Tiana
Domonic and I rode in silence as he drove me to work. It's been three days since Domonic had reached out to his mother and he'd been distant ever since. I knew he was going through a lot and I was trying to be understanding, but the distance was killing me. I wasn't used to him being so quiet.
"You okay?" I questioned, looking over at him.
"I'm good." He mumbled.
"You don't seem good." He sighed before speaking.
"Well I am."
I sighed. "Okay Domonic." I pulled out my phone, responding to one of Lexi's text messages.
He rubbed his hand down his face before speaking. "I'm not trying to be mean T, I just don't want to have to deal with this shit with my moms. I want to forget it ever happened."
"I understand, but I don't think that's possible. It's going to keep coming up until you deal with it. It's your choice whether you want to deal with it now or later but I think you should deal with it now." Him bottling up his feelings wouldn't do anything but cause a disaster.
"You're right, but I just can't desl with that shit right now."
"Well whenever you decide to deal with it I'll be there."
"I know." He picked my hand up, placing kisses on the back of it.
We arrived at the hospital a few minutes later. "See you later, have a good day." He spoke, causing me to smile.
"Thank you, you too." I leaned over, kissing his cheek and getting out of the car.
"Hey." Miyah, one of the nurses I worked with spoke as I approached the bench she was sitting at.
"Hey girl," I spoke. She got up, slinging her bag on her shoulder.
"I see your boo dropped you off." She smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"Stop calling him that."
"Nope, that is your boo." Instead of arguing with her I changed the subject. "Are you and some of your friends still going out tonight?" I questioned.
"Yeah, have you decided if you're coming or not?"
"Yeah, I'm coming."
"Yayyy, some of us are bringing our boyfriends so you can bring Domonic if you want." She smirked.
"Oh my gosh." I rolled my eyes. "I'll see if he wants to come."
"Alrighty." She sung.
My shift came and left quickly, before I knew it I was walking out to Domonic's car. I opened his car door, being greeted by rap music. He turned down the music as I slid in the car.
"Hey." I spoke, closing the car door.
"Wassup." He put the car in drive and pulled off.
"How was work?" Domonic questioned.
"Not too bad. How was your day?"
"It was alright, I didn't have that many appointments, so I chilled most of the day."
"That's good. Are you doing anything tonight?" I questioned.
"Nah, why?"
"I was invited out by my coworker, and I wanted to know if you wanted to go. It's going to be other guys there."
"I don't mind going. I haven't been out in a while." He confessed.
"That's not surprising." I chuckled.
"Why you say that?"
"Because you've never liked big crowds."
"True, but I go out every once in a while."
"Surprisingly." I mumbled.
"You make it seem like I'm just some boring nigga that just stays at home and works."
"I mean." I trailed off. He reached over mushing my head causing me to laugh.
When we arrived at my house, we said our goodbyes and parted ways. When I entered the house, I dropped my bag on the couch and headed straight into the bathroom. I turned the shower on and began stripping from my clothes. A hot shower was always my go to after a long shift at the hospital. It allowed both my mind and body to decompress.
After my much-needed shower, I made my way into my closet to see what I was going to wear tonight. I began looking through my dresses trying to decide on what to wear. I stopped searching when my eyes landed on a black backless mini dress. I grabbed it from the rack, placing it against my body. It would be perfect for tonight. I laid the dress out then went to pick some accessories to wear with it.
"Where are you going?" I practically jumped out of my skin at my mother's voice.
"God you scared me, I didn't know you were home." I spoke with my hand on my racing heart.
"Sorry, I got here while you were in the shower."
"Oh okay, but I'm going out with Domonic and some coworkers tonight."
"Ouu, that should be fun." She smiled.
"Yeah, it should be. How was work?" I questioned.
"Tiring." She chuckled.
"I understand."
"How was your day at work?"
"It was okay, not too bad."
"That's good, well I'll let you finish getting ready. Be safe."
"I will." I assured her.
A couple of hours later I was walking into the club with my hand in Domonic's. I led us through the club as I searched for Miyah and her friends. When I spotted the section they were in I made my way over.
"You made it!" Miyah smiled, standing to give me a hug. "You look good girl." She complimented as her eyes scanned down my body then back up to my face.
