Allison stood over her bed, 15 minutes were left until the Purge started.
She looked at the outfit that she had picked out for the long night ahead, a black leather jacket with a black tank top underneath it, green army skinny jeans and black combat boots. Her black wavy hair fell over her shoulders perfectly. Allison walked over and picked up her quiver, placing enough arrows inside of it in case they ran into danger.
She placed the quiver over her shoulder, grabbing her black shooting glove she placed it on. It covered her thumb, index, and middle finger the rest of the leather covered the front and the palm of her hand from her wrist to her knuckles. Footsteps approached Allison's room, "It's time to go." Leo said through the other side of the door.
Quickly looking at the picture of her and her brother Allison opened the door, "I'm ready, let's do this." She said while closing the door. "Let's go get him." The two walked to the black car outside of the apartment. Once they reached the car Leo grabbed the duffle bag that contained guns inside of it and put it in the trunk of the car.
He walked back to the front of the car, closing the door he turned on the engine. Allison sat next to him looking out the window, as Leo drove off away from the apartment and onto the streets of Los Angeles. As they drove pass stores Allison saw that most of the small shops were closed up with thick metal, others simply had wood nailed onto them.
Those who could afford paying for insurance were safe from the purge and those who couldn't would have to pray for a miracle so that their lives could be spared. Allison had no doubt that the purge eliminated the poor, it was unfair and inhumane. In a couple of years the next election would take place and she hoped deep in her heart that there would be someone who could put an end to this night, someone who thought the same way that she did.
As Leo drove through the city a familiar announcement blared through the radio and through Los Angeles.
"This is not a test. This is your Emergency Broadcast System announcing the commencement of The Annual Purge sanctioned by the US Government. Weapons of Class 4 and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity...Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12
continuous hours. Police, fire and emergency medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. when the Purge concludes. Blessed be our New Founding Fathers, and America, a nation reborn. May God be with you all."
The announcement ended and the sirens blared through the empty city, turning Allison's stomach and giving her a queasy feeling. She closed her eyes and let out a small sigh trying to relax. But no one could really relax when you're out on the streets looking for the man who killed your brother and put you in a coma for 6 months. Allison remembered everything that happened that tragic day, it lingered in her memory, haunting her each and everyday of her life.
**
It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, birds were chirping, it seemed like the perfect day. Allison waved to her friends as she walked out of her highschool, she went her way going to pick up her little brother. Luckily for her his school was only two blocks away from her school but three blocks away from their house. Once Allison arrived at the school grounds her brother jumped into her arms.
"Hey Nick how was school?" She asked ruffling his hair and planting a kiss on his small cheek. Allison waved goodbye at the teacher before walking out with her brother.
"It was fun! We made a painting and we learned the alphabet!" Nicholas replied excitedly, Allison held her brother's hand, looking both ways and making sure no car was coming so they could cross safely.
"That's great little bro. You better teach me what you learned when we get home." Allison smiled. As the two crossed the street seeing as no car was coming.
The next moments would soon change her life forever. A black car made a sharp turn, it headed towards Nicholas and Allison, time seemed to slow down. Allison wrapped her arms around her brother, she was about to run but the car slammed into her.
Allison and her brother flew through the air, they landed on the trunk of the car before rolling off and landing on the cold cement. Pain burst through Allison's body, especially through her legs, they were the first to come in contact with the car. Blood poured out of her wounds, huge scrape marks on her arms and legs now had skin peeling off, a gash was on her forehead but that wasn't the last of her injuries.
Her wounds burned like fire as she layed on the cement. She turned and saw her brother faced down on the ground, his breathing seemed to vanish. "Nicholas." She said with her last breath before the darkness consumed her.

Leo also remembered that horrible day, it was a nightmare that had no end. They were the perfect family, his wife, his son and his beautiful daughter but that all changed because of one man. Leo gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white as he remembered.
**
"What's taking the kids so long I'm getting worried." Lorraine, his wife asked as she paced back and forth in the kitchen.
"They probably went to the park for a while, maybe they forgot to call, I'm sure they're fine." Leo explained trying to reassure his wife but he too was also worried.
"What if-" Lorraine was soon cut off as the phone started ringing. Her heart jumped a little hoping that it was her daughter calling to say that everything was fine.
"See it's probably them." Leo said picking up the phone and putting it up to his ear.
"Hello?" He said into the phone.
"Hello. Are you the father of Allison and Nicholas Barnes?" A voice asked.
"Yes t-that's me, w-who is s-speaking?" Leo asked confused, stuttering a bit. Now he was scared.
"I am an LAPD officer. I'm sorry to inform you sir but your daughter and son were involved in an accident by a drunk driver. We have the suspect in our custody and your children are being transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. I suggest you meet us there."
"Yes r-right away." Leo said hanging up the phone quickly.
"What happened?" Lorraine asked frantically.
"Allison and Nicholas were hit by a car, they're being transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center."
"No! My babies no! We have to go." Lorraine said as tears poured out of her eyes.
**
The couple finally made it to the hospital, Leo drove through several red stop signals but he didn't care his children were more important at that moment.
"Family of Allison and Nicholas Barnes?" A doctor asked as he came into the waiting room. The two quickly stood up, "That's us we're their parents." Lorraine said.
"How are our children?" Leo asked.
"I'm sorry Mr and Mrs. Barnes only one of them made it out alive. The other was pronounced dead at the scene." The doctor said not wanting to give the parents the heartbreaking news.
"Please doctor just tell us who survived and who didn't." Lorraine said.
"Nicholas passed away. Your daughter Allison is currently in a coma, I'm sorry to inform both of you but your daughter only has a ten percent chance of waking up from that coma." The doctor said.
Lorraine burst into tears, Leo held her as tears also escaped his eyes. The doctor left sadly leaving the two parents to deal with their pain. Their whole world seemed to collapse that moment, their son died and their daughter had a possibility of also passing away. They were living hell on earth.
