Luna walked with Lucas and Dustin.
The group had decided to go to the middle school after Dustin's call with Mr Clarke. Dustin was slowly rolling the Byer's kiddy pool into the gym of the school.
Feeling bad for the boy Luna leans down and just picks up the pool.
"You could have done that the whole time?" Lucas asked frustrated.
"I thought Dustin would want to feel like he's helping"
"Hey!" Dustin yelled.
Luckily Lucas and Luna had already started setting up the pool, so no argument could start. As they started to fill the pool with water Luna decided to check on eleven.
She entered the room eleven was in just as Joyce was leaving.
"Luna I just want to say thank you for everything you've done. Just being there for Jonathan... I just- thank you" Joyces stated, placing her hand on the girl's shoulder.
Luna shrugged "I promised Jonathan I would help him with anything, I was just keeping my word" Joyce didn't respond, just gave the teen a hug.
Eleven looked up at Luna as she entered the room. "We got the pool out, so just got to fill it up" Luna attempted to make small talk, which she wasn't very good at.
Eleven just tilted her head, confused by the older girl.
"Look... you're going to be alright. There's nothing to be worried about. It's ok".
"It's ok" Eleven repeated, trying to convince herself.
"You found yourself a good group of friends, those kids are great"
There was silence between the two, neither were very talkative people.
Saving them from the silence Jame popped his head into the room.
"Everything is ready for you" Micheal stated, looking awkwardly at the girl he hadn't even officially met.
Eleven grabbed her goggles and headed to the pool.
As Luna exited Micheal brought her into a sidewards hug. "What have we gotten ourselves into?"
---
Everyone watched as eleven lay down in the water of the pool.
Luna sat between Hopper and James, who both seemed protective of her, especially when the lights started flickering.
Suddenly Eleven started screaming "Gone, Gone" Almost instantly Luna grabbed her hand.
It was something her mother had always done, for the little time she was around, hold her hand while she was stressed. Luna was someone who couldn't properly show her emotions, especially deeper ones, so her way of comfort was just a simple hand hold.
Soon Joyce joined her, speaking calming words to the girl in the water. "Will" Everyone looked surprised, especially Joyce and Jonathan
"Tell him, I'm coming, mom is coming" Joyce begged, hope shining in her eyes. Suddenly Will's voice came from the radio "Hurry" it spoke.
"Ok listen you tell him to stay where he is, we're coming" Eleven jolted up, taking off the glasses, crying.
Joyce started comforting her, Luna decided not to invade the two. They obviously both needed comfort from each other.
---
Luna heard Hopper calling for Joyce outside. She walked out to see Jonathan standing outside and Hopper and Joyce getting in the car.
"Wait up I want to help" Luna yelled out.
"No, no way. You have been through enough danger, you are not joining us for this". Hopper insisted. Jonathan also looked like he was against the idea of Luna going with them.
"But you could use more help, that is an objective fact. No one else is here and you know I can work with you"
"There's no way you're going" Hopper insisted
"Then I'll go"
Luna and Jonathan turned to see James "James you don't have to"
"I know but I feel like I've only held this operation back, I want to help".
"Look I don't care if you go or not, but if you are, just get in the car" Hopper yelled obviously in hurry. "Yes of course," James said awkwardly.
He started speed walking to the car, only to stop and turn to luna. Giving her a kiss on the forehead he whisper "stay safe" Luna only nodded her head
"Hurry up" Hopper yelled again
"Coming" Micheal yelled back, this time actually running to the car. The 3 drove off leaving only Jonathan and Luna
"So... you can work with the chief of Police?" Jonathan asked in a somewhat judgmental but more confused voice.
"We have a lot in common" Luna stated, her eyes not moving from the car driving off
Jonathan gave out a chuckle, it was an almost sad one. Knowing that neither of them nor their families will be able to go back to normal
"If we get through this, the two of us are going to have a movie night and just pretend nothing has happened. Just the two of us again" Luna finally looked up to Jonathan.
"Not if, when" She stated. She always talked in a very factual way, but this time felt different. To Jonathan it wasn't just something she believed, it was a stone-cold fact.
They were going to survive this.
--
Luna sat outside, she had stayed back to get some air.
Suddenly Jonathan and Nancy ran out not desperately looking for Luna. Luna looked up to her two friends
"We're planning on killing that monster, we're headed back to Jonathan's place, come on" Nancy grabbed Luna's hand and started to lead her to the car.
Luna looked back at the gym and stopped her movements. Nancy looked back confused.
"I think someone should stay back with the kids and keep an eye on them. I mean one of them is probably wanted or something" She responded, referring to the group of middle schoolers inside.
Nancy looked conflicted with what Luna was saying. She didn't want to be away from Luna, but she also thought she would be safer here than at Jonathan's place......... also she wanted her brother to be safe.
