Chapter 24
“How are you?” I asked, running a hand through my hair, tugging tightly on the ends as the knots came together to deny my fingers freedom
“I’m fine” laughed Abbey over the phone “I’m in bed, Doctor Paul said that it was best if I did as little as possible so I’m on bed rest”
“That’s the only reason right, nothing’s wrong with you or the baby?”
Abbey had texted me early this morning to check up on me, but she didn’t say anything about her condition, I had freaked out and called her immediately
I sighed in relief “Good, remember to call me if you get any news, contractions, kicking, water breaking-“
“Quinn” she laughed “Settle down, you’ll be the first person I call if my water breaks, I’ll text you if he kicks furiously, but I am perfectly fine”
I nodded “Okay, Okay, I’m sorry, I freaked out, you mean to much to me that’s all”
“I understand baby cakes”
“I can get on the next plane to Sydney as soon as you text me, you just have to hold off and wait for me, 2 hours, that’s all it’ll take”
She laughed “I know Quinn, you’ve told me already, I’ll see you when you get back, I love you”
“Love you too”
She made a kiss into the phone and hung up
I sighed and sat on the edge of Reece’s bed, where he still lay, half asleep and drowsy as hell
“Who?” he muttered, tossing his sheets to one side again
“Abbey” I whispered
“Everything alright?”
“Yeah, everything’s fine, she’s on bed rest”
“When’s she due?”
“Yesterday, she’s late”
He sat up and wrapped his arms around my shoulders
“Come here” he whispered pulling me back into bed with him
His ring was cold against the skin of my hip, yet it made me smile
He kissed my lips and turned me onto my back, laying over me
I groaned as he ran up my side, his ring skimming across my skin
He chuckled as he captured my lips again “Feel good?”
I nodded making him laugh again and kiss me harder
We rolled over so that I was laying flat on top of him, my stomach pressed against the toned muscles of his bare chest
I ran my hand up his stomach, making him shiver
“I didn’t know you wearing a ring could turn me on” he whispered, attempting to create a hickey at the base of my neck
I laughed and groaned at the same time as he nibbled on my neck just that little bit harder
The door clicked open
“Reece, you in- Ah!” Sam screamed covering his eyes “Sorry, I should have knocked, I’m not use to you having a girl in your room”
He sighed, kissing me sweetly again before sitting us up and fixing my shirt over my underwear
“All good mate” smiled Reece
Sam peaked through an opening in his fingers and removed his hand when he saw that we were fully clothed
“What’s up?” I asked, pretending nothing had happened
“Breakfast” he answered, looking from me to Reece “Your mum let me in and told me to feed you while she and the girls are out”
“Thanks man, we’ll get dressed and be right down” nodded Reece
Sam’s eyes travelled quickly to my bare legs and then he backed out of the room
I grabbed a pair of Reece’s jeans and slipped them on casually
“Are you wearing my clothes?” he muttered from the corner of the room near his wardrobe as I grabbed a belt out of my bag and slipped it through the loops of the jeans
“Yes, got a problem with that?” I clicked the belt together and turned, my hand on my hips to look pointedly at him
He smirked “Not at all, you look hot in my clothes”
I blushed
He threw on a black singlet and light blue jean shorts
I squinted at him as he bit his lip to stop the smile off his face
“What are you smiling at?” I wondered
“Just thinking” he said, letting out his smile
“About?”
