I sat still awake watching the birds fly by, it was nearing the afternoon and Gaara still hadn't woken up. I looked down at him. He looked like he hadn't slept in years and I knew the pain. For years after my parents died I couldn't sleep, I had finally been able to sleep once I was in the sand, although I could sleep once every four months because my tailed beast would worry for my health and if I died then so did she. I opened the window to let air in. A bird flew in and perched on my shoulder and I brought my had up to it and it hopped on singing happily. I gave it a little smile and let it fly off. I brought my hand back down to Gaara's shoulder. I rested my hand there and leaned my head against the wall. I looked down and saw kids running and laughing. I sighed and closed my eyes listening to the wind as it blew into the room.
I felt Gaara shuffle in his sleep and his head fell off my lap. I slide off the bed careful not to let it move too much. I walked over to the kitchen and started to make some eggs. "Something smells good" I heard a tired Gaara say. "I'm sorry if I woke you" I said looking over at him. I split the eggs up onto two plates and brought them over to the table. I placed one in front of Gaara and sat down, placing the second in front of myself. I started eating my eggs in silence, the only sound was the scraping of forks on the plates. "How did you do it?" He asked. I looked up at him confused. "How did you get me to fall asleep?" He asked more detailed. "Well like I said last night I kept my mind relaxed" I said picking up some more eggs with my fork. "Your lying" He said. I just looked at him showing nothing, even though I was surprised. "What makes you think that?" I asked putting food into my mouth. "Well, you seem to be trying to avoid telling me something and now your trying to avoid talking. So tell me the truth" he said getting more serious. I swallowed my food and sighed. I picked up our plates and placed then in the sink. I then motioned for him to follow me.
We sat down on the couch. "Okay so it was your fault last time, but if I wasn't there then you probably would have never fallen asleep in the first place" I said. "Explain" I said giving me a questioning look. "Well last time you didn't really seem trusting, which would have allowed the Shukaku to take over, where as this time you seemed to have complete faith in me and if anything were to happen you'd trust me" I explained. "And now about how I can't fall asleep unless your there. How does that work? Is it a jutsu?" He asked. I shook my head. "No its nothing special like that. All it was, was the fact that you had company. Company that you trusted with your life" I explained leaning back and looking at the ceiling. "Well, I guess you figured that out quite easily" He said with a small laugh. I looked over at him as he did this. A small smile was on his face, but it quickly disappeared. "Gaara? Why is it that you never smile?" I asked. "Well, I guess that its just because I've rarely ever found a reason to smile. The only people who have ever made me smile are Naruto and yourself" he said. "Well I'm glad I'm able to make you smile." He looked over at me. "Your smile is so nice and since you don't do it often it means that only the most important people to you ever get to see it and I'm glad I do because you are always so nice and friendly even though people always thought of you as a burden, you kept fighting" I said smiling over at him.
"How did you deal with you tailed beast? Well, before you were able to tame it" he asked. "Well I spent many years being consumed my darkness of the beast, so I spent most of my time underground and away from people so that I could learn to hold back the beast if it were ever to try to take me. I never slept unless the beast promised that it wouldn't take over me. It did this about once every four months, with concern of my health because if I were to die then so would she. I was then soon able to go into towns and collect the food and other things I needed with little worry. I eventually figured out that I would need to control my beast to be able to live a life like everyone else. I soon figured out that that was impossible and it would be like how I had always been treated. Being locked away and feared. I found a way to visit my beast. I then began to visit her every day, until we became good friends. I removed the seal and allowed to to roam the world of the tailed beasts and now she will come and protect me whenever I need her" I explained. He nodded at this and looked determined. "Oh no. You can't go become friends with the Sukaku yet. You still need to be able master that chakra flow we talked about" I said seriously, but he ended up laughing at me. "Ya I know. I was just thinking that that must have taken a lot of will power" he said smiling and standing. He walked out onto the balcony and waved before climbing onto the roof and walking over to his own room.
