Marinette burns the love she had for Adrien along with other girls. They move on as Adrien realizes he made a terrible mistake

Marinette was a hopeless romantic, and everyone knew it. And by everyone, that includes staff, students, family members, friends, kwamiis, even pets knew. It seemed like everyone knew, except the crush himself.
And who is this boy you ask? No other than Adrien Agreste.
Marinette will admit, their friendship started off rocky at first. Marinette thought Adrien was like Chloe, but he proved that he was different.
Too bad he changed later. And all it took was one girl with many lies to drive a wedge between them.
Lila Rossi was her name, and along with her came her lies of utter bullshit. Why would you claim that you're best friends with a famous superhero? Doesn't she know how dangerous that could be if Marinette WASN'T Ladybug?
The worst part was that the lies kept going. Lila even threatened Marinette when she said she was going to expose her for the faker she was. The threat became real, and the baker girl began to lose her friends.
The first one to go hurt. It was Alya, the one person she thought would never leave her. She's studying to be a reporter, so it's her job to know the facts and know when someone is lying! So why couldn't she so clearly see that she was being lied to?
Eventually, there was no getting through to Alya. Now matter how much evidence she brought, the blogger refused to believe Marinette and even cut off their friendship. When Marinette talked to Adrien about it, he ended up scolding her about trying to expose Lila and her lies.
"We would be destroying her lift around her lies. Sure, they aren't the best, but she's just trying to make friends." Adrien said confidently.
"Threatening me and destroying my friendships isn't how you make friends, no matter what way you look at it." Adrien shook his head and put his hand on her shoulder.
"As long as you and I know the truth, what does it matter?" That one sentence was all it took for Marinette's love for him to fade. She knew he would never see it like she did, so why bother?
After that day, Marinette stopped trying to show her ex friends who Lila really was. She was just going to let them find out for themselves the hard way.
But through all that darkness, there was one person who was her rock. Someone she never expected.

Chloe actually came up to Marinette one day and formally apologized. After Sabrina was taken away from her, the mayor's daughter felt the most alone that she had in a while. It made her realize that she was doing something similar to what Lila was doing, and that didn't feel good to her. So she apologized to Sabrina before Marinette and was able to catch her afterschool.
The old Marinette would have never forgiven Chloe, not in a million years. But in the past few weeks, Marinette has seen the changes Chloe has gone through. Both as Marinette and Ladybug. So Marinette decided to forgive her, and even invited her to her new lunch group.
It was a nice change compared to Bustier's class. They actually cared enough about her opinions and asked about plans to hang out ahead of time. It's not like everyone in Bustier's class was bad, just a select few. Others stood by but still believed Marinette. Juleka, Nino, Nath, Mylene, and Ivan were the most observant.
They apologized later that day for their behavior, and wanted to earn their second chances with Marinette. She agreed to forgive, but not forget. But then an idea sparked in her.
"There is one way you guys can make it up to me." The teens looked at her, eager. "You guys can be spies. Record everything Lila lies about, and everywhere she claimed to go. Even the accusations of me hurting her, along with times and locations. That should be enough to at least spread doubt."
"I thought you weren't going to reveal her lies to the class?" Marc asked his cousin. Marinette grinned.
"I'm not. I'm going to expose Lila a more fun way: in front of the whole school."
Later that day, Adrien tried to talk to Marinette. He noticed that she had been avoiding him for awhile. He wanted to make sure she wasn't scheming anything in the dark without his knowledge. They were in this together, after all!
But when he tried to confront her, he only got the silent treatment and a cold stare.

