There I was, sitting on my parents' couch, I had these things that grew on my back. Wings, WINGS? Who would have thought.
"Dad, mom. What is gonna happen now?" I asked, "sweetheart, we don't really know. But we do know that you don't understand how to use those wings or any other powers you may have." My mother said to me, worried, looking towards me and my father.
My father was looking sad that his daughter was a mutant, I knew he loved me. Of course, he did. It wasn't fair to him, but I couldn't help it, obviously. "There is this school in New York. Salem, New York. I briefly heard about it on an article I was reading. " My father said, looking focused on the floor. He can't even look at me.. I feel ashamed.
"So, that's gonna happen, I just started Yale, I... I finally started making friends. This is my second year, so why does this have to happen now.." I said as I rubbed my palms of my hands around my face.
"Honey," my mother said as she sat next to me. "This is for the best. We know this school is safe for people who have powers like you. I promise." She kissed my head. I just nod my head with tears in my eyes.
My dad went to go call the school for my registration, and as I leave Yale University behind me, my friends, and my old high school friends behind me.
The next day, my friend, since grade 8, Oakley, came by, I texted her the news about my departure. She was heartbroken.
"Dove? Why, why are you leaving." She said with a pout on her face.
"Don't freak out," I said, "I won't! I promise, " She looked so intrigued by what I had to say. We were in my bedroom, I stood up from my bed and revealed what I was hiding.
Oakley's mouth in an O shape. "Excuse me, WHAT ARE THOSE?" I giggled. "Wings, I guess I was a secret mutant." I shrugged.
"Like the ones they talked about on the news?" She said, still quite shocked.
"Yes, but my parents said that there is a school for people like me, Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters? I'm not really a youngster, though. I'm 20." I told Oakley.
"Maybe it is for the best," Oakley said with a sad smile. "I don't want you to get hurt or taken away for the wrong reasons. " She looked down at her fingers.
I gave Oakley a hug. "I'll miss you, and my parents. My parents want me to go, I know they are looking out for me."
Oakley just nodded and didn't say a word.
"I'll help you pack." Oakley said with a smile.
"Thank you. You are the best." I replied.
Heyo everyone, this is my first ever story, after being on this app for almost 11 years, I could never ever get the courage to write a story, probably cause I never thought of any good ideas. But I think this may be a good story? I'm not the best writer, but we'll see what happens :)
