We arrive at a house that is not familiar to me. I go to move up but suddenly get dizzy. “Relax baby, you're probably dehydrated and need to eat. I will take care of you.” He grabbed my hand as we went to step out of the vehicle. I still have to put some of my weight on him but I can manage to walk on my own. We walk in the front door and he leads me down a hall to a study. When we walk in he takes me to a couch and sits me down.
“Tony, get me the doctor that is on call please.” I looked over to the door and saw a man standing there and he just nods to Os and walks out. “Rob, go see if you can get her something to eat, nothing too heavy, just something lite.” I see another man turn and go out the door. “You don't need to do all this, I'm sure that I am fine. I just need some rest.” I say feeling like I just want to fall asleep. Os came over to me and started to examine me. He grabbed my wrist and saw the marks from the chains. Then he took my chin and looked at my neck. Lastly, he looked at my face and traced what I knew were bruises that were there.
“Did they do anything else to you?” As I look at his eyes I see him look down and back up to meet my stare. “No nothing like that.” I shake my head and look down because I need to tell him about the baby but I just don't know how. “He reaches down and grabs my hand. “I am so sorry that I wasn't there for you. It's all my fault.” I looked up at him with such love that I hope he feels it.
“It wasn't your fault, your father is not a good person. I do remember you telling me that part. I just don't know what he wanted from me. He asked about my mother and where I was that night. I told him I was out and don't remember that night entirely. I didn't think he believed me.” He looked so remorseful. “He had his green eyed goon asking about my father which I didn't understand.” I looked at him and what I saw was not surprising but shocking. “What did you say to him about your father?” I am starting to get that weird feeling in my gut.
“I told him that he left when I was younger and that I don't remember him alot. It seemed like he wanted me to say something specific but I don't know.” He got up from where he was next to me and started to pace. “What is it, do you know something about my father?” He stopped and put his hands in his pockets and signed. “Do you remember anything from your childhood, like where your father worked?” What the hell is going on? “That is the same question that he asked me and I'll give the same answer I don't know.” I need to get out of here because I'm getting really irritated now because no one is giving me any answers. The door opens and the man who was getting me food walks in.
“I grabbed whatever I could in the kitchen. I hope this is ok.” I look up at him and try to give him a nice smile to say thank you but it's extremely hard right now. He sets the food on the table and goes to walk back out of the room making sure to shut the door. “I want to go to bed seeing as how you don't want to tell me anything right now.” I go to get up on wobbly legs still and Os is next to me in a second. “Wait until the doctor gets here then I will take you to the room to lay down, please.” All I could do was nod and maybe I should eat something. I see that Rob brought some fresh fruit. I reach for the bowl and start to eat some of the pieces. “Are you going to tell me what my father has to do with everything or are you going to be as secretive as your father?” He looked at me and I can see him fighting a battle on what to do in his eyes.
“I plan to tell you everything but you need to rest and get your strength back first.” I take a few more bites of the fruit and set the bowl down. I reached for the glass of water that he also brought and when I took a drink it felt so good going down. I'm definitely dehydrated. I take a few more drinks and lay my head back because I am so done with this day and the Riggs men. There was a sudden knock on the door and when Os goes to open it a lady with a black bag walks in. She looks to be in her forties but is very professional looking.
“Good evening, I hear that there is a Ms. Scott that needs assistance tonight?” She looks over at me and I see the worry in her eyes, more there should be. I know what she might be thinking but she is way wrong. “Yes, she is dehydrated and needs to be checked over to make sure that she is ok.” Os is talking to her but I can tell she doesn't want to talk with him. I can imagine that they probably offered her a lot of money to not ask questions and to just do what is asked of her. As she walked over to me she looked at me from head to toe. “Hello Ms. Scott, I'm Dr. Emerald. Can you tell me if anything hurts and if you feel as though anything is broken?” I look at her when she starts to grab things out of her bag. She takes my blood pressure and listens to my heart. “No nothing broken, just a little banged up is all and very sleepy.” She smiled and kept examining me. She started to move down to my stomach and I stopped her and tried to give her a look as if to wait.
“Mr. Riggs, can you please step out so that I can fully examine her in private?” She looked over at him as if not asking the question but telling him. “I will be right outside the door.” I smiled and he walked over to the door and stepped out. “Is there anything that you want to tell me, Ms. Scott, any medical conditions?” She looked down to my stomach and back to me. I'm terrified to tell this total stranger but I need her to check and make sure that the baby is ok. “I took two pregnancy tests and they both said positive. Is there a way to see if the baby is ok?” Her eyes went wide and again I can tell she's thinking the worst of Os.
“Yes I will check you and see if we can tell but let me listen and see if I can hear the heart.” I lay on my back and she started to move around to listen. “There, I hear it clear as day. Your baby has a very strong heart. I would suggest that you get into an OBGYN soon though because you need to get on a vitamin to start to get your plan going on what you decide to do with the baby.’ I don't know if she is suggesting that I give the baby up but that is not going to happen.
“I am going to put an IV in and give you some fluides to get you hydrate faster. I reach to stick my arm out to her and give her the go for it look. “I plan to keep it. But please don't say anything to Os, Mr. Riggs because I have not told him yet.” She smiled. “Of course I will not say anything but make sure that you get in to see a lady doctor to make sure everything is actually alright.” I start to feel the fluids going into my veins and I relax instantly. With the IV going I close my eyes and try to relax and sleep takes over.
