"I'm Klaus, I recommend not trying to run from me again."
His voice was dark and full of dominance. I felt a chill run down my spine as I looked up at him.
He was tall. Like scary, I could kick your ass at any given moment tall. I could easily make out the strong muscles hidden beneath his thermal top. His broad shoulders gave him an even more fear inducing look.
"Wh-what did you do to my Mother?" I stammered.
The aroma from her blood seemed to waft down the stairs. I glanced at the ceiling above me, knowing that just beyond those floorboards was the thing I desired most in the world. Just the momentary thought of her blood made my fangs rip from my gums.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Now really love you should be thanking me. I've just freed you from imprisonment. Don't I at least get a thank you?"
My insides twisted as he spoke. I could feel the fear rising up in me.
"What do you want from me?!"
My voice barely a whisper, cracked as I glanced at my Father's lifeless body. The blood from the hole in his chest slowly made its way across the cement floor of my cell.
He noticed where I stared.
"Thirsty are we? Well that's to be expected I suppose. With only being fed once every few weeks I'm surprised you've lasted this long amongst so much blood."
He said the last word in a harsh, condescending tone. As if he dared me to try and get it. Taking a quick step toward me, he reached out and grabbed the chain encircling my neck. With a light tug the metal that I'd spent 18 years trying to break, split in half as if it was no more than a piece of paper.
"No...Don't.." I whispered, barely audible.
What was he doing? I need these chains. No, no, no I can't be without the chains. I'll hurt people. I'll kill people. I have to stop him. I can't let him take the others off. I can't let him set me free.
He reached for the chain on my wrist. With so many thoughts roaring through my head I barely noticed that my fangs had emerged. His hand came closer to me and without really thinking I lunged at him. I think I was going to try and bite him or something along those lines but before I noticed what was happening I was pinned up against the wall. His large hand wrapped around my neck, choking me.
His eyes shone a bright yellow, fangs of his own emerged and black veins rose from under his eyes.
"Bad move love."
He bit me.
Hard.
I let out a muffled scream as he took my blood. Shots of agony rippled through my body. I've never felt more pain in my life. I tried to push him away, tried to remove this devil from my neck. But he was so strong. My efforts for release went unnoticed by him either because I truly was a weakling or because he was too fixated on draining me of all the blood I contained.
Then it all suddenly ended.
I let out a whimper and attempted to get my sight focused. I was slouched against my cell door. I managed to get some idea of what was going on when I noticed another man was here. He was equally as tall as the man named Klaus. He had dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. He was dressed in a suit, as if he was some sort of business man.
"Elijah," Klaus hissed at the man, "what in God's name do you think you're doing?" He was clearly pissed that this new man had stopped him from draining me dry.
"Do you really think I would just stand idly by and let you kill this girl? We came here to help her, and she in return will help us. That was the bargain Niklaus."
He spoke calmly and with authority. He stared at Klaus for a moment, silently daring him to argue. When he did not, he turned to me. Unlike Klaus, this man had kindness and compassion in his eyes. He crouched in front of me and gently held my chin. Turning my head so he could take a better look at my wounds. When he saw the severity of them his eyes darkened.
"Help me.."
A single tear fell from my eye as I quietly whispered to him. He watched the tear slide down my cheek then drop to my shirt. But he said nothing.
"Niklaus, this is unacceptable."
He stood and placed himself between me and my attacker.
"If you think that I'm going to just let you take her from me.." Klaus began with a murderous tone, but before he could finish Elijah cut him off.
"Brother, I have no intention of taking your prize, but I will not stand for the mistreatment of someone so defenseless."
He glared at his brother before turning his attention back to me.
"I apologize for my brother's behavior. He lacks patience and makes up for it with viciousness." he sweetly spoke as he gently helped me to my feet.
As I rose, nausea along with searing pain shot through my core. I doubled over with a cry of agony and found myself once again on the cold hard ground.
When I looked up both brothers stared at me. One with curiosity and one with concern. Realization soon replaced Elijah's concern.
"Niklaus the girl needs your blood."
He did not answer for a moment, and I thought perhaps he was simply ignoring his brother's words. Then he spoke and I became even more fearful than I was before.
"Now why would I save her after I just tried to kill her, hm?"
The amusement in his voice was vile. He really had been trying to kill me.
"You know why. We need her. Alive. Heal her."
"No."
And then my world went swimming into darkness.
