Logan was always a loner. He never cared to meet people meaning his friends were very limited. Very limited. One of his only friends also didn't exactly enjoy the company of people. So they got along well. Meeting people wasn't the only thing Logan couldn't understand how to do. He never exactly u stood feelings. It wasn't that he didn't feel at all. Logan just always payed attention too the logical things. The things that already have a simple explanation. So when he found himself falling in love, things got a bit confusing.
It was winter in Mid December. Logan was in collage studying to be an atronimer. He carried his pile of books in his hands while his bag was basically empty. Virgil stared at him as Logan struggled to take a safe step without tripping over something. "You have a back-pack for a reason, you know that right?" Virgil insisted.
Logan scoffed. "Non-sense! I'm fine. I mean, I have arms for a reason too, don't I?"
"Yeah. Arms are to carry your sandwhich as your bag carries your homework."
Suddenly, Logan felt his foot faulter and his eyes went wide. Virgil stared his eyes just as wide or more, backing up hoping Logan didn't fall on him. Logan felt his body lean back towards the floor, his books flying into the air, out of his arms. Before Logan could process what was happening, he heard a soft "WAAH!" And Logan was on the floor. Except this time his fall was softer than usual.
Logan didn't realized his eyes were shut tight until he opened his eyes and looked up. Logan then realized he'd fallen on someone but couldn't tell who it was. Everything was fuzzy. All he saw were shapes and colors. "Uhh, are you okay?" The figure questioned.
Logan was still shocked from his fall. All he could make out was, "glasses."
Logan could hear someone chuckle and Logan stood up as best he could without seeing. His head hurt and he felt dizzy. You know when you try on someone's glasses that have a perscription you don't need and your head begins to hurt the longer you have them on? That's exactly how it felt for Logan except it's the exact opposite. Logan then felt a nudge on his shoulder and he turned to his right. He saw purple and black colors handing him something. Logan knew this situation well enough to know it was Virgil handing him his glasses.
Logan grabbed his glasses and slipped then onto his head. He turned to Virgil and gave a quick nod. "Thank you."
Logan turned to his left to greet the person he's run into. The person next to him had a bright, bubbly smile and a shirt with a cardigan. Logan had seen the boy around once in a while but had never actually introduced himself. Logan cleared his throat and began dusting himself off before he brought out his hand for a handshake. "Apologies. I hadn't meant to run into you."
The boy stared at Logan's hand for a few seconds before taking it and shaking. Logan couldn't tell, but he could've sworn he was blushing. "I-it's fine. I-I'm Patton."
"Logan."
Another boy came over Patton's shoulder and smirked saying, "Hey, Patton! Isn't that the guy you-" he was cut off with Patton slapping his hand over the others mouth.
Patton gave a wavering smile as he turned as red as a tomato. "Heh. Sorry. This is my friend Roman."
The taller boy waved and mumbled something into Patton's hand. Virgil came up to Logan's side. "Logan, are you going to pick up your books or are we finally gonna ditch 'em?"
Logan perked up. "Of coarse! I'd almost forgotten." Logan crouched down to the floor and began picking up the dozens of thick books.
Virgil sighed and muttered, "so glad I asked." Then began picking up the books with him.
Roman looked at Patton, his hand now off his mouth. Roman's eyes were wide and excited. Help him! Roman mouthed. Patton let out a breath of air he didn't realize he was holding in. Patton grabbed book by book that felt like it'd go on forever. After what felt like eternity, all the books were picked up and after a small lecture from Virgil, Logan finally agreed to put some of his books in his back pack.
They all finally stood up and Logan gave a tiny wave. "Thank you for your assistance." He then turned around and began to walk off with Virgil next to him.
Patton turned to Roman. "Well that was fun. A little awkward. But fun!"
"It's not too late!" Roman jumped.
"What?"
Roman rolled his eyes. "Go ask him on a date! Like coffee or something!"
"Roman, we just met!"
"Fine. Then I'll do it."
"What?!"
Roman ignored him and began walking towards Logan and his friend. Patton began to panic. What was he supposed to do? Before Patton could think of somethimg to stop them, Roman was there smiling at Logan and his friend. Who knew what he would say of Patton wasn't there! Patton ran over to them.
"Patton wanted to know if-" Roman began to say but before he could finish Patton jumped over and cut him off.
"If both of you wanted to come with me and Roman for coffee on Friday."
Logan gave Patton a blank look and looked over at Virgil for help. Virgil shrugged. "Sure. I mean we're not doing anything. Right, Logan?"
Logan put his finger on his chin. "Well actually-" Logan heard a low growl from Virgil and Logan realized he didn't exactly have a choice in the matter. Logan breathed heavily and said, "no. I am doing absolutely nothing on Friday morning."
