After being on the road for a while, they decided to take a brief stop to rest. Yoongi sat on a nearby rock, his curiosity getting the best of him. "Where are we going?" he asked, looking up at Jungkook.
Jungkook glanced at him with a determined expression and said, "We're going home. I'm going to kill the prince. I don't want Jin to live like this any longer."
Yoongi's eyes widened in shock at the words. "Kill the prince? Does Jin know about your plan?" he asked, his voice edged with concern.
Jungkook's face hardened, and his voice turned cold. "No, he doesn't. And you won't tell him either, understood?"
Yoongi, despite the intensity of the situation, rolled his eyes in response. He had come to understand that, despite Jungkook's threats, he wasn't going to hurt him. Still, the thought of confronting the prince and the consequences of such a bold move sent a chill down Yoongi's spine.
Before he could say anything else, a sharp cry pierced the air. Both of them looked up, spotting a hawk circling overhead. Jungkook immediately stretched out his arm, his face softening as the hawk descended gracefully and landed on his forearm.
Yoongi sighed and stood up, stretching his aching body and arms. As he extended his arms out, the hawk suddenly flew off Jungkook's arm and gracefully landed on Yoongi's outstretched arm. Both of them were caught off guard, and Yoongi could feel the weight of Jungkook's sharp gaze.
Panicking slightly, Yoongi awkwardly moved his arm around, trying to coax the hawk to fly back to Jungkook. "Ahh, hehehe, I really don't know why he's doing that," Yoongi said nervously, his voice wavering. He feared Jungkook's reaction.
But instead of anger, Jungkook's stern expression softened into a smile. "It's okay," he said quietly, his eyes reflecting a strange mixture of sorrow and affection. "I envy you, Yoongi."
Surprised, Yoongi looked at him in confusion. "Envy me?"
Jungkook walked over and gently took the hawk back onto his own arm, his movements careful and deliberate. "You've spent time with Jin," he said, his voice tinged with sadness. "I'm not able to. Not in the way I want. It's been years since I could be with him like that."
Yoongi swallowed, the weight of the situation sinking deeper into him. He realized how truly heartbreaking this curse was for Jungkook, constantly near Jin, but never able to be with him fully.
As they were getting ready to continue their journey, they spotted a horse pulling an old carriage slowly approaching from the distance. As it drew closer, Jungkook's eyes widened in recognition. The man driving the carriage was the priest who had once been a part of their lives, the one who had performed his and Jin's wedding ceremony.
The old priest stopped the carriage and, with surprising agility for his age, hurried down and ran straight to Jungkook, embracing him tightly. He was slightly out of breath but managed to speak between gasps. "Thank God I found you. It's time to break the curse."
Jungkook gave him a small, sad smile, shaking his head. "What are you talking about, old man? You know as well as I do that the only way to break the curse is if one of us dies."
The priest placed a firm hand on Jungkook's shoulder, his face etched with seriousness and a glint of hope in his eyes. "No," he said, his voice steady. "I saw it in my dream. Day became night, and night and day existed at the same time."
"Did you lose your sanity, old man?" Jungkook snapped, irritation bubbling up as he prepared to dismiss the priest's words. He had long since stopped believing in the idea of hope when it came to this curse.
But the priest wasn't having it. "Listen to me, you stubborn donkey," he retorted, his voice firm and unyielding. "In exactly four days, the moon will cover the sun, and the day will turn to night. That's when you and Jin must stand together, both in your human form, in front of Prince Taehyung."
Jungkook hesitated, his expression torn between skepticism and curiosity. The priest's certainty was hard to ignore, yet the idea sounded so far-fetched.
"You're going back anyway, to kill the prince, right? In four days, if nothing happens, you can still kill him! To hell, I'll help you kill him!" the priest shouted, his desperation spilling over as he pleaded with Jungkook to believe him.
With Yoongi's help, they managed to convince Jungkook to at least try the plan, for Jin's sake. Reluctantly, Jungkook agreed, though the dark determination to kill the prince still simmered beneath the surface. The three of them continued their journey toward the castle, following the priest's instructions.
As night approached, they reached the edge of a frozen lake. The fastest way to the castle was to cross it, but with darkness falling, they decided to camp on the lake's shore. The cold wind howled around them, and Yoongi and the priest gathered near the small fire they had built, watching as Jungkook silently disappeared into the forest to prepare for his transformation.
