"Mummy I'm so scared". Bella whispered shakily.
"Don't be dear, everything's going to be fine, alright?". Margaret said trying to sound bold for her little girl. She was so close to tears, she had just seen her own darling husband shot and death was the last thing she wanted for her daughter.
"Where is daddy, I want to see daddy now" Bella said startling her mother from her thoughts.
"Sweetheart you need to talk softly okay? " Margaret said then stopped to look around. "Please, your dad is going to be alright, I just need you to stay calm Bella". She hated to lie especially to her daughter. She just wanted all this to be a dream, so she could wake up next to her husband Davis and laugh for hours with him.
"Alright mum" Bella whispered.
"Madam, follow me I'll take you to safety" John, one of the family bodyguards said cupping Margaret's mouth knowing fully well that she was going to scream out of shock.
Margaret recognized John's voice and turned to look at him. She had never been so glad to see anyone. Finally this is someone who can answer my questions, Margaret thought to herself. "Where is Davis?, Where is my husband?, is he alright? and can someone please tell me what's going on?" Margaret said in a rush. "Answer me John! " She said again slightly raising her voice at him.
"Sh, keep your voice down, you don't want to blow our cover, do you?" John whispered.
"I'm sorry John, I'm just worried sick." Margaret said.
"I know, I understand you madam" John said and stopped to take in a long breath. " Madam, Davis, he's." John stopped again not knowing how she would react to his news, the last thing he wanted was for her to break down. She couldn't break down now, he still had a promise to fulfill, he had promised his boss that his wife and little girl would be safe.
"What's wrong John?" Margaret asked, her voice dropping to a whisper. She feared that her thought might just turn into reality.
"It's Davis madam" John paused then continued "I'm afraid he, he, he's gone". John stammered. He also couldn't believe that Davis was dead. Davis was like the family he never had and that was why he made such a promise even though it might cost him his life.
"No, no, no, you're kidding right. Oh, no, John tell me you're joking please." Margaret could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. "It, it, it can't be t-t-t-rue". She stammered. "He loves me and I love him that's all that matters, death can't separate us". It was a nightmare hearing such news about her husband. She saw him shot, she knew he was going to die but she just didn't want it to be true. It's not like she was crying out of shock, she already knew her husband was dead she just couldn't bring herself to believe it.
"Mum, please stop crying, I'll start crying too". Bella said to her mum.
"No, no, I'm not crying sweetie". Margaret said turning to look at her daughter. "There is no need for you to cry okay. "She said staring deeply into her daughter's eyes. She had to be strong for her daughter now. "sweetie, please put your coat on, it's really cold out here". Margaret could hear the quiver in her own voice.
"Let's leave now, I have to get you both out of the house". John said.
"No, we are not leaving without daddy. Where is daddy?". Bella asked looking into her mother's eyes eagerly, expecting an answer.
"Sweetie" Margaret said running her hands nervously through her little seven year olds hair. "Your dad is fine okay? We aren't leaving him. We are going to join him". She paused then smiled at her daughter. "He's waiting outs...." Margaret managed to say before the interruption of the bullets that ran past her ears. Within a twinkle of an eye, John was laying flat in his own little pool of blood and little Bella ran off in fear. Everything happened so fast, she felt like her whole life was crumbling and there was nothing she could do.
"I'm baaack, Margaret, I'm back sweetie".
Margaret knew that voice, it was a very familiar one. This was just the last person she needed to see, she thought he was dead, she saw him shot to death but the figure she saw standing in front of her betrayed what she had always believed. This was Davey, an exact replica of her husband standing right in front of her alive.
"Oh wow, you sure don't look happy to see me Margaret". Davey said walking round with Margaret in the middle. "Now why did you tell the little girl our bad news so soon". He paused. "I mean, you told her you all were going to join her dad soon but couldn't you just wait a little longer, after all I'm the one accompanying you all to hell so let me be the one to break the news". He said then stopped to stare into her eyes waiting for her to talk. "Anyways, I forgive you, now where's that little girl? She was standing right next to you few minutes back isn't it ?". Davey paused waiting for an answer. "Are you so shocked to see me Huh? You aren't even moving". Davey chuckled. "You can't, you can't even speak".He managed to say while laughing. "I mean seriously Margaret".
"Davey" Margaret said in a tone that held so many different emotions. She was shocked to see him because she thought he was dead and even though he wanted her dead she was happy to see her husband's twin again after all he is family. She knew her death was near which made her really sad. She didn't even know where her daughter was at that time and all her concern was for her daughters safety even if it meant putting her own life on the line.
"Wow, you spoke, I'm glad I really am". He said then touched her face."Now do I have to go over the Genesis of our little fight Margaret". Davey said glaring so hard at her as Margaret responded with a shake of her head. "Why? You don't want to hear your bad deeds from someone else's mouth right? I thought as much. Oh Margaret, I loved you so much and we had a plan, a really good one at that but you ditched me. You just had to stab me in the back". Davey said.
"I-I-I-I'm sorry Davey. I really am". Margaret said already in tears. "In my act of pretence I fell in love with him. I couldn't pretend any longer and I just couldn't hurt him". Margaret said.