"Brilliant!" Roman belittled out. He pointed to Virgil and smiled. "Virgil, right?"
Virgil nodded and shook his hand. "And you're that wannabe show off prince everyone talks about."
Roman smiled. "Oh I'll get you for that one."
Virgil chuckled along with Roman as well. Logan took a huff of breath as the bell rang. "Well it can't be now because we're headed to class. See you on Friday!" Logan called as he headed down the corridor. Virgil gave a small wave (which at the same time looked like a finger gun) and whipped around to join Logan.
Patton sighed. "Now that was just awkward."
Roman laughed. "Well I think that was fun."
Patton looked up at Roman. "What if Logan doesn't even show up?!"
Roman shrugged. "I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think that Virgil guy gave him much of a choice."
Patton stared down the hall where both Logan and Virgil were now gone. "Great. Now he's coming unhappily."
Roman hesitated. "I-it'll be fine, Patton. I promise. He'll have a good time and so will you. It's just coffee."
"Your coming, right?"
"Well, of coarse. I mean you invited both of them, correct? It'd be awkward for Virgil if he was alone sitting there watching you two flirt."
Patton could feel his cheeks heat up. "Your the one you said it was just coffee!"
Roman laughed. "Well we should be going. Class started already. Let's go." And with that they were already down the hall, Patton's mind flooded with thoughts about everything that could go good or wrong on Friday morning."
Wednesday passed. After that, Thursday flew by like the wind. Finally, Friday rolled around and Patton felt panicked. "What if he doesn't like any of my jokes? What if he doesn't like coffee? What if he doesn't like mornings?!"
Roman rolled his eyes. "Just don't do anything you wouldn't do. Also, who actually likes mornings?"
"But What if he doesn't like anything I would do?" Patton asked, ignoring Roman's second comment.
"Then he's not the one for you. If he doesn't like anything that makes you, you, don't change just for him. It just messes you up." Roman sighed and stared off into space. "Trust me."
Patton nodded. "Okay. I'm ready. Let's go."
Roman smiled. "Good. Let's go."
They all met at a coffee shop call Cayote Coffee. Patton and Roman picked out a booth in the corner and waited. "I don't think he's coming." Patton said, his foot tapping frantically.
"Pat, please. It's been three minutes."
Just then, two figures came through the door, ringing the bell. Logan and Patton immediately locked eyes and Patton could feel his heart skip a beat. Logan pulled on Virgil's hoodie. Virgil noticed the booth Patton and Roman were sitting in and they both walked over to it. "Great!" Roman said breaking the silence. "So who's going up and ordering?"
Virgil shrugged. "I'm not doing it. I'm socially awkward."
Logan had his hand on his chin and was staring at the menu, scanning the options. Roman cleared his throat and Patton perked up to the noise. "I have an idea." Roman grabbed a napkin and a pen from his pocket and wrote down something and then passed it to Virgil. "Virgil and I will write down what we want on this napkin and you and Logan can go up and get what you want."
Virgil wrote some things down and passed it towards Logan. "Logan grabbed the napkin and stood up. "Come on...Patton?" Logan had said that as more of a question than a statement. Then again, they did only meet a few days ago. Patton stood up and smiled. They both walked over to the counter and scanned the menu.
"There's so many options. I never know what to get," Logan huffed.
Patton giggled. "Yeah. It takes me a while to choose too. But you know what they say..." Logan stared at him questionably. "Bettter latte than never!"
Logan's mouth twitched as if he was trying not to laugh. Just then, a woman with a green tennis hat with superhero pins and an apron with a name tag came up behind the counter. "Hi, are you ready to take your order?" She asked kindly. Logan straightened his back and he nodded. "Um, yes. Apologies."
After they got their order, they sat down at the table while Roman and Virgil were in the middle of a conversation. Patton handed them their coffee and donuts and turned back to Logan. "So...what do you want to talk about?" Logan asked.
Patton stared down at his coffee with the whipped cream and sprinkles. "I'm...not sure. I mean there a latte off topics to talk about."
Logan snickered And Patton's smile grew.
"Here," Logan said smiling and twirling his straw. "I have a question for you." Patton scooted closer and let his chin rest on his hands. Logan gave a small smile. "Do you believe in destiny?"
Patton was hesitant with this question. He knew the exact answer. "Yes."
Logan nodded and turned his attention to his beverage. He gave a small sip and Patton then asked him a question. "Do you?"
Logan set his drink down. "I didn't used to. But now...I'm not entirely sure."
Logan stared into Patton's eyes longingly. Patton's smile grew even wider if that was even possible as both of them turned as red as roses.
I mean I think that's a good place to leave off. 1821 words! Dang. WELP! There will in fact be a second part so STAY TUNED :D