"You sure you're ok with this Luna?" Jonathan asked joining the conversation.
Luna nodded. Suddenly she was pulled into a hug by Nancy "Please stay safe"
From over Nancy's shoulder, Luna could see Jonathan nodding his head.
"I will, but you have to stay safe as well"
And with that Nancy left with Jonathan, leaving only Luna, a group of dorky boys and a magical girl in the middle school gym.
As Luna entered the gym the boys seemed somewhat relieved to see her.
"There you are!" Dustin yelled hugging her. Luna just awkwardly stood there waiting for him to get off her.
"Where's Jonathan and my sister?" "Oh, they left" All the kids looked in shock "And you just let them?" Lucas asked in astonishment.
"Look they had important things they need to do. But hey, I'm here to protect you guys." Eleven and Dustin seemed happy about this news whilst Lucas and Mike groaned
"We're screwed"
---
"Why won't you just move?!?!" Mike yelled trying to push Luna away from the door, which she had decided to start protecting after Mike's several attempts to escape.
"I told you, you shouldn't leave it's safer to stay here," Luna said with an unimpressed look on her face.
"Come on Mike, stop trying to escape" Dustin sighed, also sick of Mike's attempts.
"Do you really want to just give up?" Mike asked surprised by his friends. "Mike, you may have forgotten but we're still fugitives. It's safer for us to stay here. We know that both Jonathan and Nancy can protect themselves."
Mike let out a reluctant sigh. "Fine"
"Finally" Dustin sighed, standing and walking out of the gym and towards the kitchen. "Where are you going?" Mike asked
"I'm going to get some chocolate pudding, I'm telling you the lunch lady hoards that shit" Lucas also got up to join Dustin.
"That's always been a dream of mine," Luna said, following behind the boys "to eat the pudding, not hoard it" Luna clarified the obvious, causing all three boys somewhat roll their eyes.
She suddenly whipped around "Eleven, keep an eye on Mike, makes sure he doesn't leave"
Eleven gave her a nod and with that, Luna joined the two boys to raid her old middle school cafeteria.
---
Luna had filled a whole bag with chocolate pudding. She had found one in the cafeteria and decided it was fate telling her to steal the food. Usually, it would go against her morals to steal, but she decided after the week she's had, she could make an exception.
She had only just managed to carry the large bag into the cafeteria to share with eleven when Mike came bolting in. "Guys! They found us" "Shit"
Luna instantly started pushing the kids out of the room. She knew they has probably already entered the gym so she decided to go through the hall. "How did they find us?" Lucas asked "I don't know, but they knew we were in the gym" Luna responded.
Ahead of them a bunch of men with flashlights entered. "Go go go"
They all ran in the other direction only to be blocked off again. There was no way for them to go. Luna grabbed the kids, keeping them shielded to the most of her ability. She may not have been able to help Will, but she was sure as hell going to protect the rest of these kids.
Luna suddenly noticed the blood starting to drip from the worker's eyes. "Close your eyes" she whispered to the boys. She understood why eleven was using her powers but she still didn't want the boys to see the gruesome effects of them.
Once they had all fallen to the floor, Luna grabbed eleven's hand "You ok?" "Yes," Eleven answered quietly. Despite her words, eleven's body reacted differently, fainting into luna's arm.
"El, El are you ok," Mike asked desperately "She's just drained" "No she's barely breathing" Luna lifted eleven into her arms. "We can help her later, the best thing right now is to get out of here".
"Leave her" A grey-haired man in a suit demanded. "Let go of her now" Luna knew it was doctor Brenner. Even if she hadn't already seen pictures of him in the articles she and Hopper studied, he just radiated evil scientist vibes.
"No you want her you have to kill us first" "That's right" "Eat shit"
Guards came up behind the boys grabbing them, one was about to grab Luna when Brenner stopped him "No, we can't hurt the kid" he turned to Luna
"Come on dear, hand me the girl and no one needs to get hurt" "I think it's a little too late for that dick" Luna spat, with a venom that was almost foreign to her.
Brenner looked at eleven "Eleven, eleven" "Don't talk to her you monster" Eleven stirred in her state "Papa" "That's right, see, she knows I'm her papa. Come here eleven"
It made Luna so sick to see this man, this monster, treat this child like a dog. "Stay away from her you bastard" Mike yelled "Protect her Luna" Dustin joined in.
Eleven whined. "Hey, hey don't listen to them, you're sick, I can make you better. I can take you back home, away from these bad people and make you better"
"Bad" eleven mumbled "Yes, bad, they are bad people"
"No, you are bad" Eleven stated as the lights started to flicker. Luna held on eleven tighter. The Demogorgon suddenly burst through the wall.
Seeing as the guards had let go of the boys to shoot the creature, Luna pushed the kids down the hall, getting as far away from the thing as she could.
