"Remember guys, All of your assignments have been posted in announcements. All assignments are due Sunday at 11:59, I will not reopen any pass due assignments seeing as you all have ample time to complete them. With that being said, class is dismissed." Professor Banks waved her small wrinkly hand, her thin lips twisting up in a way that just made Capri look with utter distaste.
Gathering his belongings Capri quickly made his way to the exit of the lecture hall. His usual mug set in place.
"Hate her old pruny ass, got the nerve to act like that knowing she only one heartache from meeting god himself." Capri rolled his eyes, hiking his bookbag further up his right shoulder.
"I'm saying, at this point I thought she was just being a bitch cause she's damn near 80 still working but I'm starting to think it's cause she ain't had no dick or pussy in 30+ years." Furrowing his eyebrows Capri turned his head only to be met with a beautiful girl.
Her skin velvety smooth and the prettiest shade of brown. Her black hair blown out in big ringlets that framed her round face. Capri took a second to admire the woman in front of him, he could definitely see her as the type of woman he settled down with.
"Unt unt, I know that look and I hate to break it to ya bud however I'm happily into the girls." She side eyed Capri even going as far to make a V with her fingers and flick her tongue between them.
In the span of 5 minutes Capri experienced so many emotions he was honestly ready to check out for the day. Licking his lips he slowly nodded his head.
"Now that that's cleared up, Hi my names is Alore. I realized this is probably a weird way to introduce myself but I'm new here and we both had Prof Banks." She rumbled, tucking a few strands of hair behind her left hair before pushing her hands into the pockets of her oversized jeans.
Cap blinked a few times, trying to think about what Greg always preached to him. 'Quit glaring at everybody, you actually need more friends than me and Mei.'
"Name's Capri, what's your major?" He tilted his head watching as the girl animatedly lit up, a pretty smile pulling at her lips.
"I'm a fashion design major, what about you?" Alore glanced towards Cap as they walked out of the building and through one of the many paths to the front of the school.
"Business, the shit ain't as easy as everyone as makin' it seem. I honestly think it's just the profs I got a problem with." Alore nodded along, she could understand what that felt like especially considering her past college experience.
The two spent time chatting a bit more and eventually exchanged socials and numbers. Capri felt a sense of pride in himself,
I couldn't wait to tell Greg to suck his dick for calling him a no friend having nigga. Cause this nigga officially had a friend outside of the starter options he currently had.
Of course Harlem didn't count in that, he wasn't a friend. Capri wasn't sure what the hell he was but he damn sure wasn't a friend.
Climbing into his older Honda accord Capri immediately turned his heat on and started to rub his hands together trying to retain some typa warmth. After about a minute or so he pulled out his phone and quickly tapped on his mothers call icon.
"Hey baby, you outta class?"
Eleni's smooth voice poured over the line, Cap relaxed his his ma's voice. "Hey ma, yea I'm outta class how's lil head? I was gonna stop somewhere and get food for y'all."
"He's good, baby. Watching that tablet like a hawk, we only had an uh oh when it died but your daddy took him outside for a walk and he seemed fine after that."
Capri hummed, he didn't like the fact that even since he introduced that tablet it was all sonnet wanted to focus on. He definitely needed to start weaning him off so much screen time and more into the exercises his doctor asked him to do.
"Okay baby, I'll see you when you get here. Drive safely."
Eleni hummed hanging up the phone. Cap immediately when to play some music before pulling out of his college's parking lot and heading towards the shop.
Pulling into the busy plaza Capri quickly found a park and headed inside the full shop. Smelling nostalgic hair products and incenses, voices from all over raised to greet him.
"I know that ain't lil Malik!"
"My goodness Eleni that boy is handsome."
Biting his lips into his mouth Capri gave everyone a closed mouth smile, he hated coming in here. All these people did was compared him to his parents and he couldn't stand it.
Tucking his hands into his pockets he gave a small smile to his mother, she took a break from curling some woman's hair to give him a small kiss on his cheek. "Your boy is in the back with your daddy."
Nodding his head Capri made his way back there, as soon as he open the door he was met with his daddy knocked out in his classic brown recliner with fats on his lap glued to his tablet.
Capri shook his head but not before taking a picture of the two.
"Shoulda known yo granddaddy only came back his for a nap." Capri spoke, making Sonnet look up and immediately start whining with his little arms stretched upward.
Malik snapping himself awake and looking around with a confused look until his eyes met his son's. Rolling his eyes and smacking his lips Malik turned on his side the second Cap picked Sonnet up.