"Thank you, so do you." Miyah had on a jumpsuit that hugged her petite body perfectly.
"Thank you, let me introduce y'all to everyone."
"Y'all this is Tiana and Domonic. This is my boyfriend Khalil, my friend Serena and her boyfriend Malik, and Makayla."
"Domonic?" Makayla questioned.
"You know her?" I questioned, turning to Domonic.
"Yeah." Domonic answered. "Wassup Makayla." He spoke, before leading us over to a seat on the couch.
I leaned over speaking in his ear. "How do you know her?"
"She's my ex."
"Oh." I tucked my hair behind my hair.
I looked over in Makayla's direction and we made eye contact, she had already been looking at me. I quickly looked away, placing my eyes on the crowd of people on the dancefloor.
"Baddie, baddie shotaclock!" Miyah shouted, holding a bottle of Tequila. We all grabbed shot cups and she began pouring everyone a shot.
"One, two, three." Miyah counted down and everyone took their shot. I made a face as my chest began burning. I hated drinking, I only liked mixed drinks and wine and champagne.
"Another one!" She exclaimed. I sighed as she began pouring another round of shots.
A few shots later, I was tipsy and giggling. I leaned over, speaking in Domonic's ear. "Let's dance."
"You know I can't dance."
"Just come on." I laughed standing up and pulling my dress down.
I placed my arms around Domonic's neck as he placed his hands around my waist. His hands sat at just above my butt. "You would want to dance to R. Kelly's freaky ass." I chuckled. Honey Love was currently playing and even though I didn't like Robert Kelly as a person, I loved him as an artist. We were at a lounge that was for people over 25 and they played a variety of music from different decades.
"I like this song." I laughed, resting my head on his shoulder as we slow danced to the song. I looked over his shoulder, seeing Makayla watching us yet again.
"Your girl keeps staring at us." I whispered.
"Let her stare."
"Why aren't y'all together anymore?" I questioned curiously.
"She wasn't the girl for me."
"I don't think she knows that." I chuckled. "She looks like she wants to bite my head off."
"She's one of those people that doesn't want anyone else to have me if she can't."
"Well, it's a good thing I don't have you right?" I questioned, flicking my eyes up at him.
"Right."
I laid my head on his shoulder, deep in thought. I'd always wondered what it would be like to have Domonic as more than a friend. Fear of losing our friendship was the only thing that had kept me from exploring it. But the more we spent time together, the desire for him was overriding the fear. The desire had always been there, but it was now stronger than ever.
"What you thinking about pretty girl?" He questioned in my ear.
"Nothing." I lied. He sucked his teeth.
"Liar." He mumbled, causing me to laugh. "Whenever you get too quiet there's something going on in that big ass head of yours."
"I'm thinking about a lot Domonic." I confessed.
"Want to talk about it?" He questioned.
"We can talk about it later."
"Alright." I laid my head back on his shoulder and we continued dancing.
We danced for a few songs before going back over to the couch. The whole time Makayla's eyes burned a whole in our heads. When I'd gotten enough of her staring, I decided it was time for us to go. After the club, Domonique and I headed back to my place. When we arrived, Domonic put the car in park, turning to me.
"What was it that you were thinking about while we were at the club?" He questioned.
"I was hoping you would forget about that." I laughed, looking down at my lap.
"Nah, so start talking." I sucked my teeth before speaking.
I like you, Domonic." I confessed. "And I'm scared, I love our friendship and I don't want to lose you as a friend but the more I'm around you my feelings become stronger. I don't think I can hold them back any longer." Domonic softly lifted my chin, making me look at him. He didn't say a word as he moved in, kissing my lips softly.
"I've wanted you since we were kids Tiana." He confessed.
"Really?" He sucked his teeth.
"Don't act surprised." I laughed, biting my lip. It'd always been obvious that he liked me when we were younger. He was very jealous and possessive when it came to other boys trying to talk to me.
"Where do we go from here?" I questioned.
He shrugged. "We don't have to rush into a relationship or anything. We can just go with the flow."
"Before we go any further promise me that we'll remain friends no matter what happens."
"I promise."
"Pink promise?" I stuck out my pinky.
"Pinky promise." He smirked, linking his pinky with mine.
