The next morning was when Mina properly introduced herself.
"Hi! You said your name was Kirishima, right?"
Kirishima nodded.
"Cool! My name is Mina!"
"It's uh. Nice to meet you." He said, copying what he had heard Sero say yesterday.
"So, I don't want to be rude about it or anything, but what's up with your teeth? I've never seen teeth like that. It's really cool!"
That wasn't true, she had seen plenty of teeth like that before, but she wanted to be sure she was right before she said to much. She had to be careful, or things could go south real fast.
He looked at her, very confused.
"I was born like that."
"No, why are they so pointy and sharp? "
"I don't.. Know?"
"He's a shifter, Pinky. I guess the teeth don't change when he does." Bakugou yelled across the room.
That's what she was looking for. Now she could spill!
"YAY! Me too! Well, kinda. Im like one fourth dragon at this point." There was a delighted gleam in her eyes.
"It's been a while since I've found anyone else like me! I'm so excited!!"
Kirishima smiled. 'A smile that put the freaking sun to shame,' Mina
" My Papaw was a dragon. That's why I'm pink and have horns. I can't shift or anything, though."
"Oh." He responded. He had never thought about it, although he was glad that she explained that the things on her head were horns. He was definitely wondering, but he didn't want to be rude to his new friend.
Bakugou looked completely shocked. A small 'oh shit' leaving his lips.
"You've known me for almost two years... Did you just never question it??" She started laughing, and the tips of Bakugou's ears tured red.
"Fucking, stay on topic, you bubble gum bitch!"
'Fiiiine' she turned back to the red haired boy.
"So how much do you actually know about your Dragon half?"
He thought for a moment before he said
"I'm a halfie.
I can shift.
I can summon scales to protect me. I'm not sure if summon is the right word, though.
I can eat almost anything.
It hurts if I don't shift enough.
Every now and then, I can breathe fire if I'm really happy.
I think that's all. Ooh and I like raw meat!"
"Who raised you? Cause they told you basically nothing!"
He shrugged. "Master did."
She froze. "Who? "
"The guy I was with before Bakugou. Master."
"Who would make you call them master?.... Well, you were in an illegal gladiator when we fou- OH."
She jumped forward, tackling him in a hug. "You poor thing! I knew we found you as a gladiator, but I didn't know you were - oh, I'm so sorry! "
After a moment, she slowly let go when she realized Kirishima wasn't actually hugging back and seemed a little uncomfortable. She sat down on the ground, patting beside her for him to do the same.
"I'll teach you everything I know. Feel free to ask any questions.
Hmm. Where should I start...."
Kirishima just stared back at her. He didn't know what he was supposed to know so he wouldn't be very helpful in figuring this out...
"Hmmmm, what did you say about your fire breath being only when you were happy or something?"
"Yeah, it's been years since I was able to do it otherwise."
"I think you might just be cold. It sounds like what happens when a baby has borderline hypothermia. If im right, then if you sleep in a fire for a few nights, you'll get your fire breath back!"
He stared.
"It's that simple?!" Come to think of it... he actually did feel kinda cold...
Later that night, after everyone was laying down, Kirishima thought about his day. And all the people he met and words he had said.
Yet despite Mina's instructions, instead of sleeping in the fire, that night as soon as Kirishima was sure Bakugou was asleep, he still crawled into the others bed, and slept next to his personal heater. Aka Bakugou.
He didn't know why, but he always felt infinitely safer there. And within five minutes, he was asleep.
