Perry
"Move." I heard someone shout from behind the doors and I turned to see a man holding a gun. I had little time to react before he shot a few rounds into the door. The glass shattered around me and I felt the stings of the shards slicing through my arms.
The man quickly stepped through the door and pulled me out. I looked behind us as we ran at the thing chasing us. My once kind principal was now something else. His eyes weren't there. Just the pitch black sockets. His mouth had blood pouring out of it and his once normal looking body was now distorted.
"Come on," The man yelled and I snapped out of it, following him to a bright blue jeep. He opened the passenger door and hoisted me in. I had just gotten into a jeep with a stranger. But did it matter?
A few seconds later he was in and speeding out of the parking lot. I was finally able to peel my eyes away and looked at him.
My eyes widened, he was kind of good looking. But in like a Chris Hemsworth type of way. He had hazelnut hair and brown eyes. He couldn't have been much older then I am. Maybe 19?
"Thank you." I whispered. I was terrified of what I just saw.
"Did he touch you?" The mystery man asked and I cocked an eyebrow.
"He wasn't some creep." I scoffed.
"Not like that. Did he physically touch you or bite you?" I didn't notice how raspy or how deep his voice was.
"No." I shook my head. He nodded and tightened his grip on the steering wheel, looking in the rearview mirror over and over.
"Whats your name?" I asked, my voice shaky. When would it stop being so fucking shaky?
"Keith." His words were short and not very sweet.
"Cool. I'm Perry." I tightened the seat belt and winced. I looked down and realized my once white hoodie was now red with cuts on it.
"Damn it." I said and unbuckled.
"Put it back on." Keith demanded without taking his eyes off of the road.
I ignored the alpha male and quickly took off my hoodie. I was left in a black tank. My arms were all cut open and blood was running down them.
"You owe me a white hoodie." I said lightly and sat back, buckling my seatbelt.
"I saved your life and I owe you something." He scoffed.
"Exactly. You're a quick study, aren't you?" I replied sarcastically. One of my lovable traits is sarcasm, clearly.
"Where do you live?" He asked and I told him my address. He was lost as to where It was so I gave him step by step directions until we were parked on the dirt path that lead to my home.
I didn't say anything as I hopped out. I heard a slight protest before I slammed the door shut. This guy was quite demanding and I've only known him for 20 minutes. Take me to dinner first if you're gonna be like that.
I heard his door slam and he came around to my side. The height difference was insane. I was 5'6 and a half. He towered over me and I've never felt more like a child.
"Are you even aware of what's going on?" He asked and I nodded.
"Then be more cautious. Let's go." He turned and began down the driveway.
"Sir, I barely know you. You have a fucking gun! What makes you think I'm okay with you coming to my home?" I asked, following close behind him.
"Once I make sure you're safe, I'll leave you alone." He shrugged and I scoffed. Was I allowed to have an opinion?
I followed his every step until we reached my little ranch home and my eyes widened. The door was broken and glass panes shattered.
I pushed past Keith but he was quick to grab my arm and I winced. He immediately let go and I raced into my home.
The smell of copper instantly hit my nose and I gagged.
"Mom?" I called and walked deeper into the house . I heard Keith's boots crush the glass as he walked in.
I made my way down the hall and to my parents' room. I turned the small handle until it clicked and opened the door. My mom was sitting on the bed while my dad was laying there.
"Im home," I greeted but no one moved. My dad's eyes were shut and his body lifeless.
"Dad?" I asked and stepped deeper into the room. I watched as my mom's shoulders raised and fell.
"What's wrong with Dad?" I asked quietly. I was afraid Keith would come in and harm them. I slowly walked back to the door and shut it, locking it in the process.
I turned back to the bed where my mom was now standing. She was still facing towards the window. A screech filled the room and my heart dropped.
No.
She wasn't like the principal. She couldn't be.
I heard the doorknob rattle.
"Don't come in." I shouted, my voice probably giving my feelings away.
Mom finally turned towards me. Her eyes were missing just like back at the school. Her shoulders were out of place and so was her neck.
"Mom, Its me. Perry." I said slowly and took a step forward. She screeched and I closed my eyes and stepped back.
"Open the door!" I heard Keith on the other side.
"I just need a minute." I said a little louder then a whisper. I could fix her. Fix this. Fix my Dad.
She took a step towards me and I could hear her bones cracking. Each step she took they cracked.
"Mom, its okay. Im here, okay?" I whispered, fear was all I felt. She was only a few inches from me now. Her head turned over and over, like she was trying to figure me out.
She reached a hand out, and I stared at it. Her nails were covered in flesh and blood.
Before she could make contact, the door slammed open and Keith pushed himself inside. His eyes trained on her and he held his gun up.
"No don't!" I yelled and he froze. "She's okay. She's just sick. They said there was a vaccine." I said quickly, my words all jumbling together.
"Perry," Keith said my name ever so softly and looked me in the eyes. "That thing isn't your mom anymore."
"It is my mom!" I shouted and felt something grab my arm and a loud bang sounded.
My mom had grabbed my arm and was about to sink her teeth into it.
Tears formed as I watched her lifeless body tumble to the floor.
"M-mom?" I called and my knees gave out. Keith quickly pulled me into his arms and out of the room.
"You can't touch her. You have open wounds." Keith whispered. I gave into the sobs that had formed in my throat.
This morning I was a normal highschooler. I had friends and two parents.
What happened?
