Ash: Rosita, no!
Meena: Rosita, come on.
Gunter: Like, don't go!
Maddie: Rosita, please stay!
(Rosita walks out of the Moon Theater)
Mike: Psst. Hey, hey down here. (Rosita looks down) You see three nasty looking bears out there?
Rosita: Uh, no.
Mike: Oh, Great. Hey, by the way, I love your act. Seriously, the part where you fall flat on your face, that cracks me up every time. See ya round, Porky!
Johnny: And you give me all of you, oh oh. Aw, man.
Buster: Johnny, uh, I know I'm asking a lot of you...
Johnny: Mr. Moon and Miss. Moon, I'm really trying, I promise.
Pippa: Uh... what about your backup song? Have you practiced that?
Johnny: Um, no yet.
Buster: Well, why don't we go back and work on that one, okay? I mean, look, if you play like that in front of Nana Noodleman... (Johnny runs off) Johnny?
Monkey: Hey!
Big Daddy: We are set for life now, boys! (laughs) What's going on? Where's Johnny?
Stan: He's not here.
(police sirens are heard)
Big Daddy: (gasp)
Stan: Run!
Johnny: I'm dead.
Ash: (mumbling) Finally see it's not just a dream. When you set it all free, free. Okay, let me see here. (clears throat) When you set it all free, all free, all free...
Bison Prisoner: No, Mom. I have not made any friends. What do you think this is, kindergarten?
Crane Prisoner: If you hadn't squealed to the cops, I wouldn't be in here right now.
Crocodile Prisoner: I'm only gonna be in here for a few years.
Big Daddy: Where were ya?
Johnny: Um, well, thing is, I-I went -to get gas, and, um...
Big Daddy: Don't lie to me!
Johnny: Um, I was at a rehearsal.
Big Daddy: Rehearsal? For what?
Johnny: I was at a singing contest. Look, Dad, I'm... I'm sorry. I just don't wanna to be in your gang. I wanna be a singer.
Big Daddy: A singer?
Johnny: Look, dad, no, it's okay, it's okay. I can get the bail money. There's a prize-- it's $100,000... [Big Daddy slams the desk and the whole room is silenced]
Big Daddy: How did I end up with a son like you, eh? You're nothing like me. You never were, and you never will be.
Johnny: I'll get you out! Dad, wait! I'll get the money! I promise!
(Johnny is about to steal the chest when the lights turn on. He looks over to see Pippa leaning against the door frame)
Pippa: What do you think your doing?
Johnny: What are you doing here?
Pippa: I live here because my dad can't afford a house. Now answer my question.
(Johnny stutters, finding it hard to find an excuse.)
Pippa: Johnny.
Johnny: I was... trying to steal the prize money
Pippa: Why not try to win it instead?
Johnny: Because my dad is in jail and I need the money to bail him out. I didn't mean any harm. I just want him to be proud of me.
Pippa: (Sighing) There's an honest way to make money and this isn't it.
Johnny: I know.
Pippa: So, allow me to help you.
Johnny: How?
Pippa: You're not exactly Mozart. I'll teach you how to play piano and hopefully win this competition.
(Pippa takes him to the piano)
Johnny: You know how to play?
Pippa: Of course. I usually play during musical rehearsals.
(Pippa plays a few notes and Johnny copies her before she lets him continue on his own. Johnny goes off-track and starts playing the notes of a love song. Pippa caught on and started to play with him. The song was 'Something Stupid' which the two start to sing)
Both: I know I stand in line until you think you have the time to spend an evening with me and if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance, you won't be leaving with me and afterwards we drop into a quiet little place and have a drink or two and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you." I can see it in your eyes that you despise the same old lies you heard the night before and though it's just a line to you, for me it's true and never seemed so right before. I practice every day to find some clever lines to say to make the meaning come through. But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late and I'm alone with you. The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red and, oh, the night's so blue and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you."
(They play through the instrumental part of the song while Pippa leans her head against Johnny's shoulder. He looks at her and smiles, leaning his head on hers. But they sit up straight when the next verse comes on. Buster had been woken up by the duet and watched from the open door, making sure not to be seen)
Both: The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red and, oh, the night's so blue and then I go and spoil it all by sayin' something stupid like "I love you." I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.
