August runs out the school building along with the many other students and his brown eyes search before landing on his best friend who was hiding behind a wall.
August doesn't say anything and instead walks up to stand next to her, knowing exactly who she was waiting to come through the door.
"So, your little boy crush should be coming in about 5 mins and your mom in 9. Want to talk about anything?" August teases her.
Violet jumps having not even sensed him come over.
"August, you scared the bejesus out of me." Violet said lightly punching his arm.
"Coming from the creep stalking her crush from the shadows." August teases playfully rubbing noses with her earning a small laugh from her.
"But seriously, what do you see in this guy? He looks cracked out of his mind. He is cracked out of his mind; sure, he may look... like a drugged-out ken doll but he's not too bright and-" August said going on a small rant as he rests against the stone wall of the school.
Violet seeing the school doors open again quickly pulls him down next to her and out of sight as the doors to the school open.
"Hey, Rydinger. Where you headed?" A boy calls out the drugged-out ken.
"Hi, Tony." A girl flirts with Tony.
Tony gives a flirty "Hey" in response.
"Hey, Tony, can I carry your books?" A boy mocks Tony.
"Knock off Ken Doll." August mutters, shaking his head in distaste, as Tony laughs at the joke.
Tony back tracks upon seeing Violet but stares right through her due to her going invisible.
"Hey, Tony, do you play football?" A boy calls out to Tony drifting his attention away from the invisible Violet.
"Tony, I thought we were gonna go swimming." Boy 2 calls out as Tony walks up to them.
Violet becomes visible again and slides down her back down the wall as she moves to sit next to August who was playfully gagging.
"Did you see that, August? He looked at me." Violet gushes.
"Yeah... he sure did see you there, totally not invisible." August teases her causing her to laugh and bumps shoulders with him.
August looks up and checks his phone seeing that Helen texted letting him know that she was outside.
"Come on, you guys!" Dash calls out causing them both to jump before running over and entering the car.
**
"I'm just saying Violet, if you want that knock off girls toy to notice you, try moving your hair from your face. Show off those beautiful purple eyes of yours." August says as he and Violet sat in their shared bedroom.
Violet climbed to the top bunk while August sat on the bottom.
On one side of the room with the purple wall paint was a desk with a few art supplies and band posters, that was Violet's side of the room.
In the middle was their bunk beds and their separate dressers, Violet's near the head and August near the foot of the beds.
On the other side of the room with the navy-blue wall paint was a desk with a few bolts and screws, blueprints papers, and pencils, on the wall was the periodic table that Violet made for him and sat on his dresser was a picture of his family, the Parrs, and Frozone's family together before his parents disappeared.
"August, you know how insecure I am about my ears." Violet said causing him to stand up and look up at her.
"Violet, you are absolutely amazing. I just don't get why you don't see it." August said grabbing her hands and playfully squeezing them.
"You're the only one to think that." Violet told him with a small shy smile.
"That's some bull-" August is interrupted by Helen calling them all for dinner.
*
"Mom. You're making weird faces again." Dash said looking at Helen who was feeding Jack Jack.
"No, I'm not." Helen said still making a funny face.
"You make weird faces, honey." Bob confirms tiredly.
'Burn out is a crazy thing to have... I pity you Bob.' August thought looking to Bob.
August sat across from Violet and next to Dash.
"She did the same thing with you Dash, you ate it up." August teases Dash playfully poking his side causing Dash to laugh and try to shy away from him.
"Do you have to read at the table?" Helen retorts to Bob sarcastically.
"Uh-huh. Yeah." Bob answers disinterested as he continues to look over the newspaper.
Helen takes note of Dash biting into his steak like a carnivore, "Smaller bites, Dash. Yikes! Bob, could you help the carnivore cut his meat?" Helen asks Bob.
"Ow." Dash says looking at his hand that he was starting to bruise thanks to the way he was holding his knife.
"Dash, you have something you wanna tell your father about school?" Helen asks Dash in a knowing way.
Dash answers with a nervous wavering voice, "Well, we dissected a frog."
"Lucky, Me and Vi's class don't handle organisms, much less frogs anymore." August pouts at the thought as he ate the last of his vegetables.
"Probably because someone tried to bring the frog to life with electricity last time we handled frogs." Violet retorts with a playful smirk.
Helen and Bob look at August who avoids both their eyes and begins to cut into his own steak.
"Tattle tale..." August pouts at Violet who struggles to hide a smirk.
Helen shakes her head, "Dash got sent to the office again." Helen answers for Dash seeing that he was going to try to avoid the subject.
"Good. Good." Bob says distracted with cutting the steak.
"No Bob, that's bad." Helen corrects.
Bob looks up at her in concern, "What?"
"Dash got sent to the office again." Helen clarifies.
"What?? What for?" Bob asks ready to reprimand Dash.
"Nothing." Dash hisses lightly at his mother.
Helen frowns down at him, "He put a tack on the teacher's chair... during class." Helen explains.
"Nobody saw me. You could barely see it on the tape." Dash mutter bitterly.
"They caught you on tape and you still got away with it? Woah! You must have been booking. How fast did you think were you going?" Bob praises not noticing he was cutting the steak faster.
"Bob! We are not encouraging this." Helen scolds him.
"This is about to go bad, aye Jack Jack?" August asks the baby who was following along with the conversation.
Jack Jack giggles with a small nod.
"I'm not encouraging, I'm just asking how fast-" Bob tries to explain himself.
"Honey!" Helen says just as Bob cuts through the plate causing it to collapse.
Bob flops back into his chair annoyed, "Great. First the car, now I gotta pay to fix the table-" Bob hisses to himself.
"The car? What happened to the car?" Helen asks.
Bob looks at his family who looks back at him concerned.
