As Lily talked on and on about how their last school year was gonna be and what fun activities she had planned for them Winston's attention was fixated on something else. They had always passed their neighbourhood park on the way to school each morning, but today a memory crept up on him. Lily and Winston were ten years old running all over the park in a very intense game of tag. Their mothers were sitting together at the same bench they always did and chatted away with cups of Yorkshire tea in hand. Winston remembered that it was such a hot day and like most summer days Lily ran into the lake and always urged Winston to come and join her. She knew he had a fear of water and playfully teased him every time she had swam.
"Oh mi corazón you have to come join me it's so nice and refreshing"
That was the nickname she always used and always called him ever since he could remember. This was also Lily's way of winning the game because it was the only place Winston wouldn't tag her was in the water. Moments later however, Lily came running out of the water waving something in her hand
"Mi corazón! I forgot to take my off my grandmothers necklace. Will you hold onto it for me since you are too chicken to get wet?"
"Sure Lils,"
Said Winston
"Just don't be too much longer, our mothers keep looking at us like it's time to go"
"Thanks. You're the best Winston,"
Said Lily, and she gave him a hug before jumping back into the water. Winston had stood there in complete shock with his jaw dropped. Lily his best friend, hugged him a million times before, but he had never felt like that afterwards. Winston knew at that moment Lily was more than his best friend, she was his true love.
