It's the gentle caresses on the back of his hand that wake him up. His eyes flutter open and he looks at Jake.
"Good morning." Jake whispers when their eyes meet.
"Morning..." Sunghoon mumbles. Jake pulls his hand away and Sunghoon has to stop himself from reaching for it again.
"Did you sleep okay?"
"Yeah. You?"
"It was okay."
Sunghoon watches as Jake stands and stretches his arms, a thin line of skin being revealed as his shirt rises with the movement. Sunghoon swallows and looks away.
"You moved around a lot this time." Jake blurts. Sunghoon freezes and then looks up at him, finally sitting up.
"Huh?"
"You kept moving... which is fine, but... honestly, I didn't sleep much." Jake laughs awkwardly and scratches his neck, avoiding the youngers eyes. Sunghoon isn't sure how to answer, so he just sits there with his mouth open for several seconds.
"Ah... Sorry, Hoon. It's not your fault, I'm just a really light sleeper."
"I'm sorry..." Sunghoon mumbles anyway, his eyes returning to his hands resting on his legs.
"I-I've been sleeping too much lately anyway!" Jake rushes, quickly reaching over to grab Sunghoon's hand. Sunghoon looks up at him once again, skeptical.
"Let's do something fun today." Jake says. Sunghoon's eyebrows furrow in confusion.
"Something fun?"
"Let's go to an arcade or amusement park or something..."
"You want to go there... with me?" Sunghoon asks, he can't help but trail his eyes down to where their hands are connected.
"W-Well... yeah? Unless you don't want to...? Sorry."
"No, I want to!" Sunghoon squeezes Jake's hand in approval. "I want to." He repeats.
"Okay." Jake's voice is at a normal tone but Sunghoon can see how his eyes light up and his lips form a small smile.
"I'll go get dressed then. We should go eat before... I'll pay." Jake pulls away and quickly opens the bedroom door. He turns and faces Sunghoon, flashing a grin and a thumbs up before he's disappearing into the hallway.
Sunghoon remains on his bed, half dumbfounded as he stares at the spot Jake had been only a moment ago. His phone rings on the table beside his bed and he reaches for it.
"Hello?"
"Hoon... good morning."
"Heeseung... hi."
"Are you busy today?"
"Well..." Sunghoon hesitates. Why did it feel so wrong to say he'll be with Jake? "I won't be home until this evening. Do you need something?"
"Oh. No." There's a pause before he continues. "Can you come over tonight?"
Sunghoon's cheeks heat up and he clears his throat. Heeseung asking him to come over? At night?
"Y-Yeah... I'll be over when I get back." Sunghoon says, ignoring his stutter.
"See you then, Hoon. Bye." And then he's hanging up, leaving Sunghoon red and flustered. He runs his hands through his hair and stands up, walking over to his closet.
"What am I going to wear...?" He mutters under his breath. He sighs and shakes his head. "It's just Jake... No reason to be so nervous."
And then he remembers how he woke up with Jake watching him, caressing his skin, and he blushes again.
Right. No reason to be nervous.
—-------------------------------------
Jake looks cute in his oversized, fluffy brown jacket. He has his sleeves pulled down to cover his hands as they walk towards the crowded area. Sunghoon internally coos as he watches Jake scurry towards the first booth of the day. It's a simple one, throwing darts at balloons.
He stands to the side, making sure to not get in Jake's way as he aims and throws the dart. Jake's cheeks grow slightly red as he misses, the dart falling to the side as Jake glances at the younger.
"You were close." Sunghoon offers some reassurance, even if they both know he's lying.
"R-Right... I'll try again." Jake throws another dart, and this time there's a pop when he hits his target. Sunghoon grins and walks closer as Jake throws his third dart.
"Do you want to try?" He asks, offering one of the darts.
"Nah, I'm okay. I'd rather watch you."
"Don't be like that, here..." Jake shoves a dart into his hand and pushes him forward. Sunghoon looks down at it and then at the balloons.
