(Nico puts on a new suit of power armor and arrives at a fortified car tunnel in rockland. He heads inside, and sure enough, he finds Paladin Tristan and a group of brotherhood soldiers)
Tristan: Welcome back to the land of the living. Some of us were starting to wonder if you were gonna pull through. It'll be good to have another reliable soldier out here. Basic rule of thumb in these operations. Keep your head down and let the robot do most of the heavy lifting. He can take it better than you can
Nico: Has the enclave been putting up much of a fight lately?
Tristan: Not like they did at the purifier, no. We got the sense that after you took care of their headquarters, they didn't have anyone to give orders. They haven't been as coordinated. Some wandered, some tried to hold out, some surrendered. It all ended the same way. But don't let that fool you. If we keep the pressure on them, we win. If not, then we give them a chance to re organize. But we don't want that to happen, do we? Lets move out
(Nico, Tristan, and some brotherhood soldiers head outside the bunker and they find Liberty Prime using his eye laser to shoot down an enclave vertibird)
Liberty Prime: Hiding is futile
(Liberty Prime stomps on an auto-turret and throws a nuke at a group of enclave soliders)
Liberty Prime: Embrace democracy or be eradicated
Tristan: For Elder Lyons!
Group: For Elder Lyons!
(The brotherhood group uses their rifles to provide ranged support for Liberty Prime as he powers through the enclave's defenses at a satellite array as if it were a sandcastle)
Liberty Prime: Structural weakness detected. Exploiting
(Liberty Prime scans the wall of a bunker and throws a nuke at it, blowing the wall wide open)
Nico: I think that's our entrance
Liberty Prime: The last domino falls here!
(Liberty Prime uses his eye laser to obliterate the rest of the enclave soldiers in the area)
Liberty Prime: Warning! Red Chinese orbital strike immanent! All personnel should reach minimal safe distance!
Tristan: Get down!
(An orbital strike hits the ground, knocking everyone off their feet)
(When everyone gets back up, they see Liberty Prime in pieces)
Liberty Prime: Catastrophic... system failure... Initiating core shutdown... I die so that democracy may live...
(Liberty Prime shuts down)
Nico: Well, that's not good
Knight: Understatement of the century
Knight: What the hell just happened?
Tristan: There's no time to talk. We need to get inside that base and locate the source of their transmission. Now!
(Nico, Tristan, and the group of brotherhood soldiers go through the hole Liberty Prime punched into the wall, and they find a group of enclave soldiers waiting for them)
Tristan: Ambush!
(Everyone opens fire at the same time. The enclave soldiers all fall dead, but so do a couple of brotherhood soldiers)
Enclave Soldier: For the president!
(An enclave soldier fires a rocket launcher down the hall, but everyone ducks under the rocket, and it explodes in the distance)
(Nico shoots the enclave soldier's rocket launcher with his plasma rifle as he's about to fire again, blowing up the enclave solider and a few of his buddies)
(Nico, Tristan, and the brotherhood continue to push forward into the satellite array and fighting the enclave's forces. Eventually, Nico funds a huge computer, and he hacks into it)
(He downloads the data from it onto his pip boy)
Nico: When Rothchild hears about this one, he's gonna lose his shit
(Nico heads back to the citadel to deliver the news)
Rothchild: I just... I can't believe it. All those years of work. All of it for what? Two weeks of success? I'm still waiting for the debrief from Tristan, but I'm not sure it even matters. With Prime gone, it removed the one major advantage we had over the enclave
Nico: We might not be completely screwed just yet. I found some encrypted data at the station
Rothchild: I'll see if I can figure out how to read it. Perhaps it can give us some insight into what just happened out there. It would be good to salvage something from this mess. I believe Elder Lyons wishes to speak to you as well. Perhaps you should find him. Now, if you'll excuse me...
