y/n was talking on the phone with sasha, while she was waiting for classes to start. her 18th birthday was a day away, and she wasn't even feeling excited about it.
she spent a lot of time thinking of actually cancelling her birthday party that was gonna be held on the weekend, but she didn't want to disappoint her family or friends.
when the lesson started and she hung up, she couldn't concentrate on anything. her mind was filled with nothing but jean. so, once break arrived, she decided to call him.
she couldn't stay silent when he was putting her friends in between them.
"hey"
"hi! i hope i'm not bothering you"
"no, of course not! what's up?"
"sasha told me that you won't come to my birthday party on sunday"
"yeah... some of my friends are leaving for the military, and you know, i can't just not see them for one last time"
"of course, i understand that! they're your close friends and you won't be able to see them for some months"
"but, jean... why didn't you inform me by yourself?" she added.
"i would've done that! i would've called you today or tomorrow and informed you, myself!"
"oh, so you mean that if i wasn't the one calling you right now, you'd do it?"
"yes!"

"alright... but, still, i'd appreciate it if you didn't involve sasha and historia in it. this is a matter about the two of us"
"yes, you're right. but, you weren't at historia's, so i thought of telling them so you'd know sooner"
"can i ask you something?"
"what is it?"
"did i do something to you? did i say something wrong?"
"no?"
"i thought that we cleared things out and we agreed to stay friends, but we're not like we used to. we hardly even talk!"
"do you have any... problem with me?" she added.
"i don't have a problem with you, my girl! everything's alright! if there was anything, i would've told you!"
"if this is about the party-"
"it's not about that, love! i'm talking in general! i can't possibly force you to come to my party, for god's sake! your best friends are leaving! of course, you're gonna be with them!"
"i'll try to make it to your party, too"
"i'm gonna go on a walk with the others, after all! if we're done quickly, i'll call you, before coming to your house"
"okay"
"don't worry, everything's fine between us"
y/n didn't comment anything on that. she just sighed, before checking the time.
"anyways, that's all i wanted! thank you for listening to me"

"hope you have fun with your friends on the weekend"

y/n kept staring at her screen, tears rolling down her cheeks. she tried to believe his words, but something in her was telling her that they were all lies.
because jean's actions spoke louder than his sugar-coated words.
