I was furious. Why would Marie going around telling everybody that Zac was cute? Nobody thought he was cute until she came along. Everybody is trying to steal him from me. I won't let that happen.
Not like he wants me anyway...
But I wanted him.
I saw Marie standing at the end of the hallway with s brunette chick just smiling and laughing away. God knows what's coming her way once I got ahold of her. I started storming over there but I was stopped.
He smiled down at me. "Hey, you ready to go?"
I stood on my tip toes to get a good look at Marie to make sure she wasn't going to leave. I tried to push past him but it didn't work. He gripped my shoulder, looking over to make sure Marie was gone.
Why in the world would he freaking do that? Now I'm never gonna know what is actually going on. William shook my shoulder gently.
"Don't worry about her, Mer. She isn't worth the time," he tried to look into my eyes. "Are you ready to go?"
I didn't say anything so he just took that as a yes.
**
"What movie do you want to watch?" William was looking through my movie pile, making movie suggestions that I just kept waving off.
All I kept thinking about was Zac and Marie. I couldn't stop over thinking about them. What if Zac broke his promise and went behind my back to text Marie? What if he actually isn't sick and is hanging out with her right now? I squirmed at the idea.
No.
He wouldn't do that. He wouldn't break a promise. He never has so why would he start over some girl he doesn't even know?
Maybe I'm just over exaggerating. Maybe there's nothing going on and maybe now people actually just think he's cute? I still have a problem with that. I don't like sharing.
"Meredith?" He was waving his hand in front of my face. I felt bad about blowing him off. I suggested 13 going into 30 and he just laughed at it. He placed the DVD into the player, plopping at the end of the couch. This time I made sure I was at the end so what happened the other time won't happen again.
William was laughing at the part where Jenny didn't know where she was at and she was with her 'boyfriend' but she was trying to avoid him.
Has he ever seen this?
I heard my front door open and Katie and my dad walked in.
"It's cold out there," I heard my dad mumble.
Katie chuckled. "I know, Kurt," Katie walked past me, saying hi to me and William.
"Hey, Mer. Hey, Zac," Katie called from the kitchen. Maybe she just didn't pay attention to who it was.
"It's not Zac, Katie," I called. She came out of the kitchen, taking her coat off and placing it on the chair. She raised her eyebrows, looking at me all confused.
"Who might you be?" She asked.
"William, nice to meet you, ma'am," William stood up and offered a hand to my step mom. She laughed slightly, taking his offer. My dad soon came out of the kitchen and placed his hands on Katie's shoulders.
"Hello, son," my dad says, kissing Katie's cheek.
"Hello, Mr. Dennell," William smiled at both of them, sitting down a little closer next to me.
"How long are you staying here, William?" Katie asked.
William looked over at me. I shrugged. "Whenever you guys kick me out, I guess," he chuckled.
Katie's face brightened up. She looked to my dad for reassurance. He nodded. Katie sat in the nearby chair as my dad went go the kitchen to make dinner.
"Would you like to stay for dinner?" She asked.
"Katie, that isn't nec-" I started, but William interrupted.
"Of course, thank you. Only if you guys want me here," he looked over again to me, and my eyes were dark.
I was in a bitchy mood and tbh I didn't really want to hang out with William today. He asked me while I was in a rush not to be late to lunch detention and I just said yes to get him out of my way. It's it like I didn't like William but I needed alone time.
Maybe this won't be so bad? My mind was racing.
"Great! I am going to go help Kurt with dinner. I will let you know when it's ready,"
I felt like Katie was faking the whole nice card. I'm the only person who has seen her bad sad but my dad is completely oblivious to it. Katie wasn't a bad person and I'm glad my dad found someone after my mom passed but in my opinion he moved on too fast.
He's just so in love with her. He doesn't see how mean she can be. William lightly punched my shoulder, catching my attention. My eyes widened.
"Mer, stop being down. It'll be okay. You can talk to Marie tomorrow, alright? I'll even be there with you to stop the cat fight from happening," he chuckled. I don't think he knows how serious I am about this.
He stopped laughing and just gripped my shoulder. "I know how much Zac means to you, and by all means, go beat her ass but I want to be there so you don't get suspended. Is that okay?" He murmured so that way dad and Katie couldn't hear.
I nodded, and he relaxed some. Katie came out ten minutes later and told us to get to the table. They made chicken teriyaki with rice and it was my favorite since my dad cooked it.
I grabbed a plateful, not caring if people judge me. I stirred my chicken and rice together and then started eating. Everybody did the same, not paying any attention towards me. Good.
"So, did you watch the game on Sunday?" My dad asked William.
"No, sir. I was out all day, but I heard it was a really close game!"
My dad smiled. "It was but my team won," he felt so proud to say that,"
William playfully rolled his eyes. "You Steelers fans. You guys play dirty ball,"
"No we don't! We won that game fair and square," my dad was smirking, taking a bite of his food.
"So how did you guys meet?" William asked them. Katie looked over at my dad, surprised at that question. They haven't been asked that in years.
I'm pissed. I didn't want to hear that story again. I started scarfing down my food, trying to hurry it up so I didn't have to hear it but I was too late.
"Well, we met shortly after Meredith's mom passed away," my dad started, looking over at me. I just pursed my lips. "We met at my old job. She was a secretary and I was the boss and you know how that all goes..." My dad chuckled, Katie's cheeks were red. "One thing led to another and we just couldn't stay away, so I asked her to be mine,"
Thank god he shortened that story. I wasn't trying to hear about their sexy times. My dad was looking over at me to make sure I was okay. At first I didn't really know what was going on when I was 5, all I knew was that I was going to have a new mommy. I didn't know any better. Once I got older my dad told me how my mom passed in detail and about him and Katie.
I cried for weeks but I got over it. My mom is in a better place.
Everybody was done with their food and my parents took all of our plates, insisting they will wash them for us. William looked at his watch, telling me he had to go.
I walked him to the door as he was getting his coat on. I crossed my arms, not welcoming in the freezing cold as he held the door open.
"I had fun," he said, quietly. "We should do this again,"
"Yeah, definitely,"
William leaned down and pecked me on the lips. It was a soft and sweet kiss but certainly one I wasn't expecting. I stood there, stunned. He leaned back, smiling slightly.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow?"
I just nodded as I closed the front door.
