The universe is a massive, immersive place. That is undeniable in such large bodies of evidence. Science has proven that through theories which try to explain what is out there. Mathematics have given way to new concepts that revolve around the idea that everything has a definite shape and dimensional appearance. Triangles and rectangles and spheres. Spheres that are planets and suns and stars and asteroids.
Physics tries to explain the reason why the universe exists and how it operates. Gravity holds the universe together, keeping the contents from flying all over the place. Space exists so that physical material and energy can exist and inhabit it. Time keeps everything going at a calculated and synchronized rate. All of this comes to a head when the greatest and most believed in concept of the universe is brought up.
The concept of reality.
Reality is the source of all of this, every universe, every atom, and every you. It was reality that birthed out the universe we live in during the Big Bang, expanding it in a time less than one second. After that, reality was the thing that the remains of planetary collisions were impacting within and the backdrop for the creation of the Earth. In half of a second, reality was the mother of every element and matter that has ever existed. Reality was there when the first single-celled organism multiplied and eventually transformed into the first living creature.
Reality was there when our distant ancestors huddled in caves and in trees, staring up at the night sky in wonder and fear. Fear at what things could lie in wait for them to discover and encounter. Things that they called gods, monsters, demons. Things that tear at your mind like a rip in cloth. And reality was there when the first caveman discovered fire.
Soon, humanity took over the center stage, shoving reality into a backdrop. Humanity then evolved to become intelligent to the point of learning how to hunt. We created weapons of stone and wood, created the first cave drawing, developed the necessary tools for survival. We created the first wheel, hunted down animals with teeth as big as ourselves until they simply didn't exist anymore. We built homes, then churches, then societies. We became a civilization that has thrived for God only knows how long.
Soon, we created beliefs that transformed into religions. Ideas of the gods, monsters, and demons fighting a benevolent power for control over our souls. Devils fighting Gods. We soon branched out into our own separate groups on different continents. The Mayans believed in human sacrifices and sun gods. Christians believe in one God and his almighty son. Many other religions sprung up too, some different and yet some were the same.
We created demons.
In the 1600's, fear of those demons drove an entire village known as Salem, Massachusetts to hang innocent women and men for being strange. The American colonists feared God and they feared him greatly. Sinners go to the flames of Hell, the righteous go to the pearly gates of heaven. Fears echoed down until the day when the age of belief came to an end.
Sir Isaac Newton discovered physics and gravity thanks to an apple. Space was discovered thanks to the first telescope. Elements were discovered and chemistry was no longer called alchemy. Electricity was discovered thanks to a kite. The first phone was created by Alexander Gram Bell. Then, light bulbs. Soon, science took over the world that had once been ruled over by belief. The fear of gods and monsters was replaced by a belief in logic and reason. A belief in normalcy.
When we first went into space during the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union, we breached the heavens and went to the moon. We found no heaven but only a small body of rock that orbits our planet which in turn orbits around a giant star we call the Sun. That Sun is not the center of the universe but rather an insignificant dot compared to the awesome grander of the universe.
A universe so infinite.
Normalcy is what we think of when we think about our universe and its contents. The human race believes in reason and logic instead of magic and the divine. The idea of reality as a stable element binding together the universe and keeping it from tearing itself apart is so well spread and widely believed by every human on this planet that it seems like a certainty. Reality exists solely for keeping everything together. For stabilizing the normally chaotic universe into being understood. We all believe that.
It's a certainty, to humanity, that everything has a reason. The universe is in order all the time and is never self-destructive. Nothing is random and nothing breaks the laws of nature itself. Gravity will always make sure something that goes up must always come down eventually. Physics explain how the universe is constantly expanding. Time explains how every phenomena and event passes by at a never-ending continuity. All these things are the basis of the universe itself. Reality will always persevere. Reality is inconvertible.
However, if you really stop to think about it, reality isn't inconvertible. Events happen in the universe that defy order and distort reason. Things that exist yet shouldn't exist at the same time. Glitches in the system we call reality.
People report seeing things in the woods or in the depths of lakes all over the world. Creatures that defy every inch of reason and that actively seek out humans. Creatures that, despite the laws of reason and nature, do not leave corpses and elude observation and study by mankind without any shred of evidence. Like the Sasquatch in North America, or the jersey devil in the Pine Barrens, or the Loch Ness Monster in Loch Ness, Scotland.
But the glitches don't stop there. Places too can be the sites of anomalies. Like the Bermuda Triangle, a cozy little space between Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and Florida where countless ships and planes- along with people- have disappeared without a trace. No violent deaths, no wreckage from crashed planes or sank ships, no distress calls. Nothing but people vanishing into thing air like an illusion.
Countless other glitches occur around the world, from disembodied laughter or singing coming from nowhere to unexplained and often gruesome deaths of innocent people around dark woods. Science can't explain it. The idea of reality can not even stand underneath such unexplained phenomena. The laws of nature are casually broken by things that don't make any logical sense, by things that our ancestors called monsters and gods and demons and evil spirits. The universe does not even blink an eye to these events and turns the other cheek. Like the unexplained is a part of reality.
Be careful when exploring this great world and reality of ours. Because after all, there are strange things out there.
