When you hear what I believe
You try and tear me down
You try and convince me that I am wrong
And that I need to follow you
When you see my image
You try to make fun of the way I look
You try and give me pointers on how to change
And I should listen to you
When you hear my opinion on political views
You call me stupid
You try and convince me you know everything
And I should vote how you want me to
When you see me having fun
You tell me that I am immature
You try and get me to settle down
And I should act my age
When you see that I’m depressed
You tell me to get up and do something
You tell me things will get better
And I should just get happy
When you see me cry
You roll your eyes
You tell me that it’s okay
And that I need to get over it
When you see the scars
You get mad at me
You tell me to stop it
And I see that you are disappointed
When I go out with my friends
You make me feel guilty
You tell me that I shouldn’t hang out with them
And I start to feel alone
When you see that I am me
That I am comfortable with myself
That I have my days of good and bad
And I really won’t change for you…..you’ll see me!
