"Pick a card! Any card!" Himiko said in a mysterious voice, holding out a deck of cards to Kokichi. It was a dark and rainy day, and the two were stuck inside the house trying to stave off the boredom. Himiko decided to entertain Kokichi with her magic.
"Okaaay...I'll choose...this one!" Kokichi said, pulling out a card, making sure to keep it facing down.
"Now...peek at your card, but don't let me see it," Himiko said. Kokichi peeked at his card and groaned in frustration.
"Awww...I wanted the ace of spades, but I got the three of hearts, insteeaaad," he whined.
"HEY!!! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SAY IT OUT LOUD!!" Himiko yelled.
"Nee-heehee...that was a lie!" Kokichi snickered. Himiko pouted at him.
"Stop that!" she huffed.
"Sorry! Sorry!" Kokichi replied with a cheeky grin. He placed the card back onto Himiko's deck. "Okay, you can go ahead and guess my card, Himipotamus!" Himiko began expertly shuffling her cards. Kokichi smiled with excitement.
"Nyeeeeh...is this your card?" Himiko asked, pulling out a two of clubs.
"Ugh...no," Kokichi replied with a frown. Himiko tried again.
"Is this your card?" Himiko asked, pulling out a two of hearts.
"No, again," Kokichi mumbled, poking his bottom lip out. Himiko tried once more.
"Nyeh...is this your card?!" she asked for the final time, showing Kokichi a ten of diamonds. He stared at her with disappointment.
"Seriously, Himiko?" he asked. "That's not my card, either!" Himiko hung her head in shame.
"I guess I'm not a good enough mage, after all," she mumbled sadly. Kokichi eyed her curiously.
"Are you lying?" he asked as a small smile began to creep across his face. Himiko looked up at him with a small, mischievous smile of her own.
"Nyeh...why don't you check your sleeve and find out?" she answered. Kokichi eagerly checked his sleeve and found Kokichi's card, the king of hearts, inside.
"Whoooaaaaaa!! That was so cool, Himiko!" he exclaimed, wrapping her arms around her. "You truly are magical, Monkey Buns!"
"You got that right," Himiko said. Kokichi gave her a big, wet smooch on her cheek. "Ew, gross," Himiko said, wiping it off.
"Hey! Don't wipe it off, woman!" Kokichi pouted, grabbing Himiko's wrists to keep her from wiping it off. Himiko giggled as she and Kokichi began to wrestle with Himiko's arm. As they did, Shuichi walked into the living room and sat down on the couch, heaving an exhausted sigh. He picked up the remote and turned the TV on.
"What's the matter, Shuichi?" Himiko asked.
"Yeah! You look like 50 miles of bad road!" Kokichi added. "Nee-heehee...did someone kick your asphalt, Shuichi?"
"No," Shuichi sighed as he mindlessly flipped through the channels. "I've been up all night trying to solve a case I've been working on. I don't think I'm getting anywhere. I think I just need a break."
"Nyeh...do you wanna play my magic card game with me and Kokichi?" Himiko offered.
"Thanks, Himiko, but I think I just...wanna watch TV," Shuichi replied drowsily. He yawned deeply and plopped his head onto his hand. His eyes began to grow heavy. Kokichi and Himiko stared at him as his eyes began to droop.
"If you're so sleepy, why don't you just take a nap?" Kokichi asked.
"Because...ugh...if I sleep now, I'll just waste more time," Shuichi answered, shaking his head vigorously to wake himself up. His eyelids began to droop again as he flipped through more channels until Kokichi stopped him on one.
"SHUICHI, WAIT!! STOP RIGHT THERE!!" he screamed. Kokichi's scream startled Shuichi so much that Shuichi's eyes flew wide open and he accidentally launched the remote into the air.
"Huh?! What?! Who?! Why?! W-What's going on?!" he asked in alarm.
"It's 'What's New, Scooby-Doo! '" Kokichi exclaimed. He and Himiko stood up as the theme song came on, and they both started dancing and singing.
"What's new, Scooby-Doo? We're comin' after you! You're gonna solve that mystery! I see you, Scooby-Doo! The trail leads back to you! What's new, Scooby-Doooo? What's new, Scooby-Doo? We're gonna follow you! You're gonna solve that mystery! We see you, Scooby-Doo! We're comin' after you! What's new, Scooby-Doooo?" they shouted over the song.
"Don't look back! You may find another clue!" Himiko said.
"The Scooby Snax will be waiting here for you!" Kokichi finished.
