AN: Alright here we go my dudes. What you need to know for this chapter that doesn't really get explained. I saw somewhere that Sigry was the previous Lightning Soul Rider. I also saw that the previous moon sister had a name. That name being Caroline. I have a little dog who comes with me and Lionchaser (my starter horse) during the main quests, so I decided that there are such things as Star Hounds. Starbreeds but dogs essentially. I also decided that Starbreeds and hounds live up until their Soul Partner dies and then they live out the rest of their lives, unless they bond with someone in the rest of their life time. Then they live until then. So I decided that the Soul Rider of the Dew Circle (what I've come to call the player characters circle) has a star hound. So Catherine's was a Caucasian Shepherd dog by the name of Bastion. This has turned into me rambling but there's the context for you guys. This story takes place about a month before the play character arrives on Jorvik. This story takes place about a month before the player character arrives on Jorvik. As always feed back, constructive criticism, and just general thoughts are always welcome. I want to know what I can do for you, the reader, to make my stories better for you.
The sleepy village of Dundull was quiet at this late hour. A young woman was putting away her horse's tack in the shed when she heard a car pull into the driveway. She grabbed her sight cane and emerged from the small shed. Car doors opened and shut.
"Who's there?" She barked.
"You must be Rania," a voice said.
It belonged to a woman around the same age as her mother. Rania was hit by the smell of expensive perfume.
"I am Eva Von Blyssen and my colleague here is Elizabeth Sunbeam, we wish to speak with your mother." the woman said.
Rania smelled roses and candy canes as the other woman stepped around the car to stand beside Eva.
"It is wonderful to meet you." the woman named Elizabeth said.
"Welcome, sisters," Rania heard her mom say as she stepped out onto the porch.
Sigry was a small muscular woman with coppery skin and orange colored hair, pulled into a tight bun. Her eyes were the color of storm clouds. At least that's what Rania remembered from before she lost her sight.
"Please come inside. I have prepared hot chocolate, just the way my mom used to." Sigry said.
Rania stepped carefully onto the porch. She felt her mother grab her arm and guide her through the door. She heard the other women stepping up onto the porch.
"Rania please grab some mugs for our guests and ourselves." Sigry instructed her daughter.
"Yes mama," Rania said, finding her way through the house.
Rania grabbed four mugs from the cupboard. Well, tried anyway. She couldn't reach the ones in the back and the dishwasher was running.
"Need help Rania?" a voice said.
"Ah!" Rania gasped, "Eiren! How long have you been standing there?"
"Not long, I was about to head out." Doctor Eiren Doyle said.
"Yes I would like some help. I'm just barely too short." Rania told her mother's girlfriend.
"I get it." Eiren said, walking beside Rania. "How many?"
"Four unless you're staying for hot cocoa then five." Rania said.
"Four mugs coming right up," Eiren said, grabbing them.
"Eva, Elizabeth, this is my girlfriend Eiren." Sigry said, entering the kitchen.
"It's wonderful to meet you." Eiren said, shaking hands with the newcomers. "As much as I would love to stay, I have to head out. I'm going up to the mountains of Jorvik to visit my home village."
"Oh, which village?" Elizabeth asked.
"Winter's Burrow," Eiren said.
"Ouch that's quite far. Hope you have a good visit," Eva said.
"Thank you, I hope you two have lovely evenings." Eiren said.
"You as well," Elizabeth said.
"Love you, drive safe. Have fun with your family. Give the furry one lots of love for me." Sigry said, gently kissing Eiren on the cheek.
"Yeah please don't die," Rania said.
Eiren chuckled, "I'll do my best Rania. You know I always give him extra hugs and kisses for you Sigry."
"Alright so what was it you wanted to talk with me about," Sigry said as soon as Eiren shut the door behind her.
"We have reason to believe that Caroline and Cathy are still alive." Elizabeth said while Sigry put the hot chocolate in the mugs.
Sigry paused. "I understand the Caroline part but Cathy?"
"Yes," Eva said.
"There are rumors going around that Justin Moorland has come into contact with his mother's dog but when approached he closed up about it. Refused to answer questions." Elizabeth said. "He didn't want to talk to me at all when I approached."
Sigry placed mugs down in front of Elizabeth and Eva and sat down. Rania could feel the tenseness in the atmosphere as she sat down by her mother.
"Then we find the dog." Sigry said, "At least I am. I won't rest until I find them. Eva, he could be the key to finding your daughter."
"I know. Another reason to find him. He could be the key to finding three of the most important people in my life. I never got to apologize to her." Eva said.
"None of us did." Elizabeth said.
"Then it's settled, we will begin the search soon." Sigry said. "I'll bring my ax just in case."
"I'll bring my guitar." Eva offered.
"Uh, I'll bring lunch, snacks, a medicine pouch, and candy canes." Elizabeth said.
"Classic Elizabeth and Eva," Sigry chuckled, pulling Rania in close and ruffling her hair.
"Classic Sigry. You're bringing your goddamn ax." Eva cried, laughing so hard Rania thought the woman was gonna fall out of her chair.
"An ax is an essential thing to have when you're a Varanger." Rania spoke up.
That made Eva laugh harder.
Elizabeth joined in the hysterics, "I see who she takes after Sigry." She managed to squeeze out between laughs.
