Kaitlyn's POV
It's Monday and I decide the best way to move past Damon is to go to school. My attendance has been a little spotty lately and I want to change that.
I enter my first period which is history to see they finally found a replacement for Mr. Tanner. I sit in my seat and wait for him to introduce himself to the class.
He writes his name on the chalkboard then turns around. "Hello, class. I am Alaric Saltzman. Your new history teacher."
Damon's POV
I really screwed up this time. I screwed up my chances with Kaitlyn and, to add to my growing pile of screw ups, I killed Lexi.
The only thing I have going for me right now is I have a way to unleash Katherine, but lately I'm not sure that's what I want to do. Why does everything have to be so damn complicated?
For now, I'm going to focus on getting that crystal from the Bennett witch. Then I can decide what I want to do with it.
I storm up to Bonnie smirking. "Just the witch I was looking for. Heard you have a necklace that is my key to unlocking the tomb. Hand it over."
"No," she refuses, trying to step around me. We're in the school parking lot and she's trying to get to her car that I'm blocking.
"Why do you want it? I bet that necklace has just been bad news for you. Am I right? Emily was quite a powerful witch. She's probably communicating with you through the talisman. It must be driving you insane. Let me help you. Give me the necklace," I demand reaching for it.
She backs away. "How do you know that?" she asks scared.
"Just a hunch. I'm done playing games. You hear me, Emily? Even when you're dead you're a real bitch. I better get that necklace or I'll have no problem ending the Bennett line."
"What?" Bonnie asks confused.
"Nothing. Just know that this isn't over. I tried to warn you. Remember that when Emily comes out to play again," I tell her slyly, stepping out of her path and opening the door to her car so she can get in.
Bonnie's POV
After Damon left, I waited in my car for Elena and Kaitlyn to show up. I told them I'd drive them home today.
Right now, we're driving towards their house with Elena in the passenger's seat and Kaitlyn in the back.
"Damon's after the necklace. He confronted me before you two got here." I shudder at the thought.
"Surprise, surprise," Kaitlyn says sarcastically. She's been acting like a royal bitch to everyone ever since Damon broke her heart and killed Lexi. I feel bad for her. Damon just keeps stringing her along. I wish she'd just up and realize how bad he is for her.
"Bonnie, you need to stay as far away from him as possible. We can't let him have that necklace," Elena says, ignoring Kaitlyn's comment.
"I have an idea. Why don't we just give him the stupid talisman and let Katherine and him run away into the sunset together," suggests Kaitlyn.
"We can't do that."
"Fine. Pull over."
"Pull over?"
"Pull over!"
I pull over the car as Kaitlyn demanded and she opens her door getting out. "Give me the necklace!"
"Kaitlyn, calm down and get back in the car," Elena commands, but we both know very well Kaitlyn is too stubborn to listen.
"You know what? No! I fell in love with Damon and it was the most amazing thing I've ever felt. No one ever made me feel the way he did. Then he broke my heart in the worse way possible. While I was so in deeply in love with him, he was in love with another woman; a woman who looks exactly like me! I gave him everything and now where am I? I have nothing left. Because of Damon I'll never be able to love again. So, he shouldn't be allowed to either!" she exclaims, reaching through the window and snatching the necklace away from my neck. She throws it into the field beside the car before I can protest.
Elena's POV
I have Stefan come over to my house to talk to me on the porch while Bonnie and Kaitlyn get ready for this sleepover we have planned.
"What's wrong, Elena?" asks Stefan, sitting down on the porch swing. I sit down beside him.
"Kaitlyn. We were driving home from school. Bonnie started talking about how Damon tried to take the Bennett Talisman away from her. The whole thing set Kaitlyn off. I've never seen Kaitlyn so heartbroken in my life. Damon broke my amazing, independent, strong-willed sister, Stefan and I don't know how to help her," I sob into his arms.
"Elena, look at me," he says, raising my chin softly. "I know you want to help her, I do too, but it's not our place to interfere. There are always risks when it comes to opening your heart up to someone else.
That's what love is. Jumping and hoping that person you love will catch you. It's a scary thing, but at the same time something magical. In Kaitlyn's case, she took that risk, but Damon didn't catch her."
"That's quite the comparison," I laugh, wiping away my tears.
"Well, isn't that slim chance of finding love worth the risk?"
"I don't know. Tell me something. Did you catch me?"
"Most definitely," he smiles, leaning in.
"Then yes. It's worth the risk," I answer him, filling the gap between us and connecting our lips.
Kaitlyn's POV
"Bonnie, I'm sorry about earlier. Throwing the necklace away like that. I let my emotions get the best of me," I apologize to Bonnie. I feel awful about what I did. I just couldn't stand the thought of Damon getting his happy ending when I don't.
"Don't apologize. That necklace was giving me nightmares. We both wanted it gone," Bonnie says smiling.
