was short and curt but I didn't pay it any mind.
I entered the room, unknowingly my perspective of the world was changed.
What I saw scarred me for life....my parents weren't the kind parents I knew...no....they were monsters. I should have known. I should have ran back out...I should have known.
What I saw was a wounded herbivore. An antelope. A female antelope. A doe. She had big ears. She also had a look in her eyes I never seen before...Wait...have I seen that look before? I know that look. It was the same look other herbivore kids gave me....it was....
Fear....
What did she fear? Was it my father? Was it my mother? Or was it I? That's ridiculous. What did she have to fear?
"Dad...who is she?" I asked as I looked at the herbivore.
"That?" Father asked as he tilted his head a little...that? I said she..
"That is our dinner."
"...."
"...."
Dinner? Her? Our dinner?! What does he mean?
"Wh-what do you mean?" I needed to know if he meant it that way. It can't be true...she's not food...is she?
What I don't know was that at the time, she was food.
I didn't know what to do...I don't even know what happen next...it all happened in a blur than next thing I know..the world went black? Did I black out? What happened? All I remember....was that..I was crying. I was crying so hard..I couldn't breathe. Even then...I was still fighting. Why was I fighting?
It was then...I felt the taste of something...metallic...
At the time I didn't know what it was....
It tastes so weird..what is it?
I didn't want to know...
Why is it dark? When did I shut my eyes?
I should have kept my eyes shut..
I need to see what I was fed...
I opened my eyes...
No
And I was completely horrified by what I saw...
