"PSST! PSST! Y/n wake up!"
I jumped up from my bed as I saw my mom at my door.
"If you don't want to be late on your first day, you better get up. Now!"
I sighed and laid my head back down on my pillow.
My mom shut my door and walked away.
So many thoughts were in my head.
My last year of middle school..
is it going to be a good year?
I guess we'll have to find that out.
I got up and changed my clothes. I brushed my teeth, straightened my hair, and walked to the bus stop.
I waited about 10 minutes until the bus arrived.
I walked onto the bus, recognizing a few kids from the years previous.
But one person caught my eye over all the others.
Anthony Larusso.
He looked so much different.
His hair was fluffy-ish, his face was... cuter, his body was thinner.
I was amazed.
I've always thought the kid was cool, but I never really liked him.
I never even talked to him.
His dad owns a karate dojo. I've wanted to join, but all the kids are older than me and I don't want to seem like a little kid around them.
Plus, all the karate drama is annoying.
But, I did take a few self-defense classes.
I sat down in an empty seat and I looked out the window.
After a few stops, I saw this kid. I don't think I've ever seen him before, but he looked like a fun kid.
When we pulled up he was dancing. I guess he didn't realize we were there, because he didn't turn around to walk on the bus. He just kept dancing.
Soon enough, the driver beeped his horn and it caught his attention.
He walked onto the bus and all the kids were laughing.
I looked over at Anthony and his friends, as one of them said "Nice moves new kid! What do you call that? The loser limbo?"
Everyone laughed.
I felt bad for him, he was embarrassed.
Then, Anthony said "No no no, I think it's called the 'I'm trying not to shit my pants dance'." he and his friends laughed.
I just looked out the window. I couldn't imagine how this kid felt.
I watched him sit in an empty seat.
I knew what I should do.
"New kid" I yelled to him.
He looked back.
"Come sit with me." I said, patting the empty spot next to me.
He hesitated before he got up and sat next to me.
Anthony and his friend group looked at us with confusion.
I ignored them.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Oh, Uh- Kenny" he responded.
"Hi Kenny, My names Y/n" I smiled.
He nodded his head and looked away.
We sat in silence for a few seconds.
"Thanks" he said.
"For what?" I asked. I obviously knew what he meant but I wanted to make conversation.
"For helping me out while everyone else was laughing at me."
"Oh please Kenny, they're all jerks. Just ignore them, they'll forget."
"I won't." He said.
I sighed.
"Well, that dance was pretty funny." I giggled.
He looked at me with an angry-ish face on.
"Oh come on! Like you wouldn't laugh if you saw someone doing that!" I said to him.
He just sighed and looked away.
I put my hand on his shoulder.
"I'm teasing you."
He looked back at me and grinned.
We stayed silent for the rest of the ride.
Once we got to school, I found my best friend Emma.
"Hey Emma, do we got any classes together?" I asked.
"Not sure, who's your homeroom?" she responded.
"Henningson." I answered
"Well I have Jacobs."
"Oh, well then I guess i'll see you later then!" I said.
"Yep! Bye."
I walked to my locker. It was right next to this girl Lia. I never really talked to her, since she was sort of one of the "popular" kids, but she seemed nice.
She's also friends with Anthony.
"Hey!" she said to me.
"Oh, hey Lia! Is that your locker?"
"Yep, that's mine!"
"Cool. How was your summer? I asked.
"It was good! How was yours?"
"It was pretty good. Hey, who do you have for first period?"
"I think his name is Mr. Henningson?"
"So do I!"
"Cool! I'm not sure where to go, do you want to walk together?"
"That would be great."
We found the classroom and walked in. We had assigned seats.
We had to look for our names. No one was sitting next to me yet, but I looked at the name.
Anthony Larusso
Oh...
Next thing I know, Anthony walked in. He looked around to see the teacher.
"Is this uh- Mr. Henningson's class?" He asked.
The teacher looked up from his newspaper and sighed.
"Mhm, find your seat." he said, with an annoyed voice.
He looked around until he locked his eyes on me.
He saw there was no one next to me so he looked at the name tag.
"Well I guess this is my seat" he said, chuckling.
"Yep." I said, before looking down at book I was reading.
He put his books down and sat in the seat.
"You're y/n, right?" he asked.
"Mhm." I said, still reading.
"Cool, I'm Anthony."
"Yep, I know."
"So, uh, how was your summer?" he asked.
"Good."
"That's great."
He was staring at me.
I rolled my eyes and shut my book.
"Y'know, I think it was pretty rude to do that to Kenny."
"Oh, uh, the new kid?"
"Yeah, the 'new kid.'"
"Yeah, I was just messing with him."
"Mhm." I said, clearly not agreeing to what he said.
He just sighed and looked away.
The class started and we got busy.
After school, I went home to see 3 texts from a random number.
Unknown Number
hey
is this y/n?
Sorry, it's Kenny from the bus.
I completely forgot that I gave him my number while we were talking.
hey Kenny!
yeah, this is y/n
He didn't answer for awhile, so I just left it alone.
My mom got home from work and started to cook. I walked out to the kitchen once I heard her.
"Hey mom!"
"Oh hey honey, how was school?"
"It was pretty good, I made a few new friends"
"That's great sweetie."
"What's for dinner today?"
"Lemon pepper chicken. I've already gotten started. Do you mind handing me that pan on the counter?"
I grabbed the pan and handed it to her.
"So mom, I heard the Larusso's had a karate dojo close by"
"Did you?"
"Yeah, they seem pretty cool."
"Are you thinking about joining?"
"Yeah, if that's okay with you.."
"I'm not sure, We don't have much money right now."
"No mom, it's free."
"Free karate lessons? Doesn't that seem sketchy?"
"I mean.. Not really. I know a few people who go there."
"Well if you think it's safe you can go for it, but please be careful."
"Thanks so much mom!"
"Of course sweetie, now go take out the dog for me please."
I grabbed the leash and brought Lucy to the door. We walked outside and she did her business.
My mom and I have been living alone together for the passed 3 years after my dad moved out. Him and mom divorced because of his job. They never really had problems together, but my mom wanted me to have a good life, and she didn't want me to have to be traveling around with my dad all the time.
I think it was a decent decision. Only, I don't get to see dad much.
We call all the time though. I tell him pretty much everything.
I watched tv in the living room until my mom was done cooking.
We ate together and talked about school.
Once we were done, I washed my dish and went to my room. I picked out a pair of pajamas and walked to the bathroom. I took a long, thoughtful shower.
I'm already confused.
With what?
A lot.
I mean, Anthony can't be that bad, right?
He's a Larusso, of course he's not bad!
But then why did he do that to Kenny?
Why does he have to be so cute too?
And popular...
And rich.
Mom let me join Miyagi Do!
Okay, I guess things aren't too bad.
I finished my shower and brushed my teeth. I put on a face mask and sat on my bed, listening to music for 15 minutes.
I washed off the mask and laid down. It was 10:30 PM now.
I closed my eyes, clearing my head from everything.
But one thing stuck in my mind.
Anthony Larusso's smile.
A/n
