"I heard you apologised to (Y/n)." Ran gave a side eyed glance at Sanzu who was checking his gun.
Sliding a clip in Sanzu sighed.
"You really can't mind your own bloody business."
Ran laughed and smirked. "I just thought it was interesting. What happened to making her a plaything?"
"Mikey." At Sanzu's response, the two looked down at his bandaged hand.
"Ah." Ran nodded. "I won't lie, I'm still rather suspicious of her."
Sanzu paused before answering sarcastically, "I wonder why we're meeting with Hanma."
Ran waved a hand before a car pulled up.
"Ran, Sanzu." Hanma exited from the car and strode forward, a glock dangling from his fingers. "How's it going?"
He spoke with a grin that didn't reach his eyes.
"Dealing with your little cronies targeting our businesses. Kokonoi's hair has turned three shades lighter." Ran matched his fake grin, hands tracing the carvings on his gun.
Hanma chuckled, pushing his hair back before speaking. "So, to what do I owe the pleasure."
"(Y/n)." Sanzu answered sharply and Hanma's smile fell. His jaw clenched ever so slightly.
"What about her?"
"Well we're a little concerned in Bonten that she has ties with Kurahikari." Ran crept closer, leering grin on his face. "We don't really like spies."
"She doesn't have ties with Kurahikari." Hanma answered firmly. "Just me."
"And why is that?" Sanzu asked.
With a small sigh, Hanma shook his head like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Kazutora."
Ran and Sanzu looked at each other, equally surprised.
"What do you mean?"
"After Kisaki bit the dust I went to go visit Kazutora in juvie. He wanted me to go find his little sister and take care of her." Hanma answered.
Ran and Sanzu shared a look of suspicion. "But you two weren't very close?"
"Well, you could say I was feeling a little sentimental after everything went down." With a shrug, Hanma leant against the bonnet of his car. "It's too bad she was locked up in an asylum when I went looking for her."
"She was only in for four months?"
Hanma narrowed his eyes before letting out a short laugh. "My god your informant sucks." Sanzu and Ran were taken aback.
"What?"
"Try two years." Hanma revealed. The two Bonten members were shocked. "Thirteen to Fifteen."
"Holy crap," Ran breathed, shaking his head in disbelief. "You're pulling my dick."
"Nope." Hanma said, popping the 'p'. "After she carved up her daddy and burnt the house down she got two years."
Sanzu cocked a brow, "no juvie?"
"Compromise." Hanma made a face, "Jesus you really knew nothing about her."
"Well like you said, our informant sucks." Sanzu muttered.
Hanma cackled. "Kokonoi?"
"Yeah." Ran nodded. "How do you know all this?"
Hanma held up a finger. "She told me," he put up another one, "decent informants," a third finger went up, "illegally obtained documents."
Sanzu rolled his eyes.
"Can't imagine Mikey'll be too happy when he finds out that you're all idiots." Hanma smirked, placing a hand on the door handle of his car.
"We're not done here, Hanma." Sanzu stepped forwards, gritting his teeth.
Hanma hummed teasingly. "No I think we are. Watch out Bonten. And on a more personal note," He opened the door, his piercing eyes glaring at the two. "I'm coming for (Y/n)."
He took off, leaving the two riled up and annoyed.
"I thought she said they weren't close?" Sanzu hissed. Ran had been watching silently and contemplatively.
"Yeah but I really don't think she has ties with Kurahikari." He murmured.
"Who cares?!" Sanzu yelled, "how do you think Mikey will respond to this?!"
"Pop a pill Sanzu." Ran replied impatiently, entering the car.
Sanzu followed suit, cursing under his breath and calling up Mikey.
—————
Mikey woke up, hand empty and the blinds open, allowing the sun the beam into his room. Beside him was a tray of miso soup and a bowl of rice. A tall glass of green tea sat next to it and he clenched his jaw.
He really didn't want to hurt you too. But he didn't want to push you away either.
"I hate this."
The feeling of, well, feeling. It felt like a pit in his stomach, a pressure on his chest and a constant nagging in his brain. He threw off his blankets, bare feet touching the carpet, the softness surprising him.
He never had noticed it before.
He ate all of his food, carrying his tray down to the kitchen.
"Morning boss." Ran waved, finishing his cup of coffee off before throwing the mug into the dishwasher.
"Meeting with Hanma?" Mikey asked, eyeing the man. Ran looked a little surprised before nodding.
"Sanzu's coming too, that alright?" Mikey waved his hand dismissively.
"What time is it?" Mikey glanced around and Ran looked down at his watch.
"Two in the afternoon."
Mikey blinked. "Oh."
"(Y/n)'s been remaking your food every so often so it was fresh when you woke up." Rindou informed him. He had been sitting unnoticed on the couch.
Mikey hummed, packing the dishes into the dishwasher. "Where is she?"
"Rooftop." Rindou answered, jumping up. "I finished up reports, Kokonoi's in at his business, Kakucho monitoring the Roppongi warehouse and Sanzu and Ran are getting ready to see Hanma."
He walked with Mikey to the elevator, the ride silent except for the hum of jazz music. Rindou got off at the office level, leaving Mikey to ride to the rooftop alone.
Upon exiting, Mikey was met with the sight of you in overalls, dirt smearing your face and clothes as you grinned. Holding a plant in one hand and a shovel in the other, he put together the picture. Takeomi and Mochi were both with you, sleeves rolled up as they helped you out.
Music was playing from a speaker and Mikey for a moment felt left out. Barefoot, he walked through the freshly cut grass over to you.
Feeling your sun being blocked, you squinted and looked up. Realising it was Mikey, you jumped to your feet and dusted off your hands.
"Have you eaten?" You asked. He nodded slowly. Following his gaze to the plant in your hands you smiled. "Swan river daisies." You grab his wrist, gently pulling him down to where you were planting it.
Guiding him, you helped him plant a few flowers, aware of the color flooding his cheeks that made him look alive.
"(Y/n)!" Mochi called out, a hand over his face. Takeomi was wearing sunglasses and was leaning on a shovel. "We've prepped the soil in the garden boxes!"
"Thank you!" You waved, "Time for lunch?"
Takeomi dropped his shovel and walked past you, into the elevator. Mochi chuckled and followed behind. They went down and you stopped and looked at Mikey who was looking down at his dirty hands.
It was in the creases of his palms, under his nails. It wasn't the color he was used to seeing on his hands. It was the color of life and beginnings.
You slipped your hand into his and he looked up to see you smiling softly. "Hungry enough for some lunch?"
He nodded and allowed you to lead him down to the kitchen.