Not long after, Jin returned, dressed in Jungkook's clothes, his footsteps quiet as he approached the camp. When his eyes fell upon the priest sitting next to Yoongi, he paused, surprise flickering across his face.
"Father?" Jin asked, his voice filled with disbelief.
The priest stood, his expression softening as he looked at Jin. "My boy," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "It's been too long."
They explained the plan to Jin, outlining the details of the priest's vision and the opportunity the eclipse would present. Jin listened carefully, his eyes reflecting a mix of disbelief and hope. When they finished, he looked at them with a lingering doubt.
"Has Jungkook agreed with the plan?" Jin asked cautiously, knowing all too well how stubborn his husband could be.
Both Yoongi and the priest nodded their heads in unison, their expressions reassuring. Yoongi added, "It took some convincing, but he's on board. He knows how much this means."
Jin's lips curved into a soft smile, his eyes glimmering with relief. "I'm surprised," he admitted, his voice warm. "Jungkook never backs down easily, but if he's willing to try, then maybe... maybe we have a real chance."
It was long past midnight when a chilling howl pierced the silence, waking them from their uneasy sleep. Startled, they sat up and listened intently, trying to make sense of the sound. More howling followed, mixed with yelping and the unmistakable sound of water splashing. They turned toward the lake, and in the pale moonlight, they saw the source, a wolf struggling desperately in the freezing water, trapped as it tried to climb out onto the breaking ice.
Jin's eyes widened in horror as the realization struck him. "Jungkook!" he shouted, his voice filled with panic. Without hesitation, he bolted toward the lake.
"Jin, wait! The ice is breaking!" Yoongi called out, his voice thick with urgency as he ran after him. But Jin didn't stop, his focus solely on Jungkook, who was sinking deeper into the freezing water.
As Yoongi ran faster, he saw Jin stumble and fall as the ice beneath him cracked but miraculously didn't break. Still, Jin pressed on, determined to reach the wolf. Yoongi's heart pounded in his chest as he pushed forward, reaching the edge of the breaking ice.
When he got close enough, Yoongi dropped to his belly, crawling slowly toward the struggling wolf. "Jin, don't come any closer!" he shouted, his voice firm. "The ice won't hold us both. I'll get him."
Jin, realizing the danger, nodded reluctantly and lay down on the ice, gripping Yoongi's legs tightly as he had been instructed.
Yoongi stretched his arms out, trying to grab hold of Jungkook's paws, but the wolf was frantic, his claws desperately scraping at the ice, slipping and plunging back into the freezing water with every failed attempt to pull himself out. Yoongi winced in pain as the sharp claws raked across his arms, leaving deep, burning gashes. But he gritted his teeth and didn't let go.
Finally, Yoongi managed to grab Jungkook firmly by the scruff of his neck, using every ounce of strength to pull him up and out of the water. With one last effort, he yanked the exhausted wolf onto the ice, collapsing beside him, both of them panting and shivering from the cold.
The priest hurried over, helping Yoongi to his feet and guiding him back to the shore, while Jin dragged the wolf carefully behind them. They were both soaked and trembling, but Jungkook was alive.
As the priest finished bandaging Yoongi's injured arms, he gave him a sharp smack on the head, causing Yoongi to flinch in surprise. "Next time, think before you act!" the priest scolded, his voice filled with both anger and concern. Despite the harsh words, the priest quickly wrapped warm blankets around Yoongi's shivering body, his actions full of care.
Yoongi chuckled weakly, wincing at the pain in his arms but understanding the priest's frustration. "I'll try," he muttered, grateful for the warmth that began to seep back into his chilled bones.
Once Yoongi was bundled up, he and the priest turned to look at where Jin and the wolf lay on the ground. They were wrapped tightly in blankets, huddled together for warmth. Jin's gentle hands stroked the wolf's fur, his touch soothing and calming as the wolf's labored breathing began to slow.
Jin's expression was soft, filled with tenderness as he murmured quietly to Jungkook, who lay beside him, clearly exhausted from the ordeal. Even in his wolf form, the connection between them was palpable, their bond unbreakable despite the curse that tore them apart. Jin's hands moved in slow, calming motions, his fingers brushing gently through the wolf's thick fur, offering comfort in a way only he could.
As the first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon, Yoongi's heart sank, knowing all too well what was about to happen. The sky brightened, and the shadows on the ground grew shorter, marking the approach of the inevitable.
