POV: Nicolas
I was in a dark room...
...
...surrounded by mutants...
...
...Doesn't seem easy to escape...
...
...I suddenly fight for my life...
...
...killing anything and everything in my path...
...
...Then the mutants turn back to humans...
...
...dead. It's too late. I killed them...
What have I done? I killed innocent people.
I suddenly drown from their blood. I couldn't escape.
I wake up with heavy breathing. I realize that it was just a dream. I've been having these dreams that I couldn't escape from for a while. It's been five years since the world reset, with only me to remember what happened. It was early morning. I was supposed to wake up an hour later and get ready.
I lay back and look at the ceiling. I close my eyes, trying to sleep again. I give up 2 minutes later and get out of bed. I boil the kettle and get dressed. The scars on my arms were still there. I don't think they'll ever disappear any time soon.
They remind me that what I've been through wasn't a dream. And that I killed a human and got away. It doesn't feel great. Hiding all this and knowing the real version on how those people died. I get dressed and brushed my hair. I then brushed my teeth before heading out of the room.
I took my bag and walked out. I went to the cafeteria and bought coffee and an oats bar. I walked to the table while eating my oats bar. I threw the wrapping in the dustbin and sat down. I looked on my phone at the messages and started replying to them. The only people in my contacts were Eva, Jake, Leo, and Iris, my roommate.
Eva messaged me and it said...
Hey Nic, I was wondering if you could join us today for some ice-cream some-time today. Please come.
I smiled, then replied to her message.
Sure thing. I just have to work today. Give me a time after 4?
She sends the location and send another message.
How does 5 sound?
I replied
Perfect.
I put my phone in my pocket and finish my coffee. I put the polystyrene cup in the dustbin and head out of the huge building. I drive to Sasani Studio and arrive before 8 am. I wait for them to open and then start setting everything up. I work with editing and script writing. And I help film when one of the members of the camera crew weren't present.
I do play a big part in the studio. I like being behind the camera doing the background work while the actors play on screen. I'm a terrible actor myself. And I come up with different stories for the director to pick. I write them on my free time, which is when I get home. I worked until 4 with a lunch break in between and studied for half an hour.
I drove to the location Eva sent me and got stuck in traffic for a while. I made it just before 5. I parked my car and entered the shop. As I went in, I spot Eva, Jake, and Leo talking and laughing. I came and sat down with them. I said after we greeted each other "Long time no see."
