Dino moved through the center bored and aimless. He had to watch where he was going because it was too easy to have someone slide through him. The poor cat he was currently pestering was nowhere to be found and he didn't have anything else to do. He couldn't talk to anyone and there were no other ghosts in the center that he was aware of. Not that he thought that meant anything, there seemed to be many things he wasn't aware of, like his family.
He didn't remember having a family. He didn't remember not having a family. He didn't even remember his name, so he didn't trust much of anything. What he did trust was that the Hybrid Center was where he needed to be. He felt like this was where he was supposed to be. This was home.
He did have a name now, at least. Naming him after the dog on the flintstones might be a bit much, but it did make him laugh, the cat was funny. Scaring him was hilarious. He smiled at the thought.
As he moved through the center he noticed that the empty space had moved again. Of all the weird things about being dead, this was the one that bothered him the most. It floated around but he could never see anything inside it. If there was a chair in the room, the space would fill it and the chair would disappear, but once the space moved, he could see it again. He had no idea what to make of the phenomenon.
He used to follow the space trying to figure out what it was, but never could, so he eventually stopped trying to analyze it and left it to its own devices. It didn't bother him so he didn't bother it.
He floated up to the roof where he could look down at the street and see if he could spot his missing friend walking around. At this height, he could see for several blocks around. He saw the hybrid children playing. He could see people walking around. He noticed several humans who crossed the street to avoid the center.
Dino scoffed. Silly humans, always so judgemental. He shook his head and continued watching the streets.
A couple of blocks away, he could see a beautiful young male walking towards the center. He had black hair with patches of white and brown on his ears... ah, he must be a Persian cat of some kind. Before he could look away, a nondescript van drove next to the cat and suddenly opened the door and four men reached out and grabbed the young man and pulled him in before driving away.
He looked helplessly at the van driving away. Another hybrid was taken by force. When he first was dead, he tried to do something but soon learned that nobody could hear him call out. Nobody could respond to him. It made him so sad.
"Hey stop the van. They took someone, stop that van!" someone was shouting. Heads turned but nobody did anything. He could see a young man running after the van and realized it was his panther. Jungkook ran hard after the van and he shook his head. Didn't he realize he'd be kidnapped too?
He had to stop him and the next thing he knew, he was standing next to the panting panther who had stopped to catch his breath, worn out by the run.
"That was foolish, they would have kidnapped you too," he told Jungkook.
The panther was startled but gave him a dirty look, "What? Just accept that a hybrid got kidnapped in broad daylight?"
"No, but running after it was still foolish. Did you get the plate number?" he asked.
"Yes," Jungkook said, breathing hard.
"Then let's tell the Center and they can make a report. It'll mean more coming from them."
Jungkook nodded and ran back to the center.
Dino flashed back to the center and Jungkook was surprised to find him standing in the doorway.
"Dino, do you always move so quickly?"
He looked himself over and realized that he had left the center for the first time. "I guess so. I just have to think about being someplace and I'm there."
Jungkook shook his head, "Well, let's make that report and then we've got to talk."
He followed the cat to a room that was filled with empty spaces and disappearing chairs. Confused, he watched Jungkook report the incident. To his surprise, papers moved, a phone call was made and a report seemed to be filed, but he couldn't hear anything coming from the empty space, but it was clear Jungkook could.
"Thank you for believing me," Jungkook told the empty space, and then he nodded and turned and left the room. He stood for a moment, watching the room, trying to see what Jungkook clearly could, and sighed when nothing appeared. He followed Jungkook out.
Dino found Jungkook waiting for him out in the hall watching him. "Did you see them?" Jungkook asked.
"Who?" confused he looked at Jungkook.
"The men in that room, did you see them?" Jungkook watched him with a very intense look.
"I didn't see anyone else in that room but you," he told him.
"Maybe that's been the problem all along. Come on, I have something to show you," Jungkook beckoned him to follow.
Back in Jungkook's room, he held out a photo, "Here, look at this."
Dino could only shake his head, "I can't pick it up, can you lay it down on the table?"
"Oh, sorry, here," Jungkook laid on the table and moved out of the way so he could look at it better.
Moving closer, he looked at the picture and saw that it had fuzzy empty spaces surrounding a middle figure. That middle figure looked familiar.
"That's me, in the middle, isn't it?" he looked at Jungkook.
"Yes, do you see the four others in that picture?" Dino just stared.
"No, I only see empty spaces," his forehead scrunched up as he stared hard at the picture but it just wasn't clearing up.
"They live. They miss you terribly." Jungkook whispered. He got up and pointed to each space on the picture. This one with curly hair and a big smile is Onew. He's the oldest and a bunny hybrid. He helps Miss Kay run the center. He's kind, thoughtful, and takes his job seriously.
Dino stared at the empty space Jungkook pointed at and tried to remember. Reaching deep inside, he tried to find some wisp of memory that would tie him to this person. A wisp of something breaks through. A song...
Dino gasps and looks at the picture again and the empty space is now filled with a smiling happy bunny hybrid with brown curly hair. "I remember him,"
Jungkook smiles.
"Oh my gosh, I remember him. He was always looking out for me. He would always smile. He loved to sing." a stunned look covered his face as he remembered.
"Sing? I have never heard that." Jungkook scratches his head. "Do you remember anything else?"
He shook his head, but then paused and looked at the photo. "How many of them are there?"
"All together, you have 4 mates," Jungkook says.
"Four...so three more I need to remember. I wonder why I can't see them?" This bothered Dino. Now he knew what was in those empty spaces, but if they were his mates, why couldn't he see them?
"That I don't know, but we'll find out," Jungkook promised.
A smile crossed Dino's face, "Thank you for helping me out." then a thought occurred to him, "Did they tell you my name?"
"Still don't remember?"
"No, I still don't remember."
Jungkook shook his head, "I don't know what type of amnesia you are going through, but they said your name was Jonghyun."
He tried it a few times but didn't feel a connection to the name. "I think I like Dino better. I don't know if I like Jonghyun or not."
"I'll call you whatever you like," Jungkook smiled at him.
"Maybe if I remember my mates, I can remember my name?" The thought brought a little comfort to him. If he could get his memories back, maybe his name would feel like it fit.
"Anything is possible," Jungkook shrugged. This made Dino smile.
"Just like maybe accepting your mate?"
The smile dropped off Jungkook's face, "Not that possible."
"Nuh uh huh, You said anything was possible," Dino shook a finger at him, teasing.
Jungkook groaned and walked away from the laughing ghost behind him.