"Oh, but you could hurt me".
"No, no, it's just that I.... "Margaret tried to say before Davey interrupted her.
"It's just what Huh? If I must then let me remind you, all you had to do was pretend that you loved my brother get him to will everything he possessed to you and then you come back to me, that was all you had to do Margaret". Davey said then took her hand and turned it till it hurt. "Wow, Margaret, your face is in a mess, am I hurting you?".
"Davey, please". Margaret said in between tears. "Please, stop, Davey stop it please you're hurting me" Margaret pleaded as she struggled to wrench herself free.
Margaret fell on her knees and Davey stared stonily at her for a minute then his face wrinkled in a grin. "I'm hurting you and you beg me to stop but when you were hurting me I couldn't even find you to beg you to stop". "Davey said then paused to stare at Margaret. "Can you please stop crying you snivelling little brat, your tears do not draw any sympathy from me".
"I'm sorry Davey". Margaret said in between sobs. "I know everything I've done to you is so bad and I'm really sorry. I just got caught up in this whole pretence thing and I know you consider me a snitch but Davis was going to find out about us sooner or later so I decided to tell him the truth". Margaret said. Her sniffles had died away. "Believe it or not Davey but this past years hasn't been great for me either, every morning when I wake up I feel guilty because of what I did to you. I just wish there was something I could do to make all things right again, Davey". Margaret sobbed. She knew she hurt Davey and she was sad about that. Margaret was in a tumult, she didn't even know what to feel, hearing her own deeds from someone else was a terrible wrench for her. She found all he said deeply wounding.
"Hmm, let me see, something that could make all things right". Davey said, then acting like he was making an attempt to think. "I could think of a way or maybe you could leave earth and just go join your darling husband in hell". Davey said. "You know honey, revenge is a dish best served cold, now where is Bella?". He asked, then pulled a gun out aiming for her head.
Margaret stood up and straightened herself to answer the question. "I-I don't know Davey"
"Sweetheart, you are at the other end of the gun. Don't try to play smart with me and I'll really appreciate it if you do not waste my time". He said. "Now where is that little brat?". He asked again slightly raising his voice at her.
Margaret gulped nervously before answering. "Davey, she, she ran off w-when she heard t-t-the gunshots". She stammered. "It's the truth I swear"
"There's no problem Margaret, I just wanted you to die with your daughter, but if you want to die alone, then goodbye". Davey chuckled aiming at her head.
"Davey, no, no, please, Bella isn't Davis..." She tried to say before the gun went off.
He immediately felt guilty and selfish. He didn't want to kill her but he couldn't also watch her live after what she did to him. She was the only one he loved but she just had to betray him like she never ever loved him. Davey knew what he did was selfish, Margaret had the right to be with anyone of her choice but if he wasn't her choice then he just couldn't bear it. He knew Margaret tried to reason with him but that was what enraged him the more.
Davey had a mix of emotions, he was angry and sad. Revenge was supposed to give him the joy he thought he deserved, why was he even more upset? He wondered. He ran into a trash can nearby knocking it over, in the process dropping and losing his gun in the pile of dirt. ''Fuck'' he panicked, realizing he had lost gun. As soon as the panic came, it left and was replaced with a sudden calmness and confidence. He had killed everyone. The little girl couldn't use a gun.
Bella was so scared, she had just seen her mum shot and yet the man was still laughing. She didn't know what was going on but she was sure she was doing the right thing by hiding.
She saw her mum cry, she stopped her ears but she still heard her cry out. She became worried, she didn't know where her father was and her mum and John had been on the floor for a while now. As a result of her hiding posture she couldn't feel her legs when she tried to stand and the look on her face explained how scared and fed up she was of the drama, one she had no business with. She had just seen a man who delighted in people's suffering and right now she was so scared she just wanted to cry in her mum's arms.
She felt her head spinning, her mum and John wouldn't wake up and she still couldn't find her dad. She knew her mum's murderer was in search of her, he said he wanted her dead. The man had gone far now probably still in search of her. She had to get out of here somehow and she had to do it fast.
Bella ran as fast as her little legs could. Then she bumped into him. Bella's face lit up, finally she had come face to face with her father and then her face fell, her dad was wearing a different cloth and not just a different one but the exact same one her mum's murderer was wearing.
Oh no, Dad killed mum. Bella thought. Davey on the other hand had a large smile fixed on his face, what he had been looking for had come to him with no stress.
"Dad...is it you dad?" she asked. Bella shuddered once her eyes met his. Her father's eyes were full of hate and surprisingly there was a scar running across his face. Bella observed her environment and took in the sight of trash strewn all over the place.
Why didn't it occur to me?, I am an exact replica of her dad. It wouldn't hurt to play daddy just this once. He thought smiling broadly.
He had lost his gun and if he truly wanted the offspring of the two people he loathed, dead, then he would definitely have to start acting right now.
"Yes daughter, it's me". He answered.
Bella stood silent and motionless staring at Davey. All her thoughts revolved around her mother's death. The picture of her dad shooting her mum and John kept on flashing back. Dad hurt mum. She thought. I