Turning back to Jin and Jungkook, Yoongi's gaze softened with sorrow. He knew that no matter how hard they fought, the curse would continue its cruel cycle for now.
Jin lay next to Jungkook, his eyes filled with longing as he looked at the wolf. He wished with all his heart to see his husband's human face, just one more time, before he himself would turn into the hawk. Time was slipping away, and Jin could feel the shift approaching.
Jungkook, too, was transforming, his wolf form slowly giving way to his human body. His eyes were fixed on Jin, desperate to touch the face, of the man he loved, with his own human hands. As soon as his transformation was complete, he reached out quickly, his fingers aching to feel the warmth of Jin's skin.
But it was too late.
The beautiful human eyes that had looked at him just moments before were gone. In their place, the cry of a hawk pierced the morning air, sending a shiver through the silence. Jin's wings spread wide as he lifted from the ground, his hawk form soaring into the sky, leaving Jungkook behind, once again alone.
Yoongi watched the heartbreaking scene unfold, his chest tightening at the sight of Jungkook's hand still reaching out, now grasping at nothing but empty air. There was no comfort to offer in that moment, only the crushing reality of the curse that kept them apart.
Tears streamed down Yoongi's face as he stood there, heart heavy with sorrow. His thoughts raced, filled with anger and disbelief. Who could be so cruel, he thought, to utter such a horrible curse on two souls who did nothing but love each other?
He couldn't bear to look at the heartbreaking scene any longer, the love between Jin and Jungkook, so palpable and strong, yet endlessly torn apart by a merciless curse. It wasn't fair. It wasn't right.
Turning away, Yoongi wiped his eyes and reached for the priest's hand, gripping it tightly. "We have to help them," he said, his voice filled with urgency. "This isn't a life. No one should suffer like this."
The priest looked at Yoongi, his own face etched with sorrow. "I know, my boy. I know," he said softly. "We will do everything we can. The curse is strong, but love is stronger. We'll find a way."
They rested for a few more hours before setting off again toward the castle, the weight of the approaching moment heavy on their minds. Jungkook had already made up his mind, one way or another, in three days, the curse would end.
As they walked, Jungkook called Yoongi over. "Come sit," he said, his tone unusually soft. When Yoongi sat down beside him, Jungkook reached back to pull out his sword, but as he did, his elbow brushed against Yoongi's left arm. Yoongi yelped in pain, unable to suppress the sharp sting that shot through his body.
Jungkook turned, frowning. "What's wrong? I barely touched you."
Yoongi, trying to play it off, was about to say it was nothing, but the priest cut him off, his voice laced with frustration. "What's wrong? You're asking what's wrong?" The priest shot Yoongi a pointed glare. "This fool here saved a stupid wolf from drowning in the freezing lake—WITH HIS BARE HANDS!" he bellowed, slapping the back of Yoongi's head for emphasis, then making a threatening gesture toward him.
Jungkook's eyes widened, and without hesitation, he grabbed Yoongi's hands, carefully pushing up the sleeves of his coat. Beneath the fabric, he saw the blood-soaked bandages wrapped tightly around Yoongi's arms. His heart clenched at the sight.
Yoongi pulled his hands away quickly, tugging the sleeves back down. "It's not that bad," he mumbled.
Jungkook's hardened expression softened in an instant, and without a word, he pulled Yoongi into his arms, hugging him gently. "Do I need to teach you how to capture a wolf?" Jungkook teased, his lips brushing the top of Yoongi's head in an affectionate gesture.
With a small smile, Jungkook reached for his sword, the weight of it solid and reassuring in his hand.
Yoongi stared at the sword in his hands, then looked back at Jungkook, confused by the sudden gesture. "What's this about?" he asked, feeling the weight of the blade but not fully understanding the meaning behind it.
"This sword belonged to my grandfather," Jungkook began, his tone somber. He pointed to the first gemstone. "This is Jade, given to my grandfather by the late king. My grandfather passed it down to my father, and when I took over his position as the new general, my father gave it to me."
He turned the sword, showing Yoongi another stone. "This is Alexandrite, given to my father by the current king, King Namjoon. And this..." he pointed to the last stone, a sapphire gleaming in the light, "this was given to me by King Namjoon when I became general."