It would be so embarrassing if he missed.
"I-I'm not any good at this... I'm okay with just watching y-" His sentence cuts off when Jake wraps an arm around him, Jake's warm hand sliding over his own.
"It's easy once you get the hang of it. Just keep your eyes on your target..." Jake's hand guides Sunghoon's into position. "And then throw."
Sunghoon's cheeks are hot, embarrassingly. He tries his best to keep his face turned away from the older as he nods, exhaling only once Jake's hand isn't touching his anymore.
He throws the dart, failing, of course. Jake only giggles beside him and throws another dart. Sunghoon smiles slightly and watches him.
Jake makes him feel comfortable.
—--------------------------------------------
Sunghoon doesn't know why he agreed to this.
Jake had seen the cash prize for the winner of the competition and had convinced Sunghoon to join.
A couple game.
That's how Sunghoon found himself face to face with Jake, arm wrapped around his waist to keep them close as they stood on the paper square placed on the ground, getting cut smaller and smaller as other couples stepped or fell off, failing.
"It's only awkward if you make it awkward." Jake had told him before starting. That's when they still had plenty of space.
A lot of time had passed since then, and now they are practically standing on top of each other with how close they are. Granted, there are only three other couples left, so they're close to winning.
Sunghoon is convinced he can manage, just focusing his eyes on some point in the distance... ignoring how small Jake's waist feels, or how good he smells.
Sunghoon exhales sharply when their noses bump against each others. He swallows as Jake moves his head to the side, making it easier for Sunghoon to focus on his lips. Plump... soft looking...
Sunghoon can feel his cheeks warming and turns away. Jake shifts closer to him, their bodies pressing together. Sunghoon tightens his grip around Jake's waist; Jake's palms still flat against his shoulders.
"Jake..." Sunghoon whispers. Jake turns his face to look at him, their lips centimeters apart again and it's Sunghoon's last straw. He turns away, coughing into his elbow as he steps away. They're disqualified, but it's worth it. Sunghoon wasn't going to last much longer standing so close to the older. Jake gives him a concerned look, stepping closer, and Sunghoon raises his hand.
"I'm fine... it's just a-allergies." Sunghoon stutters out quickly.
"Do you need some water?" Jake asks, stepping closer once again. He must have noted Sunghoon's slight panting, or the sweat glistening against his neck... maybe it was the redness he was sure painted his cheeks.
"Y-Yeah... let's go get something to drink." Sunghoon rushes, turning on his heel and walking away. Jake follows behind him, still slightly concerned by the redness of Sunghoon's face. He didn't want him to get sick.
"Are you sure?" Jake calls from behind.
"Y-Yeah... I forgot to take allergy medicine this morning."
"I didn't even know you had medicine..."
"I keep it in my room."
"I never saw it when I was in there."
"I keep it in my drawer."
"Oh... okay." Jake shrugs. Jake's about to say something else when Sunghoon abruptly stops, causing the older to bump into him.
"You okay?" Jake asks. Sunghoon's eyes are facing forward, focused on someone.
"It's my ex." He mumbles, just as Jay catches sight of him.
"Crazy seeing you here." Jay grunts, facing them. Sunoo is glued to his side, arms already stuffed full of a variety of stuffed animals and other toys. Sunghoon focuses on the headband he's wearing, giving him fox ears.
It's cute.
"Yeah. Wild." Sunghoon responds dryly. Sunghoon notices the way their gaze turns towards Jake, who's still half standing behind him.
"Who is this?" Jay asks, smiling softly at Jake. Sunghoon raises an eyebrow, he hadn't seen Jay look so friendly with anyone besides Sunoo.
And maybe his cousin, Jade.
"This is Jake... my... r-"
"Boyfriend." Jake blurts. Jake smiles brightly, one of those ones that makes him look like a puppy, and clings to Sunghoon's arm.
Sunghoon flushes red and tries to keep his mouth from dropping open. Why was he pretending they were together? To help him? Jake looks up at him with a small flutter of his eyes and smiles again before entwining their fingers. Sunghoon feels like he's going to faint.
