(authors note - I am going to stop putting a small summary at the beginning of each chapter.)

The sky over Nevermore Academy was a dull, oppressive grey, heavy clouds threatening to unleash their wrath at any moment. The weather had been a bit off for the past few days, but tonight it seemed like the storm would finally break.

Inside the dormitory, Enid was curled up in a pile of blankets, a cup of tea clutched in her hands as she browsed through social media, but her mind was elsewhere. Her thoughts kept drifting toward the girl she knew—no, understood—better than anyone else in the world.

Wednesday Addams.

The girl had been acting distant all evening, a shadow of her usual self, and Enid couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. It was around midnight when she decided to check on her.

Quietly, she pushed open the door to the balcony. The wind bit at her skin as it whipped through the trees below, and she immediately spotted the tiny, raven-haired figure standing by the railing, her back to the door. She was soaked through, as though she had been out there for hours.

"Wednesday?" Enid called softly, stepping outside, a little hesitant.

Wednesday didn't move or acknowledge her presence. Her face remained impassive, her back still rigid. The sound of the rain pattering against the ground filled the silence between them. Enid's heart tightened, a rare sense of worry flooding her chest.

"Hey, you're going to catch a cold out here," Enid added, walking closer, her shoes splashing in the puddles. "What are you doing?"

Wednesday didn't answer immediately. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, as if contemplating her words. Then, in her usual deadpan tone, she finally spoke.

"I'm not going to get sick, Enid."

Enid couldn't help but scoff. "Oh, come on. You're standing out in the pouring rain. You will get sick."

"I'm not human, Enid," Wednesday replied flatly, her eyes narrowing as she finally turned to look at the other girl, her expression unreadable. "I don't get sick. Besides, I find the rain... calming."

Enid didn't know what to say to that. She could never fully understand the complexities of Wednesday's mind. But she did know one thing for sure: her friend had a tendency to downplay things, to push people away, to pretend everything was fine even when it clearly wasn't.

With a small sigh, Enid stepped closer, her brow furrowed. "Even if you don't get sick, you'll still be miserable out here. You're going to get drenched to the bone, and then you'll be freezing all night. Come inside, please?"

Wednesday didn't answer right away, just stared at her with that usual mix of indifference and something far deeper that Enid couldn't quite place. There was a flicker of something—a hint of vulnerability that Wednesday rarely allowed anyone to see.

Enid didn't wait for another reply. Without thinking, she grabbed Wednesday's arm and gently tugged her away from the balcony. For a moment, Wednesday resisted, as though she were an immovable force. But eventually, she let herself be pulled inside.

Once they were back in their dorm room, Enid guided her to sit on her bed and draped a blanket around her shoulders, brushing the wet strands of hair from Wednesday's face. She felt a slight chill in the air, and despite Wednesday's claims of invincibility, the girl was shivering.

"You're still cold, though," Enid said softly, sitting beside her, her voice laced with concern. "You don't have to pretend you're okay, you know. It's okay to need help."

Wednesday didn't look at her, her eyes fixed on the dark, raindrop-speckled window. "I'm fine," she muttered in that low, gravelly voice, as if trying to convince herself more than Enid.

But the next morning, Enid's concerns seemed to have been more than justified.

She woke up to the sound of soft coughing from across the room. Blinking sleepily, Enid sat up, instantly noticing the unusually heavy silence. Wednesday was curled up under the covers, her normally pale complexion a sickly shade of grey, her dark eyes dull and unfocused. The air around her was still, but there was a dampness to it—she wasn't just cold, she was... ill.

"Wednesday?" Enid's voice was gentle, but she couldn't hide the worry. "Are you okay?"

Wednesday, despite looking like she might collapse, still attempted her usual nonchalant response. "I'm fine," she muttered, pushing herself up, but her voice was hoarse and she swayed a little.

"You're not fine," Enid said, her voice sharp with a mix of concern and irritation. "You're sick."

Wednesday made an effort to stand, but her legs gave out, and she would have fallen to the floor if Enid hadn't caught her just in time.

"Wednesday!" Enid exclaimed, her heart racing. "You really need to rest. You don't need to be tough all the time. I'm here."

Enid helped her back into bed, pulling the blankets up to her chin. Wednesday tried to protest, her lips curling into a faint frown, but she had no strength left to resist.

"I don't need you to fuss over me, Enid," Wednesday muttered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Enid smiled softly, sitting at the edge of the bed and brushing a strand of hair from Wednesday's face. "Well, you've got me fussing anyway. You're stuck with me, Addams."

Wednesday's lips quirked slightly, as if she were about to make a biting remark, but the exhaustion on her face made her hesitate. She closed her eyes instead, allowing herself a rare moment of vulnerability.

"Fine," she said, her voice barely audible. "But only because I don't have the energy to argue."

Enid couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips. She reached for the glass of water and handed it to Wednesday, who accepted it with an almost reluctant grace. She was silent for a long moment, and Enid was content to simply sit there beside her, watching as her friend slowly began to rest.

"You know," Enid said softly, her voice full of affection, "for someone who says they don't need help, you're surprisingly good at letting me take care of you."

Wednesday's eyes flickered open, and she raised an eyebrow. "Don't get used to it, Lobo."

Enid chuckled. "No promises."

The two of them sat in the quiet for a while longer, the sound of rain softly tapping against the window and filling the room with its gentle rhythm. For once, the storm outside felt far less threatening than the one within, and Enid was grateful for the chance to be there for Wednesday, even if just for a little while.

"Get some sleep, okay?" Enid added, her voice warm and comforting. "I'll be here when you wake up."

Wednesday's eyes closed again, her breathing evening out. "Thank you," she murmured, almost inaudible, but enough to make Enid's heart flutter in a way she wasn't quite ready to admit.

And as the storm raged on outside, Enid stayed by her side, ready to keep her safe—even if Wednesday never truly admitted she needed her.