Jungkook's gaze shifted from the sword to the horizon, staring into the distance as if the memories were playing before his eyes. "I'm giving this sword to you," he said quietly.
Yoongi's head snapped up, his heart pounding. "What?" he nearly shouted, his voice full of disbelief. The sword wobbled in his trembling hands, and he almost dropped it. "Why? What are you doing?"
Jungkook smiled faintly at his reaction. "This sword represents the honor and bravery of my family. The stones... you could take them off, sell them if you need to. But the sword itself, it's a good sword. It will serve you well."
Yoongi stood abruptly, throwing the sword to the ground, his hands shaking. "I don't know what you're planning," he said, his voice breaking. "But if you're thinking of dying when we reach the palace, then you'd better kill Jin too. He won't want to live in a world without you."
The words cut through Jungkook, but deep down, he already knew they were true. He wouldn't want to live without Jin either. But his expression remained stoic as he took Yoongi's hands and held them gently.
"In three days, Jin and I will stand in front of the prince. But if the old man's vision was just a delusion, and the day doesn't turn into night... I will kill the prince. And I surely will die too." Jungkook's voice trembled slightly as he continued, "Yoongi, Jin will still be a hawk. I want you to end his suffering."
He held up a small dagger, one that Yoongi instantly recognized. It was the dagger Jin had held the first time they met in the forest.
Yoongi's eyes widened in shock, his mouth falling open. Tears began streaming down his face as the weight of Jungkook's words settled in. Without thinking, he slapped Jungkook's hands away, the dagger falling to the ground.
"You want me to kill Jin?" Yoongi shouted, his voice thick with disbelief and anger. His heart was shattering, torn between love and the horror of what Jungkook was asking him to do. "I hate you!" Yoongi screamed, his chest heaving with emotion. "How could you ask me to do that?"
Jungkook didn't move, the pain in Yoongi's words washing over him like a cold wave, but he understood. He had known this request would break Yoongi's heart, just as it was breaking his own.
In the castle, life continued in blissful ignorance of the past. It was as though General Jungkook and his fiancé had never existed, their names and stories lost to time. The kingdom thrived, untouched by the tragedy that had befallen the two lovers.
Prince Taehyung had married a beautiful woman, and their union was celebrated by the kingdom. She was now expecting their first child, and the anticipation of the royal birth filled the halls with excitement and joy.
Though life at the castle appeared serene, Prince Taehyung's heart had never truly moved on from Jin. Beneath the surface of his seemingly perfect marriage and impending fatherhood, his obsession with Jin remained. Every day, he hoped that the curse would be broken, not through any noble act, but by the death of Jungkook.
In the past five years, Taehyung had secretly collected dozens of black wolf furs, each one a bitter disappointment. None of them belonged to Jungkook's wolf. The prince had scoured the lands, sending out hunters with generous rewards for anyone who could bring him the fur of a black wolf. And though many had tried, none succeeded in ending the life of the man who stood between Taehyung and his twisted version of happiness. With every failed attempt, Taehyung's patience wore thinner, but his hope never wavered. He believed that, one day, Jungkook would fall, and Jin would be his at last.
Almost every night, Prince Taehyung found himself dreaming of Jin, but recently, the dreams had changed. No longer could he see Jin's face, only the familiar silhouette of the man he once desired. This absence in his dreams disturbed Taehyung deeply, leaving him increasingly moody and restless.
The following day, alarming news reached the castle, General Jungkook had been sighted. Though men had attacked him, hoping to claim the bounty on his head, Jungkook had swiftly killed them all. It was said that he was not alone, he was traveling with a young boy and an old priest.
King Namjoon, upon hearing this, was furious. His once trusted general had vanished for years, and now he was resurfacing under suspicious circumstances. The king gave an order, capture Jungkook alive. He wanted to hear from the man himself why he had deserted, why he had betrayed the kingdom.
But this news sent a wave of fear through Prince Taehyung. If his father, King Namjoon, were to speak with Jungkook, the truth of Taehyung's dark deeds, the curse he had placed on Jin and Jungkook, would surely be revealed. And that, Taehyung could not allow.
Desperate to stop this from happening, Taehyung summoned his trusted friend Jimin. Without hesitation, he gave Jimin a chilling order, "If Jungkook enters the castle, kill him before he can reach the king. He must not speak to my father."
Jimin, loyal as ever, nodded. He knew the stakes and would do whatever was necessary to protect the prince's secret.
