Dan's POV

The day my father came home added excitement to one of the best weeks I'd had in a long time. Everything was finally going great. Greyson and I were finally in a good place and we just couldn't get enough of each other. Greyson was the aggressor in this of course. He would randomly pull me into closets and kiss me senseless, grab my ass when no one was looking, or rub my thigh in class when the teacher turned away. It was driving me sexually insane. Not to mention the ravenous glances he kept throwing my way during our volunteering at Sunnyside Elementary. Chris noticed it too.

One day during volunteering every time I looked up Greyson would be staring at me longingly without blinking for long periods of time with this knowing smirk on his face. I blushed under his striking gaze, his grey eyes piercing something deep inside of me. It got to the point where Chris pulled me aside and asked if we wanted to leave early, because that amount of sexual tension should never be in the same room as a bunch of innocent children. He was joking of course, but I was completely mortified that even he could see it. I hadn't gone that far sexually with Greyson yet, but I knew that after tonight things had the possibility of escalating. Greyson was going to meet both of my parents. Something I was extremely excited and nervous about.

My mother didn't possess any kind of filter. She had the ability to ask incredibly pervasive questions unthinkingly. I was afraid she'd ask questions about Greyson that he would be uncomfortable in answering. She was also incredibly over protective of me and didn't want to see me get hurt, especially because this was my first real boyfriend. I've always known that I was gay but I'd never actually dated anyone before. So this was something new for both me and my mom. I knew that my father would be a lot calmer than my mother and I was really anxious to see him because I knew he'd have the answers on how to proceed in this relationship with Greyson.

My father is a wise man who seems to have the best advice for any situation. So I knew he'd be able to help. He also just set our entire house at ease with his presence. He was the glue that kept this family together. He worked just to keep my mother and I living the stable lives that we've been living for so long. It was all thanks to him that we weren't out on the streets eating out of dumpsters. I knew my mother was extremely happy to see him also. She started singing around the house again, something she only did when my father was around. It meant that she was really happy, and it was nice to see my mother happy instead of worrying all of the time.

I was helping my mother get dinner started around 5 pm when the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it!" I said running to the front hallway. I thrust open the door, and there stood the guy I loved seeing everyday looking breathtakingly handsome as usual.

I stood there taking him all in. He was dressed in a dark blue button down shirt which brought out his eyes more than usual and dark jeans, with an expensive looking silver watch on his right hand and his hair more groomed than usual. He smelled amazing like some kind of expensive Calvin Klein cologne. He was also dressed in his famous smirk with a familiar glint in his eye signaling that he was looking me over the same way I was doing to him. I blushed and looked away

"You look hot." Greyson said taking a step into the doorway. It was my house and my parents so I didn't bother wearing anything extravagant. I was just wearing a nice shirt and jeans and my favorite sneakers. A slight step up from my usual hoodie and jeans. I refused to meet Greyson's eyes because I knew my face was burning crimson red. I could feel his familiar warmth so close. He was right in front of me, staring down at me waiting for me to look at him. Finally, I took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. I mentally cursed as my heart sped up to one hundred beats a minute.

"You don't look half bad yourself." I said jokingly.

Greyson reached for my cheek and dragged his index finger across it and down to my jaw line, tipping my face up to his.

"Thank you for inviting me to dinner. It really means a lot, babe." He said staring at me intensely.

I completely forgot how to speak the English language for a second. "Anytime." I said completely lost in the moment. Then Greyson leaned down and connected his lips with mine. Kissing me softly and slowly but passionately all at once. I felt myself truly falling in love with this guy. He was everything to me. As his arms wrapped themselves around my waist pulling me against his warm body I knew that I would do anything to make sure we would stay together forever.

Suddenly there was loud squealing. Greyson and I jumped away from each other completely caught off guard.

"You two are so fucking adorable, oh my gosh!!!" My mother screamed from just a few feet away.

"I can't believe this. Stay right there while I go grab the camera!" She yelled running into the living room like a maniac.

"Greyson meet my mom." I said sarcastically gesturing to the spot she just disappeared from.

"I see the resemblance." Greyson said laughing.

"I personally think he resembles me more." A familiar deep voice said from behind us.

I turned around to see my father standing in the doorway.

"Dad!" I said running up to him and embracing him in a big hug. I hadn't seen him in months.

"Hey son." He said hugging me back.

I took a step back beaming. "Greyson meet my father."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. 'O Connor." Greyson said shaking his hand. My dad smiled at him and pulled him into a tight hug to. That was my  dad for you; extremely friendly and welcoming to everyone.

"You can call me David. I can't wait to talk to you more over dinner."

"Same here." Greyson said smiling after my Dad released him from his tight embrace.

"Now where is my beautiful wife?" My Dad said walking down the hallway and into the living room.

"She's went into the living room to find the camera." I said leading him down the hallway into the living room where my mom was busy rifling through the pile of mess on our coffee table searching for a camera.

My dad walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"I've missed you so much Maureen." He said turning her around.

"David!" My mom shouted in happiness, throwing her arms around his neck and sobbing into his shoulder.

My cheeks turned red in embarrassment at the amount of affection my parents were showing in front of us.

"Sorry about all the old people PDA we just don't get to see my Dad that much because of his job." I explained looking over at Greyson who was surprisingly entranced by the entire episode.

"Earth to Greyson" I said waving my hands in front of his face.

"Sorry babe." He said snapping out of it. "I just think it's really cool that your parents care so much about each other. I've never seen mine act that way."

I nodded in understanding. I could never imagine Greyson's mom displaying that much affection to anyone.

