Chapter 8

"Where's Amanda?" I ask mom when I wake up. "She's staying at Nolan's." She replies. Makes sense, we can't have anyone knowing her ties to us. "I'm going over to Daniel's." Mom mentions grabbing her purse. "Could I come, I want to talk to Charlotte?" I add. "Of course." She responds. We walk out to mom's convertible.
Charlotte ends up not being here so I have to wait for her to come back. I text her asking where she is and she says she's on her way home and she'll tell me about when she gets here.
"Let's put her in the ground floor bedroom over there and make sure that everything she needs is close at hand." Victoria says coming in the front door. Mom and Ashley come in through the back door after Victoria calls Ashley's name. I'm just sitting at the kitchen table on my phone. I stand up and walk with mom to the front door. "What's going on?" Ashley asks Victoria. Lydia's in a wheelchair and there's two or three doctors wheeling her into the house. "Oh there you are. Ms. Davis is going to be recuperating here indefinitely. So I'll need you to go into the city and arrange to have all of her things shipped here from her apartment." Victoria orders. Charlotte walks past us. "Mom, Lydia don't let me interrupt you." She says jogging up the stairs. I follow her into her room.
"Where were you last night?" I ask raising an eyebrow. "I spent the night at Declan's." Charlotte explains. I wiggle my eyebrows. "It wasn't like that. We just fell asleep." She continues. I laugh. "What did you do last night?" Charlotte asks. "I was here dumbo." I answer. "Oh right."
My mom texts me that she's leaving and she has some errands to do. "I think I want to have sex with Declan." Charlotte blurts out. I wasn't expecting that. "What do you think?" She continues. "I think if you like him go for it just make sure you use protection." I respond. "Do you want to go to the beach?" Charlotte asks changing the subject. "Sure but I didn't bring my bathing suit." I mention. "You can just borrow one of mine." Charlotte offers. I nod and we walk over to her closet to pick out the bikinis we want to wear. Charlotte chooses a hot pink one and I choose a dark blue one. After changing into our suits we walk downstairs.
Charlotte and I tan practically all day swimming a few times here and there. "You know I really like having you as a friend." Charlotte expresses to me when we are about to leave the beach. "I'm glad we're friends too." I reply.
Once it started to get dark we decided to go back to our own houses. She has a date with Declan tonight and I'm so happy for her.
When I got home my mom and Amanda were hugging. "What's going on?" I ask. "Amanda's going to Paris." Mom replies. "Ok we'll have fun and do lots of shopping." I say before pulling Amanda into a tight hug. "I have to take her to the airport so I'll be back later." Mom announces grabbing Amanda's arm and pulling her out the door.
A while after mom leaves someone opens the door and assuming it's mom I head downstairs. Only to my surprise it Daniel with 2 cops, a woman and a man. "What's going on?" I ask. "We just need to ask your mom a few questions." The man cop says. "Well she's not here." I reply. "Do you know when she'll be back?" He asks. At that moment my mom walks in the door with a confused expression. "I just dropped by and these detectives were waiting on the porch." Daniel explains. "We just want to ask a few questions." The woman detective speaks. "Kate maybe you should go upstairs." Mom tells me. I nod unsure if I should leave her here before going back up to my room.
Mom and Daniel talk with the detectives for a long time but mom finally comes up to my room to tell me everything is fine and that Everyone left. She asks if I want to watch a movie and agree.
"What movie do you want to watch?" Mom asks. "Do you even have to ask." I reply. My mom puts the Notebook into the tv and sits down next to me on the couch. I grab the white blanket laying on the back of the couch and wrap myself in it and laying my head on my moms lap.
About half way through the movie Daniel shows up with a duffel bag. That better not be what I think it is. I lift my head off of moms lap so that she can stand up. "How did it go? Are you ok?" Mom asks Daniel walking over to him. I turn back to the movie but still listen to their conversation. "That house is toxic. You mind if I stay here a while?" Daniel asks mom. Yes actually I do. "No not at all. As long as you need. I just don't want to come between you and your family." Mom replies. "You're not. You're actually saving me from them." Daniel explains before mom pulls him into a hug. I really don't want him to live with us it's going to be so awkward. I tune them out after that having heard enough. Although maybe this will keep mom occupied and I can have more sleepovers with Josh.
After the movie is over I go upstairs and get ready for bed. My phone rings and I quickly answer it. "Hello?" I answer the phone. "Hey babe." Josh replies. "What's up?" I ask. "Just wanted to say goodnight and see how your day was." He answers. "It was okay Charlotte and I went to the beach and then mom and I watched a movie." I say. "Let me guess the notebook." I giggle. "And then Daniel moved in." I mention. "Oh wow really. How do you feel about that?" Josh asks. I hop into bed after getting in short shorts and t-shirt. "I mean it's not ideal and it'll definitely effect some stuff but I guess it's not so bad." I answer. "You can always come over here if it gets to be too much." Josh mentions as I let out a yawn. "I know. But I'm really tired so I'll talk to you tomorrow ok?" I say. "Goodnight." Josh adds. "Goodnight." I say before hanging up. I love that I can talk to Josh about anything. He always says the right things. I. Think about all the things I love about Josh as I slowly fall asleep.