"So, why did you decide to join me when it comes to taking down Lila and Adrien? I thought you two were friends?" Marinette asked one day at the park. Chloe scoffed and filed her nails.
"Apparently I was the only one who thought we were friends. And if we were, he replaced me with Lila real quick. I even tried to warn him about her, but he brushed me off and said she was just trying to fit in. I warned him because I cared about him, because I knew what someone like her could do to his reputation if she got the chance." She put down the file and looked down. "I guess our friendship was a lie, too."
"I apologize for Adrien's behavior towards you." A new voice spoke up. The girls looked up to see Kagami in front of them. When did she get there?
The fencer took in their surprised faces. "My apologies, I did not mean to scare you. I figured Marinette would be near the park today and I wanted to talk to her. Forgive me for interrupting your conversation. Please continue, I will wait." Marinette shook her head and smiled warmly.
"Nonsense, join us! We're talking about Adrien though, so warning in advance." Kagami hesitantly sat down on the other side of Marinette.
"So what brings you out here today, Ice Queen?" Chloe asked. "You don't seem like you would come out too much."
"I do not, but I had fencing practice with Adrien earlier and he confided in me about his school life. More specifically, about how Marinette wouldn't talk to him, Chloe was ignoring him, and now some of his class was wary of him. He did not know what to do or what went wrong, so he asked me for advice. When I asked about something happening recently, he mentioned a girl named Lila who I immediately knew was a liar."
"THANK YOU!" Marinette gave Kagami a tight hug. "I knew I wasn't the only one who could sense it so soon!" Kagami chuckled and pat her hand.
"He believes so strongly that she is only trying to make friends, he doesn't realize she's driving them all away. By the time he realizes his mistake, it will be too late." The girl suddenly started glaring at the ground. "Then he suddenly asked if I could convince Marinette to talk to him, which I quickly shot down. He's part of the reason why you didn't want to speak to him in the first place! I told him I would not take his side and I will not associate with him until he realizes what he did was wrong." Kagami sighed. "I regret spending so much time with him, it seems like a waste now."
There was a peaceful silence as birds chirped overhead. There were three in particular, one yellow, one blue, and one red. Marinette smiled.
"Funny how our annoyance and love of Adrien brought us together." The others smiled as well. Marinette turned to Kagami.
"How would you like to join us and destroy Lila and potentially ruin Adrien's social life in the process?" Kagami blinked.
"I beg your pardon?"

The next day, all three girls joined the Destruction Squad (they would work on the name later) as they ate their lunches and discussed their findings. Aurore agreed to post the video evidence on her blog, which suddenly had more followers than Alya since all she posted nowadays were Lila's lies. If Alya ever read the comments, some people called out the stories. That was a mistake that she would learn later.
Nino agreed to help edit the video and put everything together. He had to be extremely careful with his job, since technically being the editor could make people think they fabricated the evidence. Luckily for them, a majority of footage had eye witnesses who could testify what they saw.
The others in Bustier's class agreed to silently listen in to Lila and her conversations. They noticed whenever someone tried to question her, she would change the topic. If the person asked to go back to the old topic, Alya would pounce on them on Lila's behalf for interrupting. Even if Lila isn't exposed, it would sure expose the toxic environment in the classroom. That would lead to their teacher being watched, which would still lead to downfalls. Either way, the liar was finished.
Along the way, Adrien noticed that Marinette was truly planning something and tried to stop them. Ivan body blocked him as he came close. Kagami was waiting outside with a sword while Chloe and Marc were flanked on Marinette's side. They refused to let Adrien get near her until their plan was launched.
And soon enough, it was.

At last, by the end of that month, Lila's lies were discovered. Lila was arrested and being questioned for all her lies against celebrities while her mother cried at how much freedom she allowed her daughter. She knew there was no way she was letting her daughter off scot-free, and let the police take her to juvie. When she is old enough, she will be sent to an adult prison. Along with charges on bullying, cyberbullying, and harassment, there was also a chance she was working with their local terrorist. Those sentences will keep Lila in jail for a good amount of time.
Alya's blog was taken down and she was hit with a bunch of lawsuits. When she crawled back to Marinette to apologize, she was turned away.
"I warned you countless times, but you just didn't listen! You made your bed, now go lay in it!" Marinette refused to talk to Alya ever again, and even got a restraining order with the help of Chloe. Alya was stuck with debts she couldn't pay and a ruined repuation because she didn't believe her best friend.
The others in the class apologized to Marinette, but they weren't forgiven as easily. Marinette gave them a similar deal, but also added in how she preferred if they lost contact with her. They understood and left her alone.
According to Adrien, he was somehow facing the worst treatment of all. How can being isolated by those around you be worse than staying in jail for the rest of your life? Or being stuck with debts that would take several lifetimes to pay off?
Since Adrien had a hand in Lila's lies, people stopped communicating with him and he was left alone. Just like Marinette was. No one wanted to be associated with a liar's pet. He eventually moved back into homeschool, then moved to London to live with his cousin after Hawkmoth was exposed.
Adrien felt completely alone while Marinette was living her life. There was one thought roaming his mind every night as he tried to sleep.
If he just agreed to take down Lila with her, would things have been different?