"Turn that light off on your way out too, tell ya momma I'm working on paperwork." Malik added making Capri smile and shake his head.
He knew Eleni would come drag his ass back to the front for sleeping during work hours.
"You hungry fats?" Cap mumbled, kissing Sonnet chubby cheeks a few times before walking out into the front again.
"That's his baby?"
"Whose white baby is that?"
Capri's face immediately started to sour hearing someone's loud ass momma discuss his baby. He knew then he had to get his ass out of his parent's shop before he lost them some customers and got himself locked up.
"Alright ma, me and fats gonna head home." Cap stopped by his momma's station for the last time, watching as she rapidly braided a young boy's hair. Her fluffy Afro kissing the tops of her shiny brown shoulders.
"Okay baby, is your daddy still back there? I know his no good ass back there sleepin', ain't he?" Eleni looked at her oldest, letting her deep dark eyes pierce into his soul and let the answers spill out.
"Ion know nothing about da drooling all over that paperwork he said he was working on. That's all I can tell ya ma." Cap thinned his lips staring back into her eyes until a pleased smile crossed her face.
"Thank you baby, I'll make your favorite tonight." Eleni patted his cheek with her free hand before telling her client she'll be right back.
Capri grinned hurriedly leaving the shop with Sonnet's bag dangling off his arm. Fastening his son into his car seat Capri climbed in himself and started their short journey home.
Mid way through One In A Million by Aaliyah Harlem's contact flashed over Capri's screen. Staring for a minute he wet his lips, picking his phone up and slowly tapping his thumb over green button.
"Hey. You busy, took you a second to answer."
Cap blew out a breath he didn't know he was holding, Harlem's deep voice never failed to make his stomach twist for some reason. He could listen all day.
"Nah I was driving, Whatchu up to today?" Capri cleared his throat, glancing in his review mirror to see Sonnet staring out into nothing with one hand rubbing his thigh in his normal stimming pattern and the other reached up into his hair no doubt pulling at it.
"Hey, getcha hand out yo head fats. You gon end up like ya aunt, big headed 'n bald." Cap slightly rose his voice making Sonnet look at him and stare while still doing his action.
Capri took a deep breath remembering that Sonnet didn't understand and he needed his dad to be a calm and guiding figure.
"Oh lil man with you? Tell him I said Hi,
I ain't have no plans today, just hopin I could come chill with you." Capri looked away from Sonnet and back to the road rolling his tongue underneath his two front teeth trying to identify what these emotions were.
"Sonnet in his own lil world right now, Whatchu wanna do if we meet up? I got shit ton of work to do." Capri hummed pulling into his driveway and putting his car in park. Closing his eyes he focused on Harlem's voice.
"We can just chill at my place, you can do yo lil work and imma play the game or some shit. I just want yo company." Harlem voice seeping through the speakers in the best way possible, they tickled a place in Capri's ears that had never been reached.
The entire time Capri just considered why he had a whole nigga sweet talking him and he was liking the shit.
"You gon pick me up?" Cap fought off a grin, he didn't even know why he was smiling.
"You already know imma pick you up, pa. Why you even askin that?"
Capri rolled his eyes finally letting his smile win, glancing at Sonnet who had put himself to sleep still pulling at his hair. "Cause nigga how imma assume you gon pick me up every time we link?"
"I already know yo ass not driving over here, and ion want you driving over here anyway when it's fixing to get dark." Harlem spoke like it was common knowledge, he knew that he only lived like 15-20 minutes away but he wasn't gonna make Cap drive out when he was full capable of picking him up and taking him home.
"Nigga I'm a grown ass man. We sell on the same corner and you talmbout youn want me driving after dark. You ain't my daddy." Cap frowned, his lips curling up.
There was a minute of silence before Capri picked up on the deep rumbling of Harlem's laughter. He swallowed, rubbing his lips together patiently waiting to see what he was gonna say.
"You gon let that mouth get you into trouble."
Cape squinted his eyes, looked to his left as if to avoid Harlem's words. His heart spiking, he continued to rub and bite his lip.
"Whatever. When you coming to get me?" Cap finally spoke up again, unplugging his phone and gathering his shit before getting out the car with his phone pressed to his ear via his shoulder.
Struggling, he helped Sonnet out as well, holding his little hand on top of trying to carry everything else into the house.
"I'm puttin' on sweats rn. You ate?"