Bob places his plate in front of Dash as August moves the destroyed plate to the trash.
"Here. I'm getting a new plate." Bob says snatching up the newspaper and knife before leaving angrily.
Helen clears her throat and turns to Violet, "So, how about you two, Vi, Gust? How was school?" Helen asks referring to the two teens at the table.
"Nothing to report." Violet says sadly and detached.
August couldn't think of anything he did that would really bring the mood up, he slept through most of his classes. The teachers never minded due to him still staying the smartest student in the school.
It was either he slept in class or became a nuisance.
"You've hardly touched your food." Helen says to Violet noticing her bad mood.
"I'm not hungry for meatloaf." Violet said picking at her plate with her fork.
"Well, it is leftover night. We have steak, pasta. What are you hungry for?" Helen names giving her daughter a smile.
"If I had known we had more pasta I wouldn't have had this steak." August mutters as he moves to put his wash his plate and utensils in the sink.
"Tony Rydinger." Dash teases his sister.
"More like Knock off Ken doll on crack or maybe he's suffering burn out too?" August mutters as he goes down the hall to the garage.
"SHut up!" Violet snaps at Dash glancing at her mom.
"Well, you are." Dash retorts.
"I said, shut up, you little insect!" Violet hisses as she points her fork menacingly at him.
"Well, she is." Dash says.
"Do not shout at the table. Honey!" Helen scolds them before calling out for her husband.
"Kids! Listen to your mother." Bob says off screen.
Helen huffs in annoyance and the family go back to eating dinner.
Dash pretends to sip from his cup, "She'd eat it i we were having Tony loaf."
Violet glares at him and throws down her fork, "That's it!" Violet tackles Dash across the table and onto the floor and they begin fighting until he gets loose and runs around the table.
He slaps Violet's head every time he passes her until she uses a forcefield to stop him effectively sending him to the floor.
"Ow! Hey, no force fields!" Dash snaps.
"You started it." Violet mocks back.
Dash goes to jump at her, but Helen stretches her arms to hold him and Violet in place.
"You sit down! You sit down! Violet!" Helen scolds her kids as they just move under the table to fight instead.
"Bob! IT'S TIME TO ENGAGE!" Bob hears Helen call out from the dining room.
Bob enters the living room and sees chaos.
**Meanwhile
August finished up making his new gun that switches between bullets and electric orbs when he shot them.
He places it down ignoring the chaos going on in the dining room.
He goes to work on a compactible staff and hover bike when he hears the door bell ring and it goes quiet in the living room.
August chuckles at how quickly the family manages to stop their tirade and goes back to working on his retractable staff.
He did street fighting in secret and knew he was going to need a weapon for sore losers who try to jump him afterward.
**
The family quickly goes back to their regular positions at the table except for Dash, who runs over to answer the door.
"Hey, Lucius!" Dash says before running back to his seat at the table and Helen stretches her arm to stop the light above them from swinging.
"Hey, Speedo! Hey, Helen. Vi, Jack-Jack, and August is missing in action." Lucius greets as the others give a nod and smile to him when their nickname is called.
"He-Hey! Ice of you to drop by." Bob teases.
Lucius let's a sarcastic laugh, "Ha! Never heard that one before." He said deadpanned.
"August is in the garage." Violet explains to Lucius.
"Inventing again huh?" He responds with a small chuckle as Violet gives a nod in affirmation.
"Should ask the kid to fix Honey's car, she's been having problems." Lucius told the family.
"Oh, Lucius!" Dash gurgles before spitting water in the air.
"Whoa!" Lucius freezes the spit shot and catches it with a proud "Aha"
"Aw... I like it when it shatters." Dash says sadly.
"I'll be back later." Bob tells Helen as he pushes Lucius out the door.
"Hey, where are you two going?" Helen asks.
"It's Wednesday." Bob says smiling at her over his shoulder.
"Oh. Bowling night. Say hello to Honey for me, Lucius." Helen says giving a wave goodbye.
"Will do. Good night, Helen. Good night, kids." Lucius manages to get out before the front door closes.
Helen looks to Dash who gives her a nervous smile in response.
"Don't think you've avoided talking about your trip to the principal's office, young man. Your father and I are still gonna discuss it." Helen told Dash as she goes back to her dinner.
"I'm not the only kid who's been sent to the office, you know." Dash says bitterly.
"Other kids don't have superpowers. Now, it's perfectly normal..." Helen says.
"Normal? What do you know about normal? What does anyone in this family know about normal?" Violet retorts.
"Now, wait a minute, young lady." Helen frowns trying to keep a level head.
"We act normal, mom! I wanna be normal! The only normal one is Jack-Jack, and he's not even toilet trained!" Violet snaps gesturing to the baby who was following along with the conversation.
Jack-Jack bursts into laughter at the thought of him normal.
"Lucky." Dash says bitterly causing the family to turn to him in confusion and disgust.
"I mean about being normal." Dash saves himself and looks at his mother awkwardly.
"Is the Chaos over?" They heard August call out as he enters the dinning room covered in a bit of grease.
"When Uncle Bob gets back can you tell him I fixed the car and Auntie Helen, I fixed the dryer so you don't have to dry the clothes on lines anymore." August said as he walks to the kitchen sink to wash his hands.
"Thank you, August." Helen said sadly, before looking at Violet who seemed to retreat back her shell as she stood and wrapped her plate.
Violet grabs August's arm and drags him back to their bedroom with her, obviously in a bad mood.
Helen looks down at the last two kids sitting at the table. Dash was finishing his steak and vegetables while Jack- Jack was looking at her as if to ask if she was okay.
Helen smiles lovingly at Jack-Jack and gets a piece broccoli from his hair.
"What a day this turned out to be." Helen said looking at a picture on the wall of August and his parents.