I cleared my throat though when my parents started making out.

"Excuse me, but we are still here." I said gesturing to Greyson and I.

"Oh my gosh!" My mom said jumping away. "Sorry we forgot you two were still there."

"Clearly" I said snickering.

"Well dinner is ready, let's go eat."

My Dad helped my mom serve the food which was one thing I always admired about him. He didn't think that cooking or kitchen duties was a woman's job. He didn't believe in the classic American domestic duties at all. He helped my mother with everything even when she didn't want help. He knew she was perfectly capable and independent of doing everything on her own, but he simply enjoyed helping her.

I remember him explaining to me that a woman is a princess and should be treated as such. That advice was wasted on me though since I ended up liking guys. But I still admired their relationship anyway. I could see Greyson and I being like them one day.

After the food was served, which was my favorite dish (shrimp and chicken fettuccine Alfredo) we all sat around the table and began to eat.

Greyson sat next to me, my father sat at the end of the table and my mother sat across from us. She eyed Greyson with a challenging look that made me nervous.

"So Greyson, what about you makes you good enough to be with my son? She said casually between a bite of pasta as if she was simply asking about the weather.

"Mom!" I yell exasperatedly. I knew this was going to happen.

"Shutup Daniel and let him answer." My mom said shooting me a threatening look.

"Maureen leave the boy alone." My dad said laughing at the situation.

"No Mr. Connors, it's okay I'll answer." Greyson said confidently.

My mom crossed her arms and waited expectantly for his answer.

"I've had a crush on Daniel since the first time I laid eyes on him. He just has this presence that just makes the entire world seem like a better place. He's so kind to everyone he meets, and he is so comfortable with who he is. I admire him so much for that. I would never want to hurt or lose him and I would do anything for him. I would go through hell just to stay by his side. Mr. And Mrs. Connors I'm in love with your son."

Greyson said all of this while looking me straight in the eyes the entire time. I blushed crimson red that he just confessed his love for me in front of my parents. But I couldn't deny that my heart was beating really fast and I wanted to throw myself in his arms like a crazy person. The only thing that kept me in my seat was the fact that my parents were there.

My mother looked as if she was about to cry. My dad was beaming at Greyson from across the table.

"You are now officially apart of this family Greyson Grey. Anyone who loves my son is a keeper in my book." My mother said walking around the table and pulling him into a tight hug.

"I feel the same way." My dad said.

Everything was happy but as my father stared across the table at everyone I noticed that his bright smile began to falter. It faltered until it turned into a complete frown.

"Dad what's wrong?" I said alarmed.

"Maureen, Greyson, Dan." He said looking at all of us. "I'm sorry for having to ruin the positive mood but there is something that I have to share with you."

"David what?" My mother said also looking nervous.

"I wanted to wait to tell you guys but-"
My father said shaking his head. He was looking down at the table now.

"David?" My mother said reaching across the table and putting her hand on top of his encouragingly.

"The reason why I came home so suddenly is because I've been fired from work."

The room got eerily silent.

"Fired?" I said. "That's impossible. You are the best worker at the company." I felt a weight in my stomach.

"Apparently my boss didn't think so. He said that my job performance had been slacking lately so he had to let me go."

I looked over at my mother whose hands were covering her mouth. She slowly got up from the table shaking her head, and exited the kitchen.

This was our worst fear. If my dad lost his job we would lose everything. My eyes met Greyson's who looked completely shocked. We both knew who had done this.

"Excuse me boys. Daniel I'm going to go talk to your mother."

I felt my hands shaking uncontrollably and I tried clasping them together to get them to stop.

"Daniel?" Greyson said worriedly touching my arm.

I shook my head and stumbled out of my chair heading for my room. I couldn't think straight. My father was fired from his job. Our only source of income was gone. By the end of the month we would be out on the street.

I made it into my room just in time to sink to the ground. At this point my whole body was shaking. The weight that was in my stomach now felt as if it was on top of my chest. I couldn't breathe. I clutched at my chest gasping for air.

I didn't know that Greyson had followed me into my room.

"Daniel breathe." He said soothingly while rubbing my back.

"Remember what we practiced? Breathe in slowly then breathe out."

I tried to do as he said but I couldn't focus on breathing.

"Everything is going to be okay." Greyson said wrapping his arms around me and pulling me so that I was sitting between his legs and my back was against his front. He rocked me back and forth. "Everything is going to be okay." He repeated.

I felt myself finally calming down. After awhile I realized there were tears streaming down my face.

"Daniel I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. Don't worry I'm going to fix this. Everything is going to be okay."

"It's not your fault Greyson, it's mine." I said shakily.

"No! Dan it's not. My mother-"

"She warned me to stay away from you and I didn't. This is my fault. Greyson you need to leave."

"Dan please. Don't do this. Don't let her win." Greyson said standing up and then kneeling in front of me trying to force me to look at him. But I refused.

"Greyson it's not about her winning. It's about protecting my family. I can't be with you anymore." I said blankly staring at the floor.

"Dan, just calm down and listen, I love you and I refuse to let her tear us apart. Please just-"

I covered my ears like a five year old. I couldn't do this anymore. Hearing him say that he loved me was only tearing me apart inside when I knew what I had to do.

"Get out! Get out! Get out!" I yelled repeatedly. I couldn't allow myself to be selfish and continue to be with Greyson when I knew it would result in my family being hurt. I simply couldn't. As much as it killed me inside we could no longer be together.

I screamed it until I heard the door to my room shut, and then I curled into a ball and sobbed until I fell asleep.

And the angst begins.
