"Hey, it is going to be okay.
"Yeah you're right."
I get out and I grab Gracelyn. We walk into the 21st to see an old lady with gray hair shouts Connor's name.
"Connor!"
"Hey Grandma Trudy."
"What are you doing here?"
"Well, this is my best friend Bella and she needs to report her ex-boyfriend. We also need you to babysit this little girl Graclynn. Me and Bella have our first shift at Med today."
"Yeah of course I got you."
When Trudy says this. A very attractive man starts to walk down the stairs. He has brown hair with a little bit of facial hair and he is very muscular.
"Adam." Trudy says.
"Yeah Sarg."
"I need you to help Bella while I babysit her daughter."
"Okay copy that Sarge. Kevin, have Halstead go with you " He hands something to Kevin.
"Adam, This is my grandson Connor and his best friend Bella. She needs to report her Ex-Boyfriend."
"Adam." He shakes my hand.
"Bella, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."
"Bella, I'm going to go get coffee before shift. I'll see you later. Be good for grandma Trudy Gracelyn."
"Okay Uncle Connor."
"Okay. Bye I love you."
"I love you too Bella, I'll see you later." After I watched Connor walk out of the door. I had an uneasy feeling. If Connor trusts his grandma then I need to trust her too.
"Bella, follow me." Adam leads me up the stairs and through a metal door up to what looks like his desk.
"So Bella, What is this Ex-boyfriends name?"
"Jack Ruzek."
"Ruzek?"
"Yeah."
"I didn't know he was still alive."
"What do you mean?"
"I thought he got killed in jail."
"What?"
"Yeah after he assaulted a girl. He got put in jail and he kept asking to see Bella Jones. Is that you?"
"Yeah." I look around the room and then I look at Adam's desk. His nametag said Adam Ruzek. Omg he is Jack's brother.
"What's wrong?"
"Do you know him?"
"Yeah, he is my brother after my dad got full custody of me when we were five. My dad moved from Michigan to Chicago. I haven't seen him since we put him in jail when he was visiting here like6 years ago."
"Oh."
"Why are you reporting him?"
"Well, ever since I was 14 he has been assaulting me. When I was 15 he-he." I started to cry. I tried to fight it but they poured out.
"Hey, it's ok, take your time."
"He raped me. Ever since I ran away he had been sending threats to my phone saying that he is going to kill me or everyone I love."
"Hey, it's going to be ok. You're safe." He pulled me into a hug.
"Thank you Adam."
"Yeah of course but me and you are going to see a lot more of each other."
"What do you mean?"
"Well we have to keep you in protective custody so then he can't get to you."
"What about Gracelyn? What about my job? Today is my first day."
"Where do you work?"
"Chicago Medical."
"Who is your supervisor?"
"Will Halstead."
"My brother?." A voice said. I jumped.
"Oh, Bella, this is Jay. Jay, this is Bella."
"Hi, nice to meet you. Sorry I scared you."
"Yeah, nice to meet you too. And it's fine. I jump very easily."
"So you know my brother?"
"Well I was going to meet him this morning. But I have to hang around here for a while."
"Wait, you're that Bella?"
"What do you mean?"
"My brother has been talking about you all week. He said that he can't wait to meet a very talented surgeon."
"Oh, he said that I'm talented."
"Yeah. Well I better get working."
"Yeah you should."
Jay walks to his desk and Adam gets up.
"Do you want to go get some food?"
"I don't know."
"Bella, you look like you have not slept in days and not eaten since yesterday morning."
"Yeah, you're right. Where are we going?"
"Well there is this great donut shop downtown."
"That sounds good."
"Okay, let's go."
When we got to the donut shop.They had a huge menu. I felt bad for ordering probably 50 dollars worth of food but I was starving because I could barely eat. We heard gunshots. I ducked. I think I got hit because that is the last thing I remember before I woke up in a hospital bed with Adam, Jay and Connor in my room.
"What happened?"
"You got shot." An unknown voice says. I read his name tag, it says Halstead.
"Your Will right?"
"Yeah."
"When can I get out of here?"
"Wow you are just like Jay. I can discharge you tomorrow if you promise you will rest."
"I promise."
Will walks out and Jay follows him. Connor. talks to one of the nurses.
"Adam, don't I have to be in protective custody?"
"Yeah, it is best if you stay with someone in the Intelligence unit until everything dies down. I know you are going to feel uncomfortable with everything that happened especially since I'm his brother but I would like it for you to stay with me."
"Why can't I stay with Connor?"
"Well, if you are always with Connor he is going to know where you are. My cabin is off the grid so nobody knows it's there but my co-workers. Not even my blood family knows where I live. I promise you are going to be safe there."
"Okay."
"Bella, I'm not going to force you to stay with me. I just thought that you have known me longer than anyone in the unit. That you would want to stay with me."
"Yeah you're right. It is for my own safety."
"Yeah for your own safety."
"Okay, I'll text Connor and tell him to not wait for me."
"I'm sorry that you have to do this. I'm also sorry for what my brother did to you. You don't deserve it. You are one of the nicest people I have met."
"Thanks, that's the nicest thing someone has ever told me. Adam?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm just going to say this. I know you know that I have a daughter. Adam, I really like you. I didn't see any pictures of rings."
"Bella."
"No, I get it. You think that I'm just a charity case."
"Bella, if you would let me talk. You're right. I'm single. You're the first person I have liked. Your Cute funny and smart. I mean you are going to be a doctor. I don't think you are a charity case. I was too scared to ask you. I thought that I reminded you of my brother."
"You are nothing like your brother."
"I'm not?"
"You are Handsome, funny, kind and overall a good person."
"Are you sure about dating somebody with a kid?"
That's when I felt it. He kissed me. My cheeks went from pale to bright red in seconds.
"I'm sure."
I grabbed his shirt to pull him closer so then I could kiss him. There was this energy running through my veins. I have never felt this energy before. Then there was a noise. It was Connor.
"Oh, Connor. Hey, when can I get out of here?"
"They said you can leave in an hour or two, they just want to do a few last minute tests."
"Oh, Connor, this is Adam. Adam, this is my best friend Connor. Adam is going to be taking me and Gracelyn to his house because I'm in protective custody."
"Okay, I wanted to say that I talked to Ms. Goodwin and she said to take all the time you need and that your job is going to be here when you get back."
"Thanks Connor. Love you."
"Of course Bella. I love you too."
Connor got out of there as fast as he could. I can tell. I think he doesn't want me to get hurt again, which I understand. But Adam is a CPD Intelligence Detective. Plus his grandma trusts him so he should too.
"That was weird."
"Yeah, I'm going to talk to Will about getting you discharged. The faster you get out of here the better."
"Yes, Go talk to him. One thing that you should know about me is that I hate hospitals."
"Noted, I will be right back."
I have never felt more in love with someone. I felt safe. Adam is really sweet. He is someone who actually generally cares about me. He doesn't think that I'm another stupid charity case. I wish there were more people in the world like Adam. Then Will, Jay and Adam walk in.
"Hey, so we had to run a blood test and there are some things we need to talk about."
"Okay. What is it?"
