I looked at the clock on the wall. "Two minutes." I thought to myself. I focused on the clock. Its ticking felt like an eternity was going by with each click. I yawned and looked at my time card. I looked around the empty building. my desk being the only one illuminated by a cheap lamp. The clock finally struck eleven o'clock and I sighed loudly, cracking my neck. It hurt after sitting at a desk all day at a computer. I clocked out and walked outside, unlocking my car and getting in. That's when my stomach growled and the first thing to pop into mind was a burger from the diner downtown. I pulled out of the parking lot and slowly drove down the empty road. The only other lights on at the moment besides my headlights were the street lamps and maybe the occasional shop or building. I decided the silence was lonely and turned on the radio to some soft jazz to play in the background. For some odd reason, all stations I tuned in to were static. blaring static. So I simply turned it off and pulled into the diner's parking lot.
I got out of my car and realized it was significantly chillier than when I left work. I brushed it off as normal and walked inside. a middle aged woman greeted me at the front. "Hi welcome to The Sunrise Diner, my name's Betty how can I help you?" She smiled at me but I could tell by her eyes she was exhausted and wanted to go home. So I decided my trip here should be quick. "A table for one, please." She lead me to a lone booth near the back of the diner, handing me a plastic menu and walking off. The woman's heels clacked against the old tile floor.
