Day 58- Get stuck in your house..
It was the day after my two hour party, and I was forced to clean the entire house.
I just finished my room and went on to vacuuming and dusting my bathroom, when I realized I still hadn't come up with the rest of my Popular Plan yet. Yes, I was popular now, but was I at the top of my game? No.
I quickly dusted and vacuumed my bathroom, anxious to start phase 2. As soon as I ended, I ran back into my room to get out a piece of paper and a pen. I was ready.
First, I added on the obvious part of my list. Day 58- Get stuck in your house....
Obviously, I was referring to me having to clean my entire home.
Next, it dawned on me that I was 16, and I still didn't have a permit. Maybe if I quickly cleaned everything, I could go and get one tomorrow. Day 59- Get a permit!!
I didn't know what to do after that, so I just left off there. I only added on one more thing to my list. It just goes to show you how productive I am. If you can't tell, I'm a big procrastinator, and I hear it all the time from my mom.
After I wiped down my last set of mirrors and cleaned my toilet, I had to go into the hallway.
As I walked into the hallway, I bumped into my mom, who was carrying a basket of laundry.
"You seem hard at work," she said, standing up a bit straighter. "But that's not the point. I got this text, from one of the girls at your party last night. Sara, or something her name was? Anyways, she said that it was 'totally lame' and if you didn't step it up, you'd be cut off from the group. So, I want to apologize for maybe ruining your reputation."
I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. I shrugged and just continued on down the hallway to plug in the vacuum, but turned back around to my mom. She was glancing at the ground, suspiciously.
"I'll let you host another party, I guess. Soon, but not this week, or the next. I don't want my baby girl to be looked at as lame," my mom walked over to me and pinched my cheeks. "You're my baby and I love you."
She walked away, and that was that. No more conversation afterwords.
I felt like the rest of the day dragged on, extremely slow. I managed to finish most of our house, and by the time I decided enough was enough, it was 8:30 at night.
I went over to check my phone, since I obviously hadn't all day. I had a ton of notifications from a bunch of different people... Why? I didn't think I did anything wrong recently.
"U said that! You're so rude!"
"Wow, McKenna, I thought you are better than that."
"Lameeeeeee"
"Go back to your old school, Fatso."
One stood out to me right away. I couldn't stop reading it, mainly because I was shocked and surprised. It was from Tayah.
"I'm coming over to your house. We need to talk."
I sent her two thumbs-up emojis and smiled.
I was actually glad she wanted to talk, but what did I do to deserve all these text messages? Was Sara actually... Mad? Mad at me for, I don't know, hosting a bad party? It wasn't my fault my parents came home early.
I walked back into my room and sat on my bed, staring at my ceiling for what felt like an extremely long time, anxious for Tayah. I hadn't talked to her in a long time.
The doorbell finally rang, as I ran to get it. Tayah stood there in a windbreaker and jeans, her hair soaking wet, as if she just took a shower. We didn't speak. I just embraced her in a hug and started crying.
"They are so manipulative and perfect, and popular, that I wanted to be like them," I cried into her shoulder. Tayah pulled away from me and smiled. It was good to see her smile, but it was a smile that had pity in it. It was as if... She felt bad.
"Let's go to your room and talk, okay? I think it'll be better if we sat there." She took off her shoes and we walked into my bedroom. I closed my door to block off any sound. Then, Tayah went into a ramble.
"So, on the Twitter account, thetenth, someone sent in an anonymous story, type thing, that explained you were only friends with Sara and Co. to be popular? And... I tried to deny it. I said it was because you were mad at me. And I knew it wasn't true. You want to be popular. You want to be different from your old school."
I nodded. That was true.
"So then, another person, probably Sara, sent in a picture and, I don't know. It was you. And it was you texting someone, I don't know. It looked photoshopped? It's hard to explain. But trust me, everyone saw that you 'said' that Sara was, and I quote 'you,' 'Sara is an annoying little bitch. Why am I friends with her anyways?'"
That was too far. That wasn't true. I never sent a message to anyone saying that. Heck, to bee honest, I barely even knew Sara!
She had crossed the line, and now everyone hated me. Just because I ruined their little group's reputation, didn't mean I had to get blackmailed.
"You are literally the most hated person on the face of this Earth right now," Tayah laughed. "I don't mean to be rude, but they all want you to leave the school for being such a disgrace."
Honestly, I thought the whole thing was ridiculous. It was just one stupid little party that won't have any impact on anyone on the near future. Maybe the "popular" people at this school weren't as great as I thought they were. I had to get back to my old friends and I needed to do it soon. And maybe, I could also get my permit.
"This is stupid," was all I told Tayah, before giving her a forgiving hug.