(They smile up at each other and lean against each other, lovingly. Buster just smiles and leaves the two alone)
PA announcer: Shoppers are reminded the store will close in 15 minutes. Thank you.
Rosita: (yawns)
PA announcer: The lady in aisle six. That was awesome. (applauds, whistles)
Meena: Mr. Moon, are you sure this is legal?
Buster: Uh, I don't know. But if you keep asking questions, we'll never get this done. (grunts) Now, hit it! Oh!
Maddie: Ah!
Buster: A little higher. There it is! Thank you!
Waiter: Hey!
Buster: Posters up!
Waiter: You...
Buster: Now, run away!
Meena: (screaming)
Waiter: Come back here, you vandals!
Norman: Rosita, have you seen my car? Whoa! Rosita? What the... What's going on? Rosita! Kids. Where's Mommy?
All: (screaming)
Johnny: Phew! How's that, Pippa?
Pippa: (snoring)
Maddie: Hey!
Pippa: (shocked) OH!
Meena: Sorry! Mr. Moon would like everyone to meet backstage before she arrives.
Ash: When you set it all free, all free, all free, you set it all free.
Buster: Wow. You wrote that?
Ash: Uh, yeah. Do you like it?
Buster: Are you kidding? It's fantastic! You've got to sing that today!
Ash: (happy)
Buster: Mike, you're on first.
Mike: Sure. (phone ringing) Just a second here. Honey, I'm busy. What? I can't hear you.
Pippa: Rosita and Gunter, you're on after Mike.
Rosita: You got it, boss.
Gunter: Rosita! (laugh) Super cool! You've, like, totally come back!
Buster: Okay, Johnny, you follow them.
Johnny: What? Oh, yeah. I'm ready. Yeah, yeah.
Pippa: Ash, you're...
Ash: After Johnny. Got it.
Buster: Maddie, you are after Ash.
Pippa: And Meena. Last chance, kid. You wanna join these guys out there today?
Meena: I would... I just get so scared.
Buster: Sure, you do. But you know how to get over that, right?
Meena: Uh, no.
Pippa: You just start singing! Do what you love, then you'll be great, 'cause you won't be afraid anymore, because you'll actually be doing it. Right?
Meena: Uh...
Buster: Look, do you love to sing? I mean, do you really love it?
Meena: Of course I do.
Pippa: Then you face this head on, Meena. Look, it's like my grandfather always said, "Don't let fear stop you from doing the thing you love."
Meena: Uh... Okay, I'll do it.
Buster: Great!
Miss Crawly: Mr. Moon and Miss. Moon! She's here!
Buster: Nana!
Nana: Oh! Do not even think of embracing me.
Pippa: You got it. Eddie, please show your nana to the royal box.
Nana: Oh for heaven's sake! I'm perfectly capable of walking.
Eddie: You nervous?
Buster: Are you kidding? (laughs) I'm absolutely terrified.
Bear Thug #3: Boss, that's his car, isn't it? Right there!
Bear Leader: Pull over.
Ms. Crawly: Lapsang souchong, courtesy of Mr. moo... moo... (sneezes)
Nana: Wonderful.
Mike: H-honey, honey, the show is starting, all right? I-I can't talk now. I gotta go. Of course I love ya. You think I'd buy you diamond earrings if I didn't...
Bear Leader: Where is my money?
Mike: Okay, okay, listen, listen, I just, uh... I just maybe kind of, uh, spent it all. You know? No, no, no, please, please, wait! I'll give you the money. I'll-I'll get you... I'll get you $100,000!
Bear Leader: Where are you going to get that kind of money?
Mike: Moons! Okay? Both of the Moons' got my money.
Bear Leader: Who are these Moons?
Pippa: All creatures great and small, welcome to the moon theater. I am your host, Pippa Moon and my dad Buster Moon, and... Okay. Behold! The very first stage lit entirely by... Squid power. Yeah! Beautiful work, guys. Now just follow us on the beat. And as you can see, this is no ordinary theater. This is a palace of wonder and magic.
