{Day Two of VidCon - Part 2}
With their morning conversations behind them, Ruth, Nic, and Nils finished their breakfast. Nic and Nils returned to their room to wake Benji, give him breakfast, and to get ready for the second day of VidCon. The excitement from the previous day still lingered in the air, and they were all eager to see what new experiences awaited them. As they were headed out, Benji's eyes lit up when he saw Ruth standing in the hallway sipping her coffee and carrying her tan purse. "Morning Ruth," he greeted with a smile, his gaze lingering on her a little longer. "Morning, Benji," Ruth replied while looking up at him, feeling a flutter of excitement at his presence and gaze. The group made their way to the convention center, the energy and buzz of VidCon electrifying the air around them. Today, they were meeting up with Nils' friends after their Q&A.
They were meeting a group known as The Elevator Boys, and as they approached the designated meeting spot, Ruth felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. "There they are," Nils said, waving to a group of guys who were taking photos with a few of their fans. As they got closer, the friends turned their attention to Nils and the group, greeting them with warm smiles and friendly gestures. "Hey, Nils!" one of the guys called out, stepping forward. He was tall, dark haired, and had a charming smile. "Good to see you, man." "Hey, Jacob," Nils responded, giving him a quick hug. Nils introduced his friends to the guys, whom Benji and Nic kind of knew from TikTok and other events. "Guys, this is Ruth, Nic, and Benji." "Nice to meet you," Ruth said, extending her hand. Jacob took her hand, his smile widening. "Nice to meet you too, Ruth. Welcome to our crew for the day," he said before turning her hand and placing a kiss on the back of it. Benji, witnessing this action, began to feel jealousy welling up inside him. He couldn't understand why he was getting jealous over a girl he met the day before VidCon. Nic and Nils could sense Benji's jealousy, but didn't say a word. As introductions continued, Ruth found herself standing next to another member of The Elevator Boys, Bene. He had curly brown hair, a kind demeanor and an easygoing presence. "Hi, Ruth," Bene said, offering a friendly smile. "First time at VidCon?" "Yes, it is," Ruth replied. "It's been an amazing experience so far." "Well, it's about to get even better," Jacob said with a wink, interrupting the conversation. "Stick with us, and we'll show you all the best things here." Benji didn't like the look in Jacob's eyes when he said that. Benji also didn't like how close Bene and Jacob were standing to Ruth. He wanted to tell them to get away from her, but he didn't have the right, after all, she wasn't his girlfriend. So, he kept silent.
As the group ventured through VidCon, Ruth felt herself growing more at ease. Bene and Jacob were attentive and friendly, often striking up conversations with her and making her laugh. Their easy camaraderie reminded her of the bond she was forming with Benji, but she couldn't help but notice a subtle undercurrent of competition between the three guys. Throughout the day, Benji made sure to stay close to Ruth, his protectiveness and genuine interest in her slowly shining through. He would often catch her eye and share a smile or a laugh, creating moments of connection that made their hearts flutter. Bene and Jacob, however, were equally determined to win Ruth's attention. They engaged her in lively conversations, shared their favorite VidCon memories, and even managed to sneak her away to be in a couple of TikTok videos. As the day progressed, the friendly rivalry between Benji, Bene, and Jacob became more apparent. Ruth found herself at the center of their attention, and while it was flattering, she didn't know how to respond to the attention of these three being on her all day. It also made her realize how much she valued the sincerity and depth she had already glimpsed in Benji.
By the time the sun began to set and the group gathered for the final event of the day, Ruth felt a mix of emotions. She appreciated the kindness and interest from Bene and Jacob, but it was Benji who had originally expressed interest the first day they met before VidCon. As they stood watching the closing ceremony, the crowd's cheers filling the air, Ruth found herself standing next to Benji. He glanced over at her, his eyes reflecting the same mixture of excitement and anticipation she felt. "Did you have a good time today?" Benji asked, his voice gentle and somewhat quiet. "I did," Ruth replied, her smile soft and genuine. "Thank you for making me feel welcome with you and your friends these past two days." Benji's smile mirrored hers, a silent understanding passing between them and quiet communication that only they could feel between them. "I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's something special about sharing these moments with friends, new and old." The ceremony came to an end and the crowd began to disperse for the second night, Ruth knew that the connections she had made at VidCon today were just the beginnings of new friendships. Surrounded by new friends, she felt a sense of belonging and the promise of more adventures to come. The Elevator boys bid goodnight to the group and headed to their hotel for the night, but opted to meet up again the next day. As she walked back to the hotel with Benji, Nic and Nils, Ruth couldn't help but feel grateful for the journey that lay ahead, filled with unexpected connections, shared experiences, and the potential for something truly extraordinary.
