With Enid: In one word. Chaos.
Two whole days had passed since everything had happened. Two days since Enid had really slept or eaten anything of substance. It had been two days since Enid had wolfed out the night of the blood moon, risked her life, and woken up in a whole new world. Two days since Wednesday had been forcefully taken away by Sheriff Galpin.
So much had happened in just two days. Nothing was right. Enid's downward spiral started with one broken promise. Deputy Santiago had promised Enid that everything would be ok. Nothing was ok.
Santiago promised that Wednesday would be right back safe and sound. They just wanted to ask her some questions. She had promised to keep her in one piece. She had promised to bring her back herself if need be. Santiago had promised.
Enid never should have listened. She never should have trusted deputy Santiago. She never should have let them take Wednesday away. She should have fought harder for her. Enid had taken on a Hyde and won. What were two normie cops to a wolf like her? She could have destroyed them easily. At the very least she should have gone with them. She had promised to protect Wednesday. Enid had also promised she would make the call to Wednesday's parents. She kept that stupid promise. The easy one. Maybe she shouldn't have. Thing probably could have made that call. Had Wednesday been trying to protect her by making her stay? Maybe, but it didn't matter. Enid had still been mentally kicking herself for the last two days.
Enid paced the room incessantly glancing at Wednesday's empty side of the room. All of her belongings had been packed up and shipped out when she had been expelled. Wednesday was never meant to come back to Nevermore that night or ever, but she had anyway. She risked her life anyway. Enid's wolf could still smell her. Wednesday's scent in the room was the only thing keeping her even remotely grounded.
It finally struck Enid mid pace. This was more than friend. More than even best friend territory. She had real feelings for her roommate. She was in love with Wednesday Addams. Like real love. She had been for a while now. Maybe since the very second she walked into their shared room. And that message that Wednesday had been trying to convey that morning before she left for the train. She was in love with Enid too. That was her way of confessing. Shit! Now the hug, the vulnerability, the closeness...the kiss on the cheek, and the promise to talk. It all finally made sense. Enid shifting for the first time because Wednesday was in trouble. God damn it! All that time worrying about finding a mate. All that time spent with someone else, and talking to Wednesday about Ajax. Her wolf had chosen despite it all. Enid broke down sobbing.
Enid was a mess. Her nails were chipped, her hair un brushed. Her anxiety had been through the roof. She had a few panic attacks. Not even Thing had come back. She had had no word. Not even a note. She had no idea what was going on. It was literally driving her insane. Wednesday had given her word she would come back and they would talk. She gave her word. To an Addams their word was everything. Wednesday had promised to come back. She hadn't. It didn't make sense.
Now campus was closed. No students were allowed off for any reason, and no one was allowed on unless they were parents picking up their students. Still that would never have stopped Wednesday before. Something had to be wrong. Wednesday would never just abandon Enid.
Enid had tried to leave campus. Right after they hauled Wednesday away. She tried several times to sneak off campus there after. She was determined to make it to the sheriff's office. She had to find Wednesday, but she was stopped every time by a four pack of outcast hating rookies cops at the gate with more officers in the woods. She had threatened to end them all more than once but when guns were drawn Enid backed down. She really didn't want to hurt anyone anyway. Enid couldn't find Wednesday if she were dead.
Yoko had found Enid in the quad distraught after one of her run ins with Jericho's finest and took her back to her dorm room. She cleaned her up. Most of their friends were already gone. Eugene, Bianca, Divina and Kent. Even Xavier had stopped by, but when he found out Wednesday wasn't there, he left almost immediately. Ajax had texted her a few times but when Enid didn't replied he stopped. He had promised to stop by before he left. He hadn't.
Yoko stayed with Enid as long as she could trying to comfort her bestie before her father came for her then she had to go. She promised to call Enid as soon as she got home. So far she hadn't. It really depended on whether or not Yoko was going back to her home in Ithaca, or their ancestral home in Japan. Enid was trying to give Yoko the benefit of a doubt.
Enid's wolf was going absolutely berserk by herself. Her life was sheer chaos. Her senses were amped up to ten. She jumped at every noise. She wanted nothing more than to have her people back. Her pack she had created of the people she cared about most. Wednesday, Thing, and Yoko, Divina, Kent, and even Eugene safe in one place and in her sight again. She would give anything. But right now, the road to insanity was apparently paved with mosaics made from broken promises, missteps, and flat out lies.
On top of it all, word had spread fast about what had happen. Mostly gossip, misinformation, rumors, and speculation but still there was some truth to some of it. Weems was dead, Thornhill had been badly injured, most people didn't know why, and there had been some kind of attacks in the woods and on school grounds. The Academy would be closing immediately until after the new year to allow for repairs and the replacement of the two now vacant faculty positions. So roughly six weeks. They called it an early and extended holiday break to include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Most students were elated. Not Enid.
The part that bothered Enid most was, the reports had said Wednesday had been at the center of everything. She was to blame. She was apparently the perfect scapegoat. The videos the students took in the hallway of Wednesday's arrest went viral. It was all hard to watch.
