-Max-
I stared in awe at my now blue haired best friend.
"Chloe!" I heard a mans voice call. I looked over to see our security guard, David Madsen, running towards us.
"Shit. Max can we talk on the go?" Chloe said as she looked at David and back at me.
"Umm." I looked at Warren and back to Chloe.
"Max she looks important you should go." Warren approved.
"O-okay... Thanks Warren." I said as I hugged him before getting into the truck I close the door and I could have sworn I heard a crack but I forgot all about it as soon as Chloe drove away faster then what I'm use to.
"Well isn't this a nice surprise." Chloe said smiling but her tone didn't match her expression.
"Yeah it makes perfect sense that I would see you today." I said looking at Chloe and then back down.
What do I say ? What do I do? I practically left her alone and now she's here...what do I say to that.
"Don't give me the guilty face. At least pretend your glad to see me." Chloe said her eyes looking at me for a brief second and then back on the road.
"I am seriously glad to see you." I said facing her and I really am I was scared that we would just stay unspoken for the rest of our lives and that thought made me honestly want to cry.
"Good, after 5 years your still Max Caulfield." Chloe said pulling me away from my sad thought.
"Yeah... So what did the security guard want with you?" I asked honestly curious but also for the need of a topic.
"He's...my step shit." Chloe sighed.
"Step-...step dad?" I asked surprised.
"I'll never call him that but that's what Joyce wants me to call him. So yeah." Chloe stated resting her head on the hand not used for driving.
"Oh ok...feels so weird to back." I don't like how Chloe referred to her mom by her name but I won't comment on it, it might start a fuse to a bomb I won't be able to diffuse.
"So, I guess Seattle sucked hard?" Chloe asked her face seeming to light up a bit but that could be my imagination.
"I guess. It was cool but...I felt kind of lonely and out of my league." I admitted.
"I would think you would fit right in with the art school hipster." Chloe states with a smirk.
"Right. You look like the cover of Hipster Girl Dot Com." I shot back.
"At least your still a smart ass." She smiled.
"That's why I'm here." I smiled back.
"Please girl, you came back for Blackwell Academy." Chloe said her face back to her serious shape.
"I guess but I think Mark Jefferson and seeing you again kind of sealed the deal." I added.
"Well I'm glad the teacher gave you a good reason to come back." She said a hint of venom in her words.
"Don't you think I'm happy to see you ?" I said concerned.
"No. Your were happy to wait 5 years without even a call or a text. Also not to mention you've been at Blackwell for almost a month without letting me know. 'Nuff said." Her words didn't make this reunion any better.
"Chloe..."
"Just don't Max." Chloe said finishing off that topic. We sat in silence. I watched as the light reflected off Chloe she looks so different... I should take a picture this lighting is great.
I reached down to grab my camera it felt different... I pulled it out to find it broken.
"Broken. Oh man, are you cereal?" I stated disappointment clear in my voice.
"Wow...haven't heard that one in a while..." Chloe stated.
"Not everything changes. Except my camera has officially taken a shit."
"My step-douche has a boatload of tools. Maybe you can fix it my place."
I thought about her offer how can I pass it up? A visit back to the place where I spent a good portion of my childhood.
"But I need very specific tiny tools." I stated.
"Nerd alert! My step-dick has a fully stocked garage and he actually is a tiny tool." Chloe joked.
I giggled at her stupid joke. I missed her stupid jokes but back then they didn't rip on people but they were still funny.
"Okay I'll go to your house."
"Sweet. Welcome home, Max." Chloe said her mood better.
"Thanks Chloe it actually feels good to be back." I said truthfully cause it does now that Chloe is here.
"Oh so it felt like shit before I arrived huh?"
"Sure you can say that." I said playfully rolling my eyes.
"Yes I can say that because it's fucking true." Chloe grinned.
After a few minutes we ended up at Chloe's house.
Chloe exited the car and walked to her front door. She reached for her keys and began to unlock it. I walked around looking this is serious déjà vu more than what happened today and I actually went back in time.
"Come on in, don't be shy."
"The house still looks...nice" I stated as I went towards her at the door.
"Home shit home." Chloe stated as we entered the house.
As soon as I stepped in I swore I travelled back in time 5 years ago because everything seem the same but different if that makes sense.
"This is so crazy."
"What?" Chloe asked confused.
"I haven't been here for 5 years but it feels like I'm coming home from school." I said making less sense once it escaped my mouth.
"Okay it's not just me right you just made no fucking sense."
"It's not just you." I sighed.
"I think I might understand but whatever let's head up to my lair." Chloe said as we made our way upstairs. We turned right from the stairs and there was Chloe's room. As soon as she opened the door the smell of ashes and beer hit my nostrils. Also my eyes widen at the room that could probably be Hot Topic if Chloe didn't say it was her room.
"Talk about a serious room make over." I said as I looked all around the punked out room.
"Well what can I say Max a lot has changed since you ditched me for Seattle." She huffed as she made her way to her bed.
"This is just the beginning don't worry." Chloe smirked as she picked up an ash tray.
Oh I can tell.
