Dean Winchester locks up the door to the Roadhouse and heads on home, making sure to text his brother first to let him know he's on his way. He pulls his jacket around him as the air is chilly.
It was around 2am, Dean had to stay at the bar taking stock checks since he forgot to do it that weekend, so on a Sunday night he had to stay late when he'd much rather be in his warm bed.
The walk home was only around ten minutes and once he got to the front door, he fumbled around for his keys, proceeding to unlock the door. Sam was on the couch, stirring as he heard the front door slam shut. "Dean what took you so long?" He whispered, his voice was hoarse, showing he had just woken up.
"The stock check took longer than I thought." Dean shrugged. "I told you, you should have let me help." "I didn't need help, especially since you're starting college tomorrow and need your beauty sleep Sasquatch." Dean winked and ruffled Sam's hair, causing Sam to push him off.
"Anyway Sammy, I'm going to bed, night." "Night." Dean opened his bedroom door and walked in, flopping himself onto the bed without getting undressed. They had moved into the apartment about a week ago, for a fresh start, so that Sam could go to college like he always wanted to, Dean was going to do most of the hunting now so Sam can have a chance at a normal life.
Although Dean didn't care about his own education, he wanted Sam to have the best. They were in Kansas, their home town, and Dean had taken time out when not hunting to work at the Roadhouse, working alongside Jo and Ellen; the owners. When Dean wasn't working or hunting, he needed to work on his 'baby' which was his black 67 Chevy' Impala.
That night, Dean dreamt about his mum and how much he missed her. His dreams started off as happy memories but soon turned into a nightmare once it turned to how she died. He woke up around 5am panting heavily and in a cold sweat. He was screaming and Sam came running into the room. "Dean?! What's wrong? Another nightmare?" Dean nodded before moving over so Sam could sit on the edge of the bed.

Dean was awoken by Sam's alarm at 6am which meant he only had an extra hour sleep. He looked towards the floor and saw Sam smiling up at him. "Sam why did you stay in here?" "In case you had another nightmare." "I'm the big brother, I look after you, not the other way around." Sam chuckled in return.
"Okay Dean I'm going into college at 9am so I'll wake you up again at eight okay?" Dean nodded. "But why are you up early?" "I am going for a jog and doing my morning stretches, also I need to go see Bobby quick."
Dean said his goodbyes to Sam and went back off to sleep.
He could see him mum, Mary, in the distance, in a green field, he tried to run towards her and reach for her but she kept moving further away the closer Dean got, he managed to get close and then she burst up in flames.
Dean woke up screaming again and Sam rushed into the room. "Dude I was about to wake you up, what's wrong?" Dean was panting heavily. "I...ha...had...a...ano...another..." "Nightmare?" Sam finished off. Dean nodded and buried his head in a pillow.
"Dean it's gonna be okay, why don't you take a look around campus with me today?" Dean shook his head. "I promised Jo I'd help out at the Roadhouse since Ellen has some errands to do." "Okay man, I'll be back by four, I don't have any classes since I'm just being shown about."
Once Sam had left, Dean got dressed and headed to the car shop. He was greeted by Bobby. "Hey Dean." "Hey Bobby." Dean wanted to work on his baby for a while.
He continued working on the car with Bobby until four. "Hey Bobby, I'm going now, see ya." Dean waved at Bobby and headed down the road to the Roadhouse. He was greeted by Ellen who was just heading out.
He went into the back room and changed into his work outfit which was a short sleeve black t-shirt and black trousers. The front door opened and three people stepped in. They sat at a nearby table and Dean went over.
It was a short black haired boy who was wearing a trench coat, a blonde haired boy and a red haired girl. The red head was the first one to speak. "Hi I'm Anna, I haven't seen you here before?"
"I'm Dean, I recently moved back here with my brother and I started working here at the Roadhouse with Jo and Ellen." "Oh well nice to meet you, this is Gabriel." She pointed at the blonde haired boy. "And this is Cas." She pointed at the black haired boy.
"Castiel." He corrected her. Dean greeted them and shook their hands, then proceeded to take their orders. He gave the order list to Jo and she made the drinks. Dean headed back over to the table with the drinks and placed the tray on the table. "Two cokes and a J2O for Cas." Dean smiled. "Castiel." Cas corrected him. "Right...sorry." Dean walked back to the counter and waited until Anna came up to the bar to pay.
"Sorry about Cas, he's shy. Anyway here's the money, see ya tomorrow." "Tomorrow?" Jo walked over to them. "Yeah Dean, Anna and her brothers come in here all the time after college." "Oh, well I'll see you tomorrow then."
The rest of the day, Dean spent working. It was 12am when Jo had said it was time to close up. He walked her home then headed to the flat. "Sammy I'm home!" "Hey Dean." Sammy shouted back. "What are you still doing up Sammy?" "Dean, I'm a grown man, I can sleep whenever I want, plus I'm making sure I have everything ready for my first proper day of lessons."
"Cool. Did you make any friends?" "Yeah one, Castiel." Dean thought back to earlier that day when he had met Castiel. There was something about him that stood out, maybe it was his defined cheekbones or his bright blue eyes, or maybe even the way he ran his fingers through his hair.