(Nico reports to Owyn, and he finds him in a room with two guards at the door)
Owyn: I trust you've spoken with Rothchild? I hope he can make some headway with the data you recovered from the site. With our primary weapon destroyed, no pun intended, we risk losing our momentum, and jeopardizing this entire camping. I must admit, I now wonder whether I was moving ahead with this operation was an error in judgement
Nico: No one could have known what would happen
Owyn: And yet here we are. Discontinuing that our best field commander, my daughter, is out there in a bloody battle, and my personal feelings have been running wild, things have not been going well. If we fail now, we could lose everything
Nico: We can't back down now. We have to keep fighting
Owyn: I never said anything about giving up. An to that end, I would like you to speak with Paladin Tristan. He requested you by name for a special assignment. One that could prove vital to our success
(Nico walks over a few rooms and finds Paladin Tristan waiting for him)
Tristan: Nice work back there. Let's hope the scribes can do something useful with the information you retrieved. Unfortunately, we don't have time to just sit around and wait for the analysis
Nico: Of course...
Tristan: Based on what I've seen from you and heard about you so far, there's an assignment I believe you're well suited for
Nico: What is it?
Tristan: With the setbacks the brotherhood has suffered, we find ourselves in a difficult position. All our available resources need to be positioned for the inevitable counter attack from the enclave. At the same time, we believe we may have developed a tool to help our chances at victory. But with everyone needed to help defend against the enclave, we have no one to send for a recovery mission
Nico: No one except for me, that is
Tristan: Bingo. I'm going to have you travel to the olney powerworks to secure some technology for us
Nico: Anything I should look for in particular?
Tristan: Hopefully you'll be able to find a tesla coil. An experimental device from before the war. Our scribes need it to complete a little surprise they've been preparing for the enclave. Get there, grab the coil, and gets back as safely and quickly as possible. Good luck, knight. Oh, and see Scribe Vallincourt. She's been cooking up a secret weapon
(Nico walks to the lab to find Scribe Vallincourt)
Vallincourt: I'm very busy right now. Is this urgent, or can it wait?
Nico: Paladin Tristan said you could help me
Vallincourt: Well, possibly. But I'm not certain. I don't know how much this will actually help. I'm not sure how effective it will be, because it hasn't been field tested. But I think I've found a way to override the signal the enclave uses to control their deathclaws
Nico: Yeah, I saw those in an enclave biotics lab. It would be good to have a way to counter them
Vallincourt: Here. This is the jammer. It's only a prototype, so don't lose it. As long as you have the scrambler on your person, it will do the job
(Vallincourt gives Nico a deathclaw scrambler)
(Nico makes his way to olney, and he finds an enclave compound, with some deathclaw cages. He opens fire with his plasma rifle, killing a few enclave soliders and an officer. He takes the cage keys off of the officer and unlocks the cages, letting the deathclaws run loose and wreak havoc on the enclave soldiers)
(Vallincourt's jammer keeps Nico safe from the deathclaw rampage. He goes through olny and finds a lot of scrap and ammo, but no tesla coil. He decides to look underground, but he finds a couple of ghouls. Their names are Wint and Kidd)
Wint: How'd you even get in here, smoothskin?
Nico: Wandering. Who are you guys?
Wint: I'm Wint. This is Kidd
(Kidd nods)
Wint: It's kind of a long story. The only thing that matters now is we're trying to steer clear of the deathclaws on account of not wanting to be lunchmeat. Take it from me, kid. You're gonna stay down here, and you're gonna die
Nico: Buddy, if I had a cap for every time I heard that one...
Wint: Eh, what the hell, right? The way back must be pretty clear if you're still around. Come on, Kidd
(Wint and Kidd leave the room. So does Nico after he enjoys a bottle of nuka cola)
Nico: Ah, original flavor. It's old, but it's gold
(Nico keeps looking through the ruins of the building until he finds a huge metal door. He melts the lock with his plasma rifle and heads inside, where he finds the central reactor)
(Nico leaps down into the chamber and his power armor protects him from the electricity. He grabs the tesla coil, but then a couple of sentry bots come out of nowhere and starts firing their miniguns)
(Nico takes cover behind a corner, and when a sentry bot gets close enough, he punches it with his electrically charged power armor and ducks into cover)
(The sentry bot crackles and shorts out. The other sentry bot gets caught in the explosion and overheats, making it go into cooldown mode)
(Nico uses his power armor's arm strength to rip the minigun arm right off the deactivated sentry bot and empty the belt of bullets into the other one, and ultimately destroy it. Nico ditches the gun arm and heads back to the citadel)