"What's new, Scooby-Doo? We're comin' after you! You're gonna solve that mystery! I see you, Scooby-Doo! The trail leads back to you! What's new, Scooby-Doooo! Na-na-na-na-na! Na-na-na-na-na! Na-na-na-na-na-na-naaa! Na-na-na-na-na! Na-na-na-na-na! What's new, Scooby-Doooo!" With a final head-bang, Kokichi and Himiko finished the song while Shuichi stared at them, completely baffled.
"Nee-heehee...what's the matter, Shuichi? Does that song not speak to your dark, emo soul?" Kokichi teased.
"W-Well...it's just that...I didn't know you two liked Scooby-Doo so much," Shuichi replied, scratching his head.
"Nyeh...Kokichi and I watch Scooby-Doo if we want a good mystery and a good laugh," Himiko explained.
"Yuppers!" Kokichi agreed. "So, what's your favorite rendition of Scooby-Doo, Shuichi?"
"U-Um...well...to be honest, I've never watched a single episode of Scooby-Doo in my life," Shuichi admitted with a sheepish blush. Kokichi and Himiko's eyes bugged out of their skulls.
"What?! How are you a detective...and you've NEVER WATCHED SCOOBY-DOO IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE?! FOR AS LONG AS THAT SHOW HAS BEEN ON THIS PLANET?! YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN ANY OF THE MOVIES?!" Kokichi exclaimed, throwing his arms up in disbelief.
"Ah, well, I'm pretty sure Kyoko's never watched Scooby-Doo, either, and she's a detective," Shuichi pointed out with a timid shrug.
"Well, that makes sense because Kyoko doesn't look like the type of person who'd ever watch cartoons for fun!" Kokichi also pointed out.
"And I do?! " Shuichi asked in surprise. Kokichi tapped his chin in thought.
"Hmmm...no...you'd like the type of person who'd cry every time he runs out of black nail polish and guyliner," Kokichi said with a smart-alecky grin before bursting out into laughter and slapping his knees. Shuichi sighed and rolled his eyes.
"I've always been too busy to watch cartoons, anyways, Kokichi," he mumbled.
"Nyeh...how about you watch this one episode of 'What's New, Scooby-Doo' with us?" Himiko asked.
"Yeah! Besides, you need to move on from Blue's Clues, anyways! You're too old for that, Shuichi!" Kokichi joked.
"I-I don't watch 'Blue's Clues! '" Shuichi replied in a defensive manner.
"Okay, okay! Jeez, I was only joking, Mr. Sensitive," Kokichi smirked. Shuichi sighed.
"I'll watch only this episode, and that's it!" he said sternly. "I seriously have to get back to solving my other case, soon, anyways."
"Okie-dokie!" Kokichi replied. "This is a good episode where a golden retriever's puppies go missing, so you'd better not fall asleep!"
"O-O-Okay...I won't," Shuichi yawned. Kokichi and Himiko leaned against the couch as Kokichi wrapped his arm around Himiko. They were so intent on watching that they didn't notice that Shuichi had fallen asleep.
"And after he promised us he wouldn't fall asleep! That liar!" Kokichi huffed after the show ended and they turned to see Shuichi asleep. He was curled up on the couch with his back facing towards the TV.
"What a pain," Himiko sighed, shaking her head. "I understand how he feels, though. Solving mysteries sounds too tiring. Well, I guess we'll have to wait until next time to turn him into a Scooby-Doo convert." Kokichi looked at Himiko with a mischievous grin.
"Why wait until next time?" he asked.
"Nyeh? Because...there's no more Scooby-Doo shows on for the rest of the day?" Himiko answered in confusion. "Tomorrow, we'll get another chance with 'Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo.'"
"But, we can get Shuichi to like Scooby-Doo right now! " Kokichi exclaimed as an evil, excited grin formed across his face.
"But, how?" Himiko asked. Kokichi wrapped his arm around Himiko's shoulders.
"With your magic, of course!" he replied, lightly pinching her cheek. "What better way to introduce Shuichi to Mystery Inc. than by actually meeting them in person?" Himiko's eyes widened with realization.
"Nyeh...you're right!" she said.
"Sooo...get wit' it, Monkey Buns!" Kokichi cheered. Himiko nodded as she pressed her palms together. As she pulled her hands apart, her Guardian Mage staff appeared. She cleared her throat and raised her staff above her.
"Magical box of moving pictures, open your iridescent screen! Take us on a journey with Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Machine! Eee-hee-hee-hee-heeeeeee!!!" Himiko's high-pitched, witchy laughter echoed through the living room as a magical wind began to blow, and magical lightning flashed all around them. The glow of the TV screen became a portal as a magical energy formed around Himiko, Kokichi, and the sleeping Shuichi. Then, their bodies turned into streams of energy that zipped straight into the TV, and were sent hurtling towards, yet, another adventure.