Dean shook his head and brought himself back to reality. "Oh I met him earlier, in the coffee shop, he was with his brother Gabriel and sister Anna who is hot may I add?" Sam laughed and threw a cushion at his brother.
"Shut up Dean, right I'm going to bed, want me to stay in your room tonight?" Dean shook his head. "Dude I told you, you don't need to look after me." "Well I want to make sure you're okay."
Dean went into his room and laid down on his bed. He kicked off his shoes and rested his head on his pillow and drifted off into sleep. Sam was awake in his room on his laptop searching up sleep remedies for Dean to help ease his nightmares which he was getting so much more often lately, ever since they moved back to Kansas.
He decided to text Castiel even though it was late. "Hey Castiel, sorry that it's so late but I was wondering if you have any sleep remedies that help with nightmares?" Sam placed his phone down and it vibrated within a minute.
"Why? Are you okay?" Sam couldn't help but giggle. "It's not for me, it's for my brother Dean." Cas was sitting in his own bed and couldn't help but feel sorry for Dean. "Oh. I have a remedy, I'll give it to you tomorrow." Cas put his phone on charge and drifted off into his own sleep.
Lucifer came striking towards Castiel with blood all over his white shirt and a silver blade in his hand. Castiel cowered in the corner. "Please leave me alone, I'm your brother, why are you doing this?" Lucifer spat in his eye and laughed in his face. "You're no brother of mine." He reached his hand forward and stabbed the knife into Castiel's gut.
Castiel woke up panting and screaming. Gabriel came running into the room. He cradled Cas in his arms. "Shh, shh it's okay I'm here now, did you forget to take the remedy Balthy made you?" Cas nodded. Gabriel stroked Cas' hair in order to try and calm him down.
Castiel awoke the next morning with a splitting headache. The events of last night came flashing back to him. He walked into the kitchen and saw Gabriel cooking. "Gabe, I'm sorry about last night, you didn't have to come in to me by the way." Gabriel turned to face Castiel. "Cas, I wanted to, you're my little brother and I'm gonna protect you like family does or is supposed to." "Me too!" Anna chimed in. Cas and Gabe turned to face her, not even noticing before that she was in the room.
Castiel met Sam later that morning at the school grounds. "Hey Castiel, I hope you don't mind my brother Dean tagging along, he wants to see the campus." Castiel nodded. "That's fine." Castiel led the way into campus with Sam and Dean following shortly behind.
Sam stopped once they got to reception. "Guys, I've got my first day of classes today and I kind of don't want to miss it, so Castiel could you show Dean round on your own?" "Yes that's fine Sam. I'll see you later." Sam nodded before running off to his class.
Dean waved after him. "So, Cas lead the way." "Castiel." He corrected him and started walking. "Right...I forgot...again."
The rest of the day, Castiel showed Dean around campus till around 4pm. "So Cas, you going to the Roadhouse?" Cas sighed. He couldn't be bothered to correct Dean anymore. "Most likely. I'll probably be meeting Anna and Gabriel there." "Can I walk with you? We could meet Sam there? I'll text him." Castiel nodded. Dean proceeded to text Sam.
They started walking to the Roadhouse. "So Cas, what do you like to do?" "Read, write, go to the Roadhouse, help people, how about you?" "Well I like working on my car and hunting, but I have a priority to look after Sammy, so I don't really have time to do much else." "But surely since he's now in college you have time?" "I guess, I don't really know what I like, never had any real friends either that I could hang out with." Cas couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him.
***
When Dean and Castiel walked into the Roadhouse, Gabriel, Anna and Sam were all sitting at a table laughing amongst themselves. Dean went straight to the bar whilst Castiel joined the table. Sam furrowed his eyebrows.
"Where's Dean?" "He went to the bar." Sam nodded. "So Gabe what happened next in your story?" "Well he woke up and said 'what did I miss?'" Gabriel, Anna and Sam all burst out in giggles whilst Castiel sat there awkwardly, since he only heard the end part of the story.
He fidgeted with his hands until Dean came over and slid in the booth next to him. "So I got us all hot chocolates from the back." They each took a mug and said thank you. Gabriel took a sip of his drink and nearly spat it out.
"HOLY FUCK THAT'S HOT!" Everyone in the bar turned to stare at him, Gabriel apologised. "So Sam, Dean, I'm having a party this Friday, and I'm known for having the best parties aren't I Anna?" Anna nodded. "The best." She repeated. "Would you guys like to come?"
Castiel interrupted before Dean and Sam got chance to answer. "Gabriel, I think they-" "So what do you guys say?" Dean looked at Castiel apologetically.
"Yes we'd love to! Right Dean?" Dean looked at Castiel who seemed more interested by his hands. Dean was desperate to see Cas again, and maybe this was his chance? "Yeah sure, we'd love to, I have to make sure I'm not working though." Sam frowned. "Ask Jo to cover?" "My other job, Sam." "It can hold off for a few days surely. We'll be there." "It's settled then, I'll text Sam the details."

A/N:
So this is the first part, not much has really happened so far, but hopefully it will get more exciting later on in the story.
I know this chapter is really long but the rest won't be as long or do you like them long?
I will try and update this fanfic at least once a week for whoever reads it but since I have work it might be hard.
Please vote as it would be so helpful! Also comment as I'd love to hear your opinions so far!
