It bothered me that Ace wouldn’t tell me, but at the same time if he didn’t say anything then it couldn’t have been that important right? I almost got up to go and run after him but I came behind the building to relax. Last night was, well it was something. I feel like the world just keeps dropping crap on my shoulders to hold. Just then my phone rang.
“Hey where are you?” It was Dotty.
“Behind the mathematics building.”
“I’m coming.”
“Ehr, well” But she hung up before I could beg her to let me have some alone time. She and Henderson showed up within a couple of minutes, and I was actually happy for that. Hopefully he would take my apology for running off last night. Technically teleporting off, but let’s not get technical. Both of them sat on either side of me.
“How you holding up?” Dotty asked.
“As best as I can, I guess. I mean I guess its better I know the truth. I would have gone running to her the second I stepped back in New York City. And to be honest I would have told her everything.” I turned to Henderson and said, “Sorry I left you last night, I know you were just trying to be nice.”
“I would have probably done the same.”
I loved that about Henderson. He was so easy going and calm. If I was into being in a relationship, then I totally would have gone for him. But I’d fallen for so many guys before and none of them ever liked me, so after a while I just kind of stopped falling for people, even the ones that I could really like. I don’t really get feelings for guys to save myself from the hurt, and something about Henderson told me that he was only being friendly with me. He probably acted like that with a lot of girls, and not on purpose of course. He was just a really nice guy. Of course I couldn’t tell this to Dotty, because she was so pro Henderson.
“So, it’s a Friday night. What do people around here usually do?” I needed anything that could take my mind off of this week’s events.
“Hmm, well there’s actually a dance tonight, there’s a movie playing in the theatre, and oh my gosh, I just had the best idea ever! What time is it?” Dotty’s mouth broke out into the biggest smile I have ever seen.
“Um, it’s only like 12:30. Why?”
“Henderson, come here!” She walked over a couple feet away to where I couldn’t hear them. She whispered in his ear and told him her plan. I assumed that he liked the idea too because he looked over at my sad self and then smiled back at Dotty. They walked back together towards me. “Okay, so I really hope you like giving people makeovers.”
“Actually, I do. Why?”
“While Henderson takes care of the rest of my plan, we are going to give Derek a makeover so he’s ready for tonight.” She was typing away on her phone; I guessed she was texting Derek so we could meet up.
She grabbed my hand and pulled me up. It was actually quite funny, and I began to giggle. “Where are we going?”
“To meet up with our project. Bye Henderson! Remember this has to be perfect for her!” He gave her thumbs up and as she dragged me across the field, I turned around and waved goodbye.
We meet Derek at the coffee shop they had on campus, I swear this place is a town of its own. He was sitting by himself looking down at his phone. He looked up when we sat down by him. “Hey Reagan.”
“Hi.” I gave him the warmest smile I could pull off.
“So what’s going on?” He looked just as confused as I did.
“Check your phone!” Dotty told him. She was still extremely smiley.
He looked down at his phone and read a message that I couldn’t peak at because he had one of those privacy screens. “I don’t know, Dotty. I mean a makeover?”
“Please. Do it for Reagan, you need to be ready for tonight.”
He looked over to me to see if I had any clue as to what they were talking about. I just shrugged. “I guess it couldn’t be too bad.” We walked over to me and Dotty’s dorm to begin the makeover.
“So what are we doing first?” I asked.
“Hair.”
“Yes! I actually know how to style and cut hair. My grandma taught me, she owns a salon.”
“Good because I don’t know how to. I do however have clippers, scissors, and other hair styling products.”
“Can I please ask why you have those if you don’t style hair?”
“It was a prize in one of the raffles they had here during the summer. I knew I would need it someday.” I walked over to shut the door but before I could Dotty said, “Don’t!”
“Why?” I liked privacy.
“Guys are only aloud in the dorms if the door is open. And people are going to know that we aren’t using clippers, so we can’t just silently hide him here.”
“Gotcha. So do I have artistic freedom?”
“He’s all yours.” Dotty replied.
“I was talking to Derek, stupid. It is his hair.” I was actually laughing.
“I guess. I better leave this room handsome.”
“So, Dotty, I’m thinking a Zayn Malik cut. Shorter on the sides.”
“Hm, I like it.”
I turned on the clippers and began to shave off the sides. “Your hair is so long!”
“Yeah, it’s always been that way.”