Making it inside Capri waddled to his bedroom releasing Sonnet's hand and dropping everything on the floor so he could catch his breath. He put Harlem on speaker so he could sort everything, in an attempt to stay organized.
"Nah, I was gonna stop but I decided against it. My ma gon cook tonight." Harlem didn't say anything for a minute until he suddenly spoke in Spanish to which Ms Paola responded distantly.
"I know damn well you ain't just ask her to make me food." Capri rolled his eyes now full on grinning knowing he was about to tear up her delicious cooking.
"Again, you know Imma feed you when you're with me. When you gonna stop acting brand new, Pa?" Harlem huffed, making Capri roll his eyes even harder this time.
Who does this nigga think he is?
"Nigga bye. Tell me when-"
"Cap you home? Where my nephew?" Heaven's voice rang out before his door busted open. She walked right in making Capri's lips part and his brows furrow deeply.
She glanced up look at him with that annoying ass smile that only the youngest sibling could have.
"Oh who you on the phone with? I just got done talking to Greg and he's with Mei and I know yo mean ass ain't got no other friends." She talked walking over to Sonnet who actually let her touch the tips of his braids.
"Who's that?"
Heaven's eyes grew like two saucers her big lips making a little beak before she started trying to break her neck seeing who Capri was talking to.
"Ooh he sound fine as hell. Capri now why you holdin' out on me? Lemme see." She whined, Capri blinked a few times regaining himself.
"Girl if you don't get yo stiff wig, extended back, pigeon toed, lifting lace having ass the fuck outta my room imma embarrass ya ass. Bustin' here like you the fuckin feds. Get the fuck out." Capri voice rose making Sonnet run over to him and cling tightly to his sweatshirt. Heaven rolled her eyes hard turning around to leave.
"Damn, I needed her to watch fats til my folks got back." He mumbled making Harlem chuckle a little, he couldn't say he was surprised hearing Capri talking like that.
He knew his pa had a mouth on him, he was just trynna see if it could be put to a better use.
"Gon 'n apologize then ask her." Harlem spoke, the sound a car door closing coming from his end. Capri side eyed his phone, like hell he was finna apologize.
"You lost me at the apology but I'll go ask her. Call me when you outside."
"Aight, see you in a minute pa."
"Get here safe, ain't nobody trynna see yo light ass laid up in the hospital." Capri mumbled before hanging up. He sighed, making his way to Heaven bedroom.
She was laying on her bed, feet kicking back in forth as she chilled on her stomach. "Get out." She mimicked, trying to copy Cap's mug but she only achieved a look somewhere between constipation and confusion.
"Man chill with the theatrics, I need you to watch fats til ma get here." He waved his hand, tilting his head. He knew she's agree but it was just like her to fuck with him.
"Imma need 20." She blinked holding on her hand, Cap glanced down and stared for a second before laughing and walking out her room. His phone buzzing letting him know that Harlem was outside.
He came back with Sonnet and his tablet, setting him on her bed. "I'll see you later, lock up when I leave and call me if anything happens. I love you." He leaned forward and kissed both of their foreheads before leave out her room to grab his school bag.
Walking out his house Cap pushed down his smile seeing Harlem leaning against his car with that beautiful smile stretched across his face.
Cap caught himself admiring the man before him. He was only dressed in simple grey sweats and a white tee but Cap could see his thick gold chain peeking from underneath. Harlem was the epitome of 90's fine in that moment.
"Got me waiting on yo ass, hm?" He lifted his brow lightly biting his bottom lip. Capri only looked away avoiding those piercing eyes as he started to get in the car followed by Harlem.
Harlem played with his phone for a minute or two before glancing over at Cap. He frowned, "fasten yo seatbelt. Why you keep making me tell you that? When you get in here fasten that shit, yea?" Harlem's voice lowered making Capri look at him with slightly parted lips. He nodded and quickly moved to fasten his beat, leaning back in his seat he watched Harlem maneuver the car out of his driveway and down the road.
The ride was quiet until a particular song started to play. At Your Best by Aaliyah filled the car making Cap start to nod his head.
Harlem glanced over wetting his lips before focusing on the road, he couldn't help but feel like Aaliyah's spirit was playing with him.
"Let me know." Cap hummed lowly, looking over at Harlem who was just stealing glances. They stared for a second before Capri cleared his throat and glanced away.
Capri rubbed his lips together he felt like that scene from ATL, and he couldn't help but wish it ended the same way. Before he could even sink deeper into his thoughts Harlem pulled into his own driveway.
"C'mon ma made a feast."
