~+Tord's P.O.V+~
(Note: All dialogue in this chapter is spoken in Norwegian but I wrote in English so you can read it easily)
School. I'd always hated it. This year, I hated it more than usual. Memories flickered through my mind as I loaded my last box of belongings into Mom's car.
"Mom, why did we have to move all the way out here for some school that I didn't even pick? I also barely know any English! And, on top of all that, I'm 18, I'm independent!" I protested after closing the trunk door.
"If you're so independent, then why didn't you move out of the house? As long as you're living in my house, your dad and I are still in control of your life. Besides, this is a very exclusive school, and you should be glad that you could even get in," Mom replied, calmly.
"But I had to leave my girlfriend for this!"
"You'll find a new one," Mom sounded like she couldn't care less. "Just wait in the car with Dad, okay?"
"Fine..." I muttered, getting into the car. Dad turned around to look at me from the front seat.
"Don't forget to change that band-aid. We don't have a very good reputation with this school," Dad said as I ran my hand over a band-aid on my cheek. I patiently waited for Dad to explain.
"So..?" I asked. All I knew was that the only reason I had a band-aid on my cheek was to cover up a birth mark that I had. Everyone in my family had the same birth mark somehow, but just in different places. I had mine on my cheek, my dad has it on his elbow, and since my mom married my dad, she instead had the mark carved into her leg. It honestly sounds a lot more brutal than it actually is.
"That mark gives away our family name and all...." Dad started.
"I know.. but it kind of sucks that I'm stuck with this mark. I don't want to be a criminal like the rest of our family. I want to be an inventor." I sighed.
For a split second, I thought I saw Dad smirk, but I just ignored it. He was a decent criminal, but he wasn't really smart enough to pull off something.
"Alright! we're ready to go!" Mom said as she opened the car door. She started up the car and started driving. "Oh, and Tord, I forgot to tell you that the school has uniforms, so I made sure to pack some in your clothes box."
"Uniforms?! What kind of school is this? Prison?!" I yelled, complaining.
"You'll end up in prison with that attitude!" Dad scolded in response. "Your mom and I paid a lot of money for this school, respect our choices."
"But-"
"Stop complaining, Tord," Mom quickly interrupted. "Be glad that I at least didn't send you to summer school or something."
"Who's idea was it to send me to this school?" I asked, sighing
"Your Mom's."
"Your Dad's" Mom said at the same time Dad blamed her.
"Seriously, who's idea was this?!" I yelled, having a small voice crack in the middle of yelling.
Mom and Dad laughed slightly.
"Sh-Shut up..." I muttered, feeling my face grow hot
My parents just exchanged glances and the car fell silent for quite a while.
********
After a while, a mechanical sounding bark was heard. I grinned
"Ugh... Tord, I thought we said you couldn't bring Striker..." Mom groaned.
"Oh, no, I didn't bring him. He totally snuck in.." I said, sarcastically. When I looked to my left, I saw a small mechanical dog walking over to me, climbing over the boxes that were placed next to me. I gently patted his cold head. He was made out of metal and didn't really have any fur since I didn't really know how to do that yet.
"It's highly recommended that you don't bring pets..." Dad started.
"He's not my pet, he's my friend!" I replied, not caring how cliche it sounded, "And either way, he's my best invention, I couldn't leave him at home with the rest of my miserable failures!"
"I said, it's highly recommended-"
"It's highly recommended. Pets aren't banned," I interrupted Dad before he could start a speech. Again.
I always knew Dad to let me have my freedom a lot of the time, but when he was serious, he'd go into a huge rant or make some huge speech that he didn't need to make.
Mom, on the other hand, was just your average mom. Well, besides the whole being a criminal. She'd make me muffins in the morning every now and then, she would buy me pretty much anything I wanted for my Birthday or Christmas... It was awesome.
But this would be my first year where I wouldn't get any of that. It would just be mail I'd recieve from them.
No more hugs in the morning before I left for school.
No more hot chocolate on Christmas morning.
No more having s'mores cake on my birthday.
I let all of this sink in as we arrived in the town and started to pile all the boxes in the hotel room I'd gotten. It was only temporary since we didn't get our dorms until the first day.
"Goodbye, Mom! Goodbye, Dad!" I called out of my hotel window, waving.
Heyo~ I've had the idea for this book for a while to be honest, and my friend recently dared me to actually write and publish something here, so I decided to make this idea become an actual story.
But either way I consider my writing trash and this probably runs off of a very unoriginal idea, but either way, I hope you enjoy this even though my writing skills are trash <3