"Boyfriend...?" Sunoo asks. Jake only nods in response, pressing closer against the younger. Sunghoon slowly raises his eyes to meet the couples'.
"Who are you guys? Friends?" Jake asks, that friendly smile still plastered on his face. Sunghoon is convinced it's real.
"This is who you're dating?" Jay meets Sunghoon's eyes, completely ignoring Jake's question. "I thought you were dating Heeseung."
Jakes grip slightly loosens in Sunghoon's hold but he keeps his eyes on Jay even when Jake turns his head to look at him.
"H-Heeseung?" Sunghoon mumbles, laughing awkwardly.
"Lee Heeseung, the one in our first class." Jay specifies, and Sunghoon wants to pass away.
"We're just friends." He says firmly. He turns to look at Jake, noticing how his smile had fallen slightly.
"Jake is the only one I have my eyes on." He mumbles.
"You two look great, honestly." Sunoo finally speaks up, an attempt to cut through the tension forming between the four of them.
"Yeah. Thanks." Jake says. He pulls away from Sunghoon's hand and scratches his neck. "I-I'm gonna go to the bathroom."
Sunghoon doesn't get a chance to respond before Jake is walking away. He turns to glare at Jay.
"Seriously? What the fuck?" Sunghoon growls.
"I didn't know he was the type to get easily jealous, sorry man." Jay says with a shrug, but it's very obvious that he's not sorry.
"You're an asshole. Why bother me at all? Why didn't you just keep walking?" Sunghoon hisses. He takes a final glance at Sunoo, who looks back at him with those big, innocent, worry-filled eyes... and then he turns to chase after Jake.
"Jake?" Sunghoon grabs his arm once he finally catches him and Jake immediately pulls away.
"Please, don't."
"I can explain..."
"What? That you've been keeping it a secret that you and Heeseung are all buddy-buddy? I've been crying and complaining about him to you and you never told me? I feel so fucking stupid right now!"
"Jake... it's really not a big deal, I-"
"It's not a big deal?" Jake raises his voice, "Then why keep it a secret? Why let me cry over him to you and then go to school and stand by his side? Does he know?"
"Y-Yeah... he knows we're roommates..." Sunghoon lowers his eyes.
"He..." Jake scoffs and shakes his head. "He knows, but I don't. Well... I know who you support more now. I feel so stupid ranting to you now. You probably went and told him how I was crying, and I bet you two laughed it off, right? This whole time..."
"Jake, I never said anything about you to him, I swear. Everything you told me you're feeling, I always kept it between us..."
"Is it you?" Jake asks.
"W-What?"
"The one he was cheating with... is it you?"
Sunghoon's jaw drops in surprise but Jake must interpret it the wrong way because then there's tears in his eyes and he's covering his face with his hands.
"Are you fucking kidding me right now?" He sobs, his shoulders shaking as he wipes at his eyes.
"Jake, stop. It's not like that. Heeseung and I really are just friends, I promise. And I never told you because I didn't want you to feel like you couldn't talk to me just because I was friends with him... You know I care about you just as much as I care about him, right?" Sunghoon pulls Jake into his arms, surprised when Jake buries into his chest instead of pulling away.
"Just because you two are over doesn't mean I can't fully support both of you. You're both important to me, and you're both dealing with a lot. Can't I be here for both of you?"
"You support a cheater?" Jake mumbles against his chest.
"He didn't cheat, I promise. He's just... going through some things."
"I don't believe that."
"Well... you don't have to, but don't push me away. I haven't done anything but support you, right?"
"Whatever." Jake grunts. Sunghoon smiles at his stubbornness and caresses his hair before he pulls away.
"It's getting late, let's head back. I'll buy you dinner."
"Fine. I'm getting the most expensive thing possible just because you're a pain in the ass."
"Please, don't." Sunghoon whines, already feeling the damage to his bank account.