In the wake of everything, the students were pretty much left to their own devices until they were picked up. Enid alone had gotten into two fist fights and several screaming matches defending Wednesday. She wasn't the only one either. Surprisingly Eugene and even Bianca had gotten into their fair share of verbal altercations as well before they left. It was a nightmare Enid couldn't wake up from.
Just when she thought life couldn't have gotten any worse her parents finally showed up to take her home. Her mom was still her mom. Even though Enid had wolfed out nothing had changed. She had instantly commented on Enid's scars. She commented on the state of the soft barely noticeable wolf stubble that had taken over her chin and neck. She didn't hesitate to degrade both Enid and Wednesday. Especially Wednesday. Her dad just wanted to get off school property asap. He didn't even try to correct Esther. You could see he felt concerned for his daughter but the turmoil it would cause with Esther wasn't worth it. He would talk to Enid when they were alone.
Enid paced the floor of the dorm. She wrung her hands. Her mother was sitting on her bed scowling. Her father was leaning against her desk arms folded. "Enid kiddo we can't wait anymore. It's getting late. We need to get on the road." Her dad said softly. "Please dad. Please. I can't just leave. She's coming back. I know it." Enid begged. "For Christ's sake Enid, pull yourself together. Everyone else are gone already. She's not coming back. She never liked you. This is ridiculous." Her mother grumbled. "Five more minutes, then we've gotta go." Murray Sinclair could see the stress radiating from his daughter. Her shoulders slumped. He could hear the anguish in her voice. "Really Murray? You indulge her too much. I refuse to sit here any longer waiting for some girl. An Addams no less." Esther hissed. "Then go wait in the car with our sons. We'll be down shortly." Murray replied. Esther glared but said nothing as she exited the room. Murray would pay for that statement later.
Enid raised an eyebrow at her father. His usual gentle, quiet nature now tinted with slight assertion. "How long?" He questioned after the door had closed. "Huh?" Enid replied absentmindedly needing farther clarification to penetrate her current state. "Wolves can't transform on the blood moon unless their mate or pups are threatened. It's the way it's always been. That's the reason this campus wasn't teaming with wolves that night. So, your mate Enid. How long? Don't worry I support you."Her father asked lovingly. This took Enid by surprise. "Since the day she walked into my room I think. But I only realized it yesterday." Enid collapsed onto her bed. "The Addams girl?" Her father asked. "Duh. How'd you guess?" Enid huffed. "Besides not wanting to leave without seeing her? I saw the way you looked at each other over parent's weekend. The assertiveness that seemingly came out of nowhere with your mother. That was from a wolf coming into her own." Murray grinned down at Enid. "Yup that's me, all assertive and stuff." Enid scoffed. "What about the gorgon boy? Arnold? Are you still seeing him?" Murray asked. Ignoring Enid's snarky remark. "Ajax, and yes I guess. We haven't officially broken up. I don't know dad. I thought I really liked him. I did like him, but my wolf doesn't. She wants Wednesday. I want Wednesday. I don't know what to do." Enid sighed. "There hasn't been a mate bite has there? For either of them?" Concern laced in Murray's words. He gulped. Enid shook her head no. "No. We haven't...you know. I haven't with anyone." Murray sighed in relief. "Dad what do I do now? I don't feel like I can leave. What if she comes back and I'm not here?" Enid whined. "Leave a note. Say everything that's in your heart. Leave your number and our address. We'll wait. I'll take your bags to the car and deal with your mother." Murray Sinclair stated clearly. A look of worry and concern flashed quickly across his face. "I will do just that. Thank you daddy!" Enid jumped up and kissed her father on the cheek. She still didn't feel well but she could fake it with the best. They'd never let her stay. This was a compromise she could handle. Murray smiled warmly at his daughter.
Enid opened her desk drawer. She took out a couple of pieces of fancy paper from the pack that Wednesday had given her and a pink sparkly gel pen. She poured her heart out. Enid confessed everything she had been feeling towards Wednesday. Everything. She invited her to come to San Francisco. She added her cell number, her landline number and her address. Three handwritten pages later, she signed it, 'Yours Always. Love Enid.' She added lip prints and smiley faces before placing it in an envelope writing Wednesday's name on it, and taping it to the split window. Standing in the doorway Enid looked back into the room one last time looking directly at the letter feeling slightly better before she closed the door and walked away.
A figure cloaked in shadow watched Enid as she retreated down the hallway. Ajax. He was about to knock. He had wanted to talk to her, about things but he had heard her talking to her father. He pressed his ear to the door and heard the conversation in it's entirety. Fuck Wednesday Addams. Ajax visibly bristled. He had hid as Murray exited the room. Now with Enid gone, he was on a mission. He had to find the letter. Ajax decided to try his luck. Enid was notorious for leaving her dorm unlocked. Eureka! He slid inside and glanced around the room looking for the letter. Once he noticed it, he stalked to the window. He ripped the letter from where it had been affixed. His first instinct was to destroy it but instead he opened it. A wave of sadness, anger, and frustration crashed over him. Enid loved Wednesday not him. That explained a lot. He refused to accept it. Wednesday would never get this letter. She would never get his girl. He shoved the letter into his pocket, turned, and stormed out of the room slamming the door behind him.