"Well, I think we're safe as long as Damon doesn't go wondering in a wheat field," laughs Elena. "You guys want to do manicures? Who has their kit?"
"Mine's in my bag," answers Bonnie.
I nod and dig through Bonnie's purse for the kit. What I find is something I never wanted to see again. "Uh...Bonnie?"
"What? Did you find it?"
"No, I found something else." I hold up the amber crystal and everyone looks as shocked as I am.
"How?"
"Emily."
"You mean your ancestor? You think she did this?" I ask astonished.
"She's been messing with my head and now this. What does she want from me?"
"I'm not sure. I have a crazy idea. How about we have a séance?"
"Uh...Kaitlyn..."
"Come on. You got a better idea?"
We all gather in Elena's room. I can't believe we're actually doing this.
"So what now?" asks Bonnie.
"I think we concentrate and summon her."
"Emily, you there?"
"You have got to be kidding me. That was pathetic!"
"Calm down. Try again, Bonnie," says Elena, shooting me angry glares.
"Emily, I call on you. What is it you want me to hear?"
I look around and see the candles brighten. Oh my God! This is actually working.
"You all saw that too?" questions Bonnie.
We nod. "Ask her to show you another sign."
"Emily, if you're among us, show us."
Nothing happens.
"See, it's not working!" exclaims Bonnie.
The windows burst open.
"I'm sorry. This is all too much!" Bonnie throws the talisman on the ground in fear.
"Someone get the light!" shouts Elena.
I scurry to the light switch and flick it on to see Bonnie and Elena's terrified faces. "What?"
"The necklace is gone."
"Someone must have taken it," suggests Bonnie. "Kaitlyn?"
"Hey! I didn't do this!" I snap back, defending myself.
"Jeremy, is that you?" asks Elena going into the hallway. I follow her. I don't know what she saw, but Jeremy isn't home.
"Guys!" Bonnie screams.
"Bonnie! Bonnie! What's happening?"
"Bonnie!" I yell pounding on the bathroom door with Elena.
"Come on, Bonnie! Open the door!"
"Bonnie! Bonnie! Please..."
Suddenly, the door flies open and Bonnie stands there with her head in her hands.
"Are you okay?" asks Elena frantically.
"I'm fine," answers Bonnie in a monotone voice. Something's wrong here.
"Bonnie, you don't seem fine," I contradict her statement.
"I'm fine. Everything's fine."
"Bonnie! Where are you going?"
"I must go."
"Uh. That doesn't answer my question."
"Thank you for having me. I'll take it from here."
"Take what from here? You're not acting like yourself. Where are you going?"
"Back to where it all began."
As she says those words it all clicks in my head, but Elena beats me to the punch, "Oh my God! Emily!"
"I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed."
With that, Bonnie/Emily leaves the house. I turn to Elena confused at ever what we should do. She pulls out her phone and calls Stefan.
I'm sick of always relying on the Salvatores to fix all our problems. I storm past Elena and out of the house. I know exactly where she's going. Fell's Church. The place where it all began.
Damon's POV
I overheard Stefan on the phone with Elena. Emily's possessing Bonnie's body and is going to Fell's Church to destroy the necklace. I have to stop her.
I arrive at Fell's Church and smirk at Emily, "Hello, Emily."
"You can't do this."
"Uh, yes I can. You're the one who imprisoned the vampires below the church. This was the plan all along, Emily."
"Plans change. Things are different now. I need to protect my own. Unleashing those abominations would put my descendants at risk. I can't have that."
I make a move to attack her, but she uses her magic to impale me into a tree.
Kaitlyn's POV
I arrive at Fell's Church and my heart drops at what I see: Bonnie, I mean Emily, just flung Damon into a nearby tree causing a branch to puncture his stomach.
A yelp makes its way up and out of my throat at the sight. Thank God, Stefan appears and pulls Damon off the tree branch.
"Hello, Stefan," greets Emily, smiling slightly like some evil villain. I've never seen Bonnie make an expression anywhere close to this, so it makes my stomach twist in knots.
"Emily," says Stefan, acknowledging her. She nods.
"I can't let you free them from their imprisonment. I can't."
"Come on, Emily. You know I only want Katherine," smirks Damon and his words sting more than I would like them too.
"With one, comes all."
"You're telling me that by releasing Katherine you also unleash the other 27 vampires that were meant to burn in the church?" asks Stefan in astonishment.
"Yes, Stefan. I won't let that happen." Suddenly, Emily begins to chant. Flames ignite around her and she throws the necklace into the air. Within seconds it explodes and the fire dies down.
I watch as Bonnie reawakens and Emily leaves her body. I sigh in relief, but then I see Damon extend his fangs. He's going to kill Bonnie!
Without time to think clearly, I do the only thing that comes to mind. I jump between Bonnie and Damon and take the blow for her.