I could tell he was kind of freaked out by the noise the clippers were making. “Calm down. I would never hurt you. Dotty hand me the scissors.” I cut the top part of his hair. It was still fairly long but definitely not shoulders length. It was about three inches long if I pulled all up towards the ceiling. I made his hair really textured so that it had that messy cute look. “To the bathroom!”
“The bathroom?” He was really confused.
“We’re going to wash your hair.” It was soft on its own, but I needed to see what it would look like after he got out of the shower, just in case I needed to make any changes. He took off his shirt so it wouldn’t get wet and put his head in the shower. To mine and Dotty’s surprised he sported a much toned six pack. Like little school girls we giggled and pretended to fan ourselves. When he was finished we handed him a towel to dry off his hair and then he sat back down in the chair where we had cut his hair. “It looks perfect.” I ruffled his hair on the top and for a second I looked right into his eyes. When he wore his hair long I could barely see his eyes. Now I noticed that they were a pale blue with small flecks of gold. He was so handsome it made my heart flutter.
“Wow, we are good.” Dotty interrupted. And the moment was gone.
“Can I see?” He had a really rugged voice, without it being too low. I pulled him into my room towards the mirror so that he could see the outcome. “Wow.”
“Oh, you don’t like it?” My voice was disappointed.
“No, I love it. I haven’t seen my eyes in years.” He smiled at me and then looked back at the mirror and realized he didn’t have a shirt on. Being the loser that I am I just blushed. I looked exactly like a tomato. Dotty passed him his shirt and he put it back on. “So, now what?”
“I guess clothes. But I like your clothes already. It looks so laid back with your new hair.” Dotty answered. “Let me call Henderson and see how he’s doing.” She went out in the hallway and then came back shortly. “Derek he’s waiting for you in his dorm. Reagan and I have to get ready.”
“Bye!” I called out before he disappeared into the hallway. “So, this dance?”
“Yeah, it’s supposed to be like a welcome back to the institute party. They’re a lot of fun with the right people. Oh! You’ll get to meet my boyfriend tonight.”
“Boyfriend?” It never even occurred to me that she might be dating someone.
“Yeah, we’ve been dating for two years. His name’s Josh.”
“What’s his power?”
“He doesn’t have one. And even then he’s like one of the top agents here. I’m too jealous.”
“Ohhh. Dotty has a boyfriend, Dotty has a boyfriend.” I sang.
“Yes I do, yes I do.” She sang back and laughed.
“So what do we wear to this welcome back dance?”
“You can pass with dressy casual.”
I ran to my room and grabbed a long sleeved white lace shirt, a black body con skirt, sheer black tights, and a white shirt to go under the lace one. I put it on and ran back out to show Dotty. “How do I look?”
“I love it! They’re going to love you!”
“Who?”
“You’ll see. Anyways, I’m definitely doing your makeup and hair. Do you have shoes?”
“No that’s the only thing I couldn’t find.”
“I have the perfect studded heels. And they’re not even that tall just an inch, since your already blessed with long legs.” She began to take my hair. “I think really loose waves would look so cute for tonight. I know just how to do that.” She took the curling iron and did each little peace for two seconds. It made my hair wavy but not curly. It wasn’t long until she moved on to doing my makeup. She did the prettiest smokey eye I had ever seen. It made my green eyes pop. She let me do the eyeliner and mascara because it’s always easier doing your own.
“You are too good, my friend.”
“Thank you, thank you. So, first on the schedule for tonight we are going to watch a movie. Everyone from our squad is waiting in front of the theatre so we better go. The movie starts in five minutes!”
“How far is the theatre?”
“It’s on campus but it’s all the way by the entrance.”
“No problem, I can teleport us.”
“Are you sure you’re up for it?” She said it as if teleportation is what brought the horrors of last night.
“Yeah, don’t worry.” I closed my eyes and thought, “Dotty, me, theatre. Dotty, me, theatre.” And within seconds we were there. Just how Dotty said everyone was waiting for us. Meagan, Olivia, and Bari were also dressed up but the guys were dressed up in white plain t-shirts.
Bari walked up toward me and gave me a hug and said, “Hey, I’m proud of you, you did great yesterday.”
“Thank you. You look so pretty.” She was wearing a pale blue dress with a gold belt.
“You do too! Come on lets go in.”
We went in the theatre and bought tickets to watch Breaking Dawn. The girls and I drooled over Jacob and Edward, and the guys only liked some of the parts. Still we were having fun. Plus I was getting closer to, Meagan, Olivia, and Bari. Half way through the movie all the guys got up. “Hey? Where are you guys going?”
“It’s all a part of the plan.” Dotty whispered.
