Nate rubbed her brown eyes. It was only Tuesday, but it felt like it should be Friday. She walked out from her room to the dining room table, where she sat down. "Milk?" Her mom asked. "Yeah." Nate said, stretching her arms. She began eating her cereal, and her older sister, Abby, came downstairs. She fixed a bagel and sat down beside Nate, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Morning, nerd." Abby said. "Morning, loser." Nate responded. "I always love your affectionate pet names." Their mother joked. Nate finished her breakfast and got ready for school. "Love you, see you this afternoon." Their mother said to the girls and their brother, Tyler, as they left for their school bus. Nate twirled her black hair on her fingers, and looked out the window. She quickly looked back, however, when the bus went under a shadowed area. She squeezed her eyes shut. She was absolutely terrified of shadows. Her friend Sophia got on at the next stop, but she wasn't able to sit with Nate. A stranger sat in Nate's seat, and he looked away from her. He was much, much taller than Nate was, as she was only 10, and Nate was a little bit scared of him. He had shockingly blue eyes, and brown, curly hair. Nate looked up at him. "Could you... move over so my friend could sit here, please?" The stranger stared at her, but he obliged and moved to another seat. Sophia sat next to her. "Who was that guy?" She asked. "No idea." Nate responded. The rest of the day seemed uneventful, but in reality, it was more important than anyone could ever imagine. It was so important, in fact, that it would change history forever.