He winked “That no matter how good you look in my clothes, you’ll always look better without any on”

“Nice ring” said Sam sitting down next to me, a beer in his hand
“Thanks” I smiled, looking down at the plain silver accessory on my finger
“Reece has the same one, coincidence?” he raised his eyebrow
I blushed “No, not really, he brought them for Christmas, matching”
Sam nodded “Reecey boy seems to have really taken a liking to you, he’s never brought a girl jewelry before”
“Let me guess, they’ve always brought it for him” I joked
Sam laughed and shook his head “Something like that”
I looked over at Reece who was standing at the barbeque without lunch, swearing as some of the oil sizzled up and hit his wrist
“He really does like you” he whispered, nudging me with his elbow “I’ve never seen him so interested in bringing a girl home to meet all of us before”
I looked back at him with interest
“I called him the day you left him in the apartment to go to work; you’d had a fight or something” he continued, messing up his hair like Reece did, they were so similar I had never noticed until now “He told me what happened, all of it, he was devastated, he was going on and on about what you had said, how you had hurt him, how stupid the whole thing was and that you were drunk when you said it so it shouldn’t have mattered” he paused “But it did, it mattered to him, drunken words or not he said that you mattered to much to him for him to let it go, he said that he loved you, he knew even then that, that’s what it was, why he couldn’t get on the plane after plane that Gem kept holding up for him in time to get his things, he wanted to stay with you, he was convinced he was going to make you love him back, he just had to”
I was silent for a moment, he had known he loved me well before he had said it on the plane; he had been able to put me in his life before I even let him into mine
“Once he has his mind set on something it’s hard to get it off isn’t it” I muttered
“Yeah, like learning the guitar, like being the brother of the family, like making him love you, He’s grown up he has, my little Reece” Sam laughed
“He wasn’t always like this?”
“Hello no, We had to convince him to get out on stage for X Factor, he was a shy nervous little kid, he still is slightly, he doesn’t show it much, he prefers to stay brave like he’s been since the start of the live shows”
“Are you saying Reece has a brave front?”
“Exactly”
I sighed “I guess I know Reece better than I think”
“You do, you don’t know it but you and Reece are very alike, I see a lot of him in you”
“Like what?”
“You’re both stubborn, self assured, reliable, friendly” he paused, poker face on “You’re perfect for each other”
I smiled and looked back at the brunette boy with bangles to his elbows and hair falling in his eyes
He looked up at us and the rest of his mates on the grass near the pool
“Food!”
All the boys ran to grab as much as they could
Their hunger had been apparent and they weren’t letting up on Reece until their mouths were stuffed with whatever they could fit in them, which to me looked like a lot
Reece stepped back, tongs raised in his up raised hands as the crowd of boys started grabbing steaks, sausages, chicken and onions to pile onto their plates and rolls
The tongs were snatched out of Reece’s hand as Sam and I made out way over to him looking to see what was left on the barbeque
“Here” smiled Reece handing us both a plate piled with food - more on Sam’s plate then there was on mine – “I snuck it off the Barbie before I called food, I knew they’d come running when I did”
“Thanks mate” smiled Sam, slapping him on the shoulder and walking off, biting into his shoulder
“Thanks babe” I smiled, kissing his lips
There was a kissing sound from behind us
“Knock it off you idiots” laughed Reece, reaching to whack one of his friends in the head as they continued to make the sound
“Go eat your food” I laughed, pulling Reece’s lips down to meet mine
They laughed and ran off, the sound of the grass crunching under their feet meeting my ears as my eyes were closed and lips locked to Reece’s
“Do you have to eat right now; I have a place behind the shed we can sit for a while” he whispered
“Do you actually mean ‘sit’?” I laughed
“No” he mumbled kissing me “We can finish what we started this morning before Sam walked in”
“I’m staying in your bed rock star, we can finish it late”
He whined and pouted his lip “But, But, But”
“No, No and” I pecked his lip “No”
“REJECTED”
We turned to see Sam and some of the other boys, faces stuffed and laughing
“Leave it alone” growled Reece as we walked towards them, food in hand
“Aww, did we upset Reecey?” pouted Sam
Reece narrowed his eyes at him
I put my plate down and kissed Reece quick and hard on the lips before turning back to the boys “He’s not rejected, let’s just eat”
The rest of the night they made jokes
Sam didn’t join in
Reece didn’t laugh
And I had a really strong feeling something about Rejection and Girls had been mentioned before in their friendship
